Gerik crash: Cops record statement of teacher over offensive remarks

IPOH: Police have recorded the statement of a male teacher who allegedly posted offensive remarks on social media related to the fatal crash involving 15 Universiti Perguruan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students in Gerik on June 9.
Manjung police chief ACP Hasbullah Abd Rahman said the teacher came to the Manjung district police headquarters at 10am to provide his statement, which lasted about three hours.
"We will refer the case to the deputy public prosecutor after the investigation paper is completed," he told Bernama when contacted today.
The case is classified under Section 504 of the Penal Code, which deals with intentional insult with an intent to provoke a breach of peace, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities or network services.
Hasbullah was reported as saying that police received a report on June 11 regarding the post, which was made from a Facebook account under the name 'Khalid Yunus.'
On June 9, 15 UPSI students who were travelling in a bus were killed in an accident along the East-West Highway (Jalan Raya Timur Barat) near Tasik Banding.

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are tracking down two parang-wielding men involved in an attempted robbery at a shop in Hulu Selangor. The suspects, who were caught on video dressed in black, wearing caps and face masks, were seen attempting to attack a local man at the back of the premises. Acting Hulu Selangor district police chief Deputy Superintendent Mohd Asri Mohd Yunus said the victim lodged a police report on Wednesday at 6.42am. "Investigations revealed that the incident took place at a premises in Ulu Yam Baru. "While the victim was inside the shop, two people entered through the back door and attempted to attack the victim with parang. "It is believed that the suspects are local men," he said in a statement. During the incident, the victim screamed for help, causing the suspects to panic and flee the scene, he said. He said they did not manage to steal any of the victim's belongings. The case is being investigated under section 393 of the Penal Code. The offence carries a maximum penalty of seven years' jail and a fine.
