Dubai is set to become the global hub for media and entertainment innovation as the CABSAT Content Congress returns to the Dubai World Trade Centre from May 13 to 14, 2025. Against the backdrop of a rapidly evolving industry, this two-day conference will bring together global experts, policymakers and innovators to explore how artificial intelligence, personalised streaming, virtual production and cross-border co-productions are transforming the way content is created, distributed and consumed.
As part of the wider CABSAT 2025 event, the Content Congress will serve as a key forum for examining the transformation sweeping across the media and entertainment landscape. With themes centred on digital disruption, new content formats and emerging technologies, the conference promises attendees access to vital insights and strategies to stay ahead of industry trends.
Day one, themed Trends, Technology & Transformation, will open with an exploration of how MENA's media sector is being reshaped by government initiatives and innovation. This includes an in-depth look at the region's Ramadan drama boom, which continues to dominate seasonal viewership. The agenda will also dive into the world of virtual production and cinema, focusing on the use of LED walls, real-time rendering, and AI to streamline and elevate the filmmaking process.
On the second day, Digital Disruption & New Formats takes centre stage. Panels will delve into MENA's burgeoning $38bn connected TV market, dissect the content strategies of major digital players such as TikTok and YouTube, and explore how regional platforms are carving out their space. One of the most anticipated sessions will spotlight the rise of vertical micro-dramas—short-form content of just one to three minutes—which has grown into a $5bn global trend and presents a major opportunity in the Arab world.
Next-generation sports broadcasting will also be a focus, with discussion on how AI, virtual reality and over-the-top (OTT) platforms are revolutionising fan engagement in a sports rights market valued at $6.5bn. Other sessions will tackle the challenges and opportunities in children's programming, highlighting the fact that 80% of MENA's kids' content is currently imported and exploring how local creators can take a leading role. Additional insights will be provided into film commission incentives, including Abu Dhabi's 50% rebate and Dubai's expanding production infrastructure, both of which are helping to position the UAE as a major global production destination.
A lineup of speakers will bring diverse expertise to the stage. Among them are Karim Sarkis from Strategy&, who will address AI's growing role in MENA media; Dan Hu of Tencent Cloud, who will explore the future of streaming; and Anuj Samtani of STEREOVISION, who will present on AI applications in cinematography. Actor and comedian Danish Sait will share insights on brand storytelling in the digital age, while Manoj Abraham Mathew from Dubai Studios will speak on co-productions and regional content distribution strategies.
Following the main sessions, a third day of bonus programming on May 15 will offer an Emerging Tech Showcase, where startups shaping the media industry's future will present their innovations. Workshops will also provide hands-on learning in content creation, monetisation, and digital strategy.

His Highness assured that students will be supported and embraced in the Emirate of Sharjah, close to their families. His Highness shared details about the exciting new program at the Sharjah Performing Arts Academy that focuses on filmmaking. His Highness pointed out that creating this program is quite a challenge. Once it's established, the academy will have three main areas of study: Theatre, Music, and Cinema. His Highness expressed his pride in these initiatives, highlighting how they support the arts and the people who create them. His Highness, "This knowledge is a knowledge that can change many errors, whether in nations or individuals. Thank God, we are proceeding with very calm steps. We do not set foot in a place where there is error, but rather we are correcting this person who will carry the knowledge and who must be upright." His Highness congratulated the graduates on their graduation from the Academy and extended his congratulations to their families on this joyous occasion. Dr. Peter Barlow, the Executive Director of the Sharjah Performing Arts Academy, delivered a speech welcoming His Highness and the attendees at the third graduation ceremony. He praised His Highness for his vision and efforts, which have significantly contributed to the advancement of the Academy. Dr. Barlow also highlighted His Highness's commitment to education, which has enhanced the arts in the Emirate of Sharjah and inspired thousands of its residents. You have developed and flourished in a place that fostered your growth and encouraged excellence." He said, "You have learned and grown in your skills, and now you are about to enter a new world filled with unknowns. This world is not your enemy; rather, it will teach you. You don't have a clear plan to follow, and there are no guarantees. Instead, you face the biggest challenge of all: creating something from nothing. If you succeed, you will experience the true joy of achievement. Be flexible, come up with new ideas, and keep pushing forward. If you think the journey will be easy, this may not be the right path for you. You will encounter difficulties, some of which you cannot control. Don't limit yourselves and don't hold on to resentments. Learn to forgive yourself and