'I WAS DISHEARTENED THAT THERE WERE NO CALLS FROM MALAYALAM AFTER ORU VADAKKAN SELFIE'
'Even though Oru Vadakkan Selfie (OVS) was well-received, the response towards my performance was not great. I was disheartened as there were no calls from the Malayalam industry after its release.
I took it personally, and had decided that acting is not meant for me and that my dreams were over,' she says.' Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada (AYM) is the reason I'm here today,' she adds.
'AYM and its Telugu version, Sahasam Swasaga Sagipo were my first Tamil and Telugu films. It was a huge responsibility that Gautham sir was placing on me. I'm forever grateful to Vineeth and Gautham sir for giving me a good start,' the actress states.
'I REALISED WHAT MY PRIORITIES WERE WHEN I DID MORE FILMS'
Stating that she is a 'go-with-the-flow person', Manjima admits the mistakes she made in her career initially were because she 'took the opinion of too many people seriously'. 'When I started doing more films, I realised what my actual priorities were,' she says, adding, 'I enjoyed working in films even as a child artiste. I took a break from cinema to be able to enjoy my childhood.

But, while in college, I realised that no matter what I was trying to do, I would circle back to becoming an actor.'
'NOW, YOU NEED TO REACH OUT TO PEOPLE TO GET PROJECTS'
That wasn't the only time the actress took a break from cinema, as she did it even before her wedding with actor Gautham Karthik, in 2022. But things had changed within the brief period she had stayed away from the limelight. 'When I wanted to start working again, a friend of mine suggested I reach out to people I want to associate with.
While it seemed strange initially, I then realised that everybody was doing this. There is a lot of talent out there, and people don't remember you unless you're a legend. You can be easily forgotten, and it's important to reach out to people. And so, I reached out to a few filmmakers, including Pushkar and Gayatri, who got back to me for Suzhal 2,' says the actress.
'SINCE GAUTHAM IS ALSO AN ACTOR, HE UNDERSTANDS ME'
Manjima says, 'Since Gautham is also an actor, he understands me and my timings.
It's easy to communicate with him about what's going through my head or why I couldn't do a scene. We are normal people at home and rarely discuss cinema.'
'I don't deal with online trolling because I don't know who I'm dealing with'
Speaking about online trolls, Manjima says, 'I don't deal with online trolling because I don't know who I'm dealing with. So, what can I tell them? They might be going through something and are venting it out in the comment section of the first picture they see.
Once you understand that's all it is and it's not personal, you realise that there is nothing to deal with.'

CBFC asks Union Minister Suresh Gopi's JSK - Janaki vs State of Kerala makers to change title over Goddess Sita's name
Industry sources said the release of the Suresh Gopi-starrer Malayalam movie JSK-Janaki vs. State of Kerala has hit a hurdle. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) reportedly denied it screening permission over the name of the title character. The Pravin Narayanan-directed movie, with Union Minister Suresh Gopi and Anupama Parameswaran in lead roles, reportedly revolves around the legal battle of an assaulted woman named Janaki against the state. According to sources, the film was reportedly denied screening clearance, citing that Janaki, an alternative name of Goddess Sita, cannot be used for such a character. Pravin, in a Facebook post, confirmed on Saturday that the Censor Board has denied screening permission for the movie. He said in the post, without elaborating, that there would be no release on 27 June. Meanwhile, noted director B Unnikrishnan, the general secretary of the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA), on Sunday told reporters that the makers of the JSK were clearly informed by the CBFC that the name Janaki cannot be used in the movie. "They have not received any written information in this regard. A show-cause notice is yet to be received. They expect to get it by Monday," he told reporters in Kochi. The CBFC clearly stated to the film's crew that the name Sita cannot be used either in the title or for the character in the movie, Unnikrishnan said. "The story is about the legal fight carried out by an assaulted woman against the state. It is said (by the Board) that Goddess Sita's name cannot be given to the woman character who suffered assault," he said. Another filmmaker faced similar issue He said another Malayalam filmmaker recently faced a similar issue over the name of a character called Janaki in his movie, and he was forced to change it to Jayanthi to get Censor Board certification. Terming the Board's action as "strange", the FEFKA secretary asked where the country is heading. He said filmmakers are even denied the freedom to give the characters in their films the names of their choice. The director also said that in this circumstance, it would be tough to choose a name for characters belonging to the Hindu religion, as the majority of them would be epithets of Gods or Goddesses. Union Minister Suresh Gopi and the makers of the film were immediately not available for a comment.

Director Basil Joseph dismisses rumours of Allu Arjun replacing Ranveer Singh as Shaktimaan in film reboot: ‘Whoever is spreading these…'
For late millennials and early Gen Zers, the Hindi superhero television series Shaktimaan is not just a fond memory but a defining part of their childhood. So, when reports emerged that a film adaptation of Shaktimaan was in the works, the child in every now-adult fan was ecstatic. However, since then, the project has mostly made headlines for the wrong reasons, particularly due to heavy-handed statements from the TV show's creator Mukesh Khanna. Although rumours have been rife that Minnal Murali director and Malayalam actor Basil Joseph would helm the project, with Bollywood star Ranveer Singh in the titular role, Mukesh Khanna has firmly denied the latter part time and again, stating that Ranveer 'doesn't have the correct face' for the character. Recently, another rumour surfaced suggesting that Telugu superstar Allu Arjun had replaced Ranveer Singh in the upcoming film reboot. Interestingly, Mukesh had once acknowledged that Arjun 'has it in him to be Shaktimaan'. While Arjun's fans were thrilled by the speculation, Basil Joseph has categorically denied the reports, reiterating that Ranveer Singh remains the only choice for the character. 'Shaktimaan will be made only with Ranveer Singh,' senior film journalist Subhash K Jha quoted Basil as saying. A source close to the project echoed this sentiment and told Jha, 'No one else is doing Shaktimaan. It is Ranveer Singh and no one else. Whoever is spreading rumours of his replacement clearly has their own agenda.' Now, it needs to be seen what Mukesh Khanna's response to this would be, particularly since he has repeatedly asserted that Ranveer Singh is not suited for the role. 'People know that Ranveer Singh came to convince me for allowing him to reprise the role of Shaktiman. I can't hide it also because later people said that I lauded Ranveer and called him a terrific actor. News of Ranveer being confirmed to play Shaktiman started coming but I hadn't agreed to it. I also have a conflict with Sony and I had put up a video clarifying that I haven't approved Ranveer to play the role and the reason is that…Ranveer sat in front of me that day for 3 hours but ultimately I had to tell him that what needs to be seen on his face wasn't there. He looks playful, like someone who would trick others,' he told Bollywood Thikana in September last year. However, his repeated comments sparked controversy, prompting Mukesh to clarify that he meant no disrespect towards Ranveer. At a press conference, when asked whether he made Ranveer wait at his office for hours, the Shaktimaan actor responded, 'No. I didn't force him to wait. He sat for three hours because he wanted to. He came to my office, we enjoyed each other's company. He's a terrific actor, he has terrific energy. But I decide who plays Shaktimaan. Producers cast actors, an actor can't cast a producer. You come to my office and say that you want to be Shaktimaan, it's not allowed!'
