Hyundai to announce $20 billion US investment
Hyundai is making a major investment in the U.S. to the tune of $20 billion.

Imagine your favorite whatever in a colorful new box that screams 'Now With X Percent More!' While we couldn't get an exact percentage out of Hyundai, that sums up the new 2026 Palisade SUV , revealed at the 2025 New York Auto Show: More space, more efficiency, more off-road ability, more luxury. It's inflation, but for once it's on the side of the consumer.
More room, more prestige
Can we call the 2026 Hyundai Palisade an all-new SUV? It rides an updated version of the current-gen Palisade's platform, but the wheelbase has been stretched 2.7 inches while overall length is up 2.5 inches. It's a smidge taller (0.6 inch) and a third of a smidge wider (0.2 inch). The front overhang has been reduced by 1.6 in, which means the proportions have been shifted slightly rearward.
If the new Palisade looks vaguely familiar, check out a picture of the current Range Rover. Viewed from the back, the bulge of the rear fender is distinctly Range Rover–esque, and Hyundai certainly wouldn't be the first manufacturer to mimic the uninterrupted window line from A- to D-pillar.
Of course, the vertical theme of the front end is a familiar Palisade cue, and Hyundai has delivered a nifty new interpretation: A stack of illuminated rectangles that form the daytime running lights. When the lights are off, the panels show painted silver, a very cool effect. The XRT Pro model we saw, more on which in a moment, uses a smoked lens, and it doesn't look anywhere near as nifty.
Will the Palisade be good for families?
Inside, Hyundai has gone to great lengths to up the posh factor. Our hands-on preview included the top-of-the-line Calligraphy model as well as the off-road-tuned XRT Pro, and while the lovely leather under our legs won't appear in all Palisade models, the soft, rounded shapes throughout the interior will.

Kevin Kang, head of Hyundai's interior design department, told us the idea was to create a relaxing oasis for harried parents. The first thing we noticed as we clambered behind the wheel was the dearth of 90-degree angles. Kang pointed out the softly padded driver's armrest serves as a handle for its entire length, making it easy for any size driver, tall or short, to close the door.
Front-seaters face a beam-style dash with a brow that shades the digital instrument panel and center screen, both of which are 12.3-inch displays. As with the Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric SUV, the center console is separated from the dashboard, leaving space to store a bulky purse or backpack within the driver's reach.
Kang went out of his way to point out the curved top of the armrest between the front seats, as well. Hyundai didn't want a center console that looked like a picnic cooler, and many hours were devoted to getting that arc just right. Job well done, folks — it's not often we note how nice a front-seat console looks from the back seat, but in the Palisade, we actually did.
The second-row seats are as roomy as we expected, but one of our chief complaints about the outgoing Palisade was limited space in the third row. Hyundai's made a notable improvement here; this 5-foot, six-inch well-fed correspondent was able to sit in the third row in a reasonable amount of comfort, surrounded by USB ports, cupholders and ceiling-mounted air vents.
It helps that both the second and third rows motor back and forth, or at least they did in the Calligraphy model, although the motorized easy-exit feature took forever to move the second row out of our way. As with the outgoing Palisade, deploying the third-row seats leaves adequate cargo space for some gym bags or grocery sacks.
What MPG does the Palisade hybrid get?
The big news under the 2026 Palisade's hood is a new hybrid powertrain, which pairs a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a pair of electric motors mounted inside the six-speed automatic transmission. We await final numbers, but Hyundai's preliminary estimate is 329 horsepower — 262 from the engine and 67 from the motors — and 339 lb-ft of torque. It's too early for fuel-economy figures, but Hyundai is hoping the Palisade hybrid will exceed 30 mpg on the highway, giving it a 620-mile range.

There will also be a V-6 option, and this is perhaps the one element of the Palisade that shrank: The 3.8-liter engine has been replaced by a newly developed 3.5 producing 287 hp and 260 lb-ft, down 5 hp and 2 lb-ft and driving an eight-speed automatic transmission. V-6 Palisades will tow up to 5,000 pounds, while the hybrid version will tow 4,000. Both powertrains will be offered with front- or all-wheel-drive.
Can the new Hyundai Palisade go off-road?
The outgoing Palisade offers an XRT trim level, which is an off-road appearance package; for 2026, that model will morph into the XRT Pro, which adds real usable functionality.
The XRT Pro styling cues really do make it look like a rugged machine, and functional upgrades include an extra inch of ground clearance, improved approach, breakover and departure angles, an electronic limited-slip differential for the rear axle, 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, extra terrain modes for the all-wheel-drive system, and hill descent control.
The bright orange tow hooks are solid metal and designed to be functional. They're even surrounded by rubber, so moving straps won't damage the plastic bumper.
As you'd expect, there's plenty of tech to go around in all Palisade models, including standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 15-watt wireless charging pad with an integrated cooling fan, and an optional 14-speaker Bose stereo. A two-camera security system automatically activates for a variety of events ranging from panic stops to bumps and jars when the Palisade is parked. Recorded events can be played back on the center screen or retrieved from the system's (included) MicroSD card.
Most cars give you a reminder to check the back seat when you shut the car off, but those tend to fade into the background just like seatbelt reminder chimes. Should you happen to leave kids or pets behind in the Palisade, it can detect movement in the back seat and will honk the horn and send an alert to the Bluelink app on the owner's phone.
Speaking of Bluelink, the Palisade has a digital key function allowing it to be unlocked and started with a phone or smartwatch. Access can be shared with others, so you can loan out your Palisade without giving up your keys. Owners can even pay for parking or fuel using the no-touch Hyundai Pay app.
When will the new Hyundai Palisade go on sale?
Pricing for the 2026 Hyundai Palisade will be announced closer to launch and, with all those tariffs flying around, is likely to be a moving target. The 2025 Palisade starts at $37,200, with base prices rising as high as $54,500 for the all-wheel-drive Calligraphy Knight Edition, and we'd expect a bump in those prices. The V-6-powered 2026 Hyundai Palisade is scheduled to arrive at Hyundai dealers in the summer of 2025, with hybrids to follow in the fall.