others. Stay positive, because a hopeful attitude helps you handle life's challenges better." During the ceremony, artist Zainab Al Askari gave a heartfelt speech as the guest of honor. She expressed her joy and excitement about being part of such a prestigious event that celebrates upcoming artists. The occasion was made even more special by the attendance of His Highness, the President of the Sharjah Academy of Performing Arts. Al Askari highlighted that the Academy has made a long-awaited dream come true for artists who want to develop their skills and share important messages with society. In a time when the world of art faces various challenges, she stressed how vital it is to have such an academy. She also acknowledged the support and care that His Highness offers to artists, helping them grow and shine. Arabian Post Staff -Dubai The University of Dubai and the Artificial Intelligence Journalism for Research and Forecasting have unveiled the Arab AI Researchers initiative, marking the first pan‑Arab programme dedicated to training academics in artificial intelligence for research and teaching. The launch aligns with efforts to implement the Arab Index for Artificial Intelligence in Universities, announced in May 2024, and formalised at the 5th Artificial Intelligence Journalism World Forum in Sharjah earlier this year. President of the University of Dubai, Dr Eesa Al Bastaki, explained that AAIR responds to a growing call for universities in Arab states to embed AI into scholarly work and curricula. He noted that the programme reflects the aim of the AIU, which benchmarks integration across six domains: curriculum design, faculty capabilities, smart laboratory infrastructure, student proficiency, research output, and global partnerships. ADVERTISEMENT Dr Saeed Al Dhaheri, Director of the Centre for Futures Studies and President of the AIU, emphasised the initiative's breadth. 'AAIR offers specialised training to integrate AI across all academic tiers,' he said, underscoring the programme's ambition to reach a wide academic audience across the Arab world. That ambition gains momentum in tandem with AIJRF's global training portfolio of more than 120 courses and over 20 active AI initiatives, which includes the annual AIJWF and the GAIJI index. Under the leadership of AIJRF's CEO Dr Mohamed Abdulzaher, AAIR will offer a free, accredited training programme conducted thrice yearly. Each session will involve four days of intensive instruction—totalising 15 practical hours—for approximately 150 participants. Graduates, upon submission of a project, will receive certification jointly from AIJRF, the University of Dubai and cooperating institutions. Dr Abdulzaher emphasised the programme's dual focus: practical AI tool use in research and instruction that covers emerging pedagogical approaches such as smart classrooms, automated assignments and AI‑generated project frameworks, underpinned by ethical guidelines. Experts highlight the significance of AAIR against a backdrop of evolving demand for localised AI capacity in the region's higher education sector. Gulf News records that the Arab Index for AIU initially pioneered this area by evaluating Arab universities on their strategic integration of AI into humanities and theoretical sciences, spanning institutions from Morocco to Qatar. This quantitative benchmarking now finds practical implementation through AAIR. The initiative affords multiple strategic gains. It aims to develop an Arab‑centred community of practice in AI, offer Arabic‑language curricular resources, and foster collaborations among universities, research centres and technology providers. Policy experts suggest that by nurturing such ecosystems, the region can more accurately reflect its socio‑cultural context in AI tools and methodologies. AAIR also responds to economic and educational drivers. UAE government-backed surveys estimate the Arab educational sector will expand rapidly alongside digital acceleration, yet critical gaps remain in Arabic‑language AI content and smart infrastructure. By empowering faculty and students alike, AAIR seeks to deepen the region's AI talent pool and sustainability. Formative metrics indicate uptake: AIJRF announced an AAIR target of training 500 academics during the first phase, with enrollment details shared via LinkedIn and public briefings. Dr Abdulzaher credits the partnership between University of Dubai, AIJRF, and other institutional collaborators for enabling broad access to the programme. Still, the initiative faces challenges inherent to regional adoption. Previous AI integration efforts highlight logistical barriers—such as uneven access to AI‑equipped labs, variable levels of faculty digital literacy, and limited Arabic AI datasets. AAIR's focus on standardisation and community‑based learning aims to alleviate such bottlenecks. Industry observers are tracking AAIR's impact on research and higher education closely. Stakeholders expect ripple effects, including: greater academic publication in AI‑focused journals; the emergence of Arab‑context AI pedagogies; enhanced employability of STEM graduates with real‑world AI experience; and institutional impetus to invest in smart infrastructure. The AAIR launch also complements AIJWF's wider initiatives, including the Human Talents vs Gen‑AI Challenge introduced at the 5th edition in April at American University of Sharjah. Collectively, these initiatives contribute to a regional strategy to navigate the Fourth and Fifth Industrial Revolutions, with emphasis on generative AI and its socio‑economic consequences.