Hyundai establishes directly-owned distributor in Malaysia
Hyundai Motor Company announced that it has established a new subsidiary in Malaysia, giving the South Korean brand a direct presence in South-east Asia's second-largest market. The new company, Hyundai Motor Malaysia (HMM) – headquartered in Kuala Lumpur, will effectively take over as Hyundai's distributor in the country from local conglomerate Sime Darby, while continuing to use the company's dealer network. Sime Darby's automotive division, Sime Darby Motors, has vehicle distribution and dealer operations across the Asia-Pacific region, for brands such as BMW, Mini, Rolls-Royce, Ford, Land Rover, Porsche, Suzuki and Mitsubishi. It also has a majority-owned contract assembler, Inokom Corporation, located in Malaysia's Kedah State. Hyundai confirmed that the new company will assume full responsibility in Malaysia for the brand's 'marketing, sales and customer experience, with a dedicated local team empowered to make faster, market-relevant decisions and deliver a more connected, customer-first approach. This is underpinned by deeper market commitment, enhanced customer engagement and a renewed focus on innovation and long-term growth.' HMM will allow Hyundai to 'actively expand its dedicated Malaysian team, laying the foundation for a robust nationwide dealer network.' The new company is expected to employ around 100 people by the end of the year. Jeffrey Gan, managing director of Sime Darby Motors, said in a statement: "We are proud to have played a pivotal role in Hyundai's growth in Malaysia. As Hyundai embarks on its next phase, we remain committed to supporting its sales and aftersales operations, ensuring continuity, confidence, and a seamless service experience for existing and future Hyundai customers.' Hyundai's vehicles are currently assembled locally by Inokom, at its facility in Kedah State. The South Korean automaker is currently building a new MYR 2.2 billion (US$ 520 million) vehicle production plant in Kedah in collaboration with Inokom, which is expected to become operational in the third quarter of 2025. Hyundai confirmed that it plans to launch three new SUV and MPV models in Malaysia in the near future. Hyundai debuts Class 8 hydrogen refueling hub vision

Hyundai Motor Group plans to open a Class 8 hydrogen production and dispensing facility, located 10 miles from the Port of Savannah, Georgia, the company announced in a press release. The more than $30 million refueling station — dubbed HTWO Energy Savannah — is expected to generate 1,200 kilograms of hydrogen per day to support zero-emission, heavy-duty trucking operations in the region. The initial phase of the company's plans is set to begin operations in late fall. Phase two will establish a dual-energy facility with the added capability of commercial electric vehicle charging. HTWO Energy Savannah will serve Hyundai's new $12.6 billion metaplant, an electric and hybrid vehicle production and battery manufacturing facility in Ellabell, Georgia, roughly 20 miles from Savannah. The company will utilize Xcient hydrogen-powered trucks to service the metaplant. In March, Hyundai partner Benore Logistics announced that 10 Xcient trucks hit the road in Savannah, offering an all-electric range of nearly 250 miles. Jim Park, SVP of commercial vehicle and hydrogen fuel cell business for Hyundai Motor North America, called the production and refueling station a 'breakthrough' for the heavy-duty trucking industry. 'The HTWO Energy Savannah hydrogen station will also truly fulfill our vision for HMGMA Clean Logistics, allowing our innovative new electric vehicle plant to transport plant shipments within a clean, zero-emissions ecosystem,' he said in the release. While Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America will initially produce 300,000 vehicles annually, it is expected to build up to 500,000 EVs and hybrids for Hyundai, Kia and Genesis brands. Likewise, HTWO Energy Savannah also has the infrastructure needed to scale. If demand increases in the future, the site can support up to 4,200 kilograms of hydrogen per day, including the accommodation of a variety of passenger and delivery vehicles. 'Hyundai views this model as a benchmark example for the future and has a vision for various potential applications in the U.S., including other Hyundai plants and operations,' the company said in an email to Trucking Dive. Additionally, the company's hydrogen team said a key lesson in this trucking deployment is the importance of affordable hydrogen. 'Utilizing modular SMR units allows us to match supply and demand, which yields affordable hydrogen prices to consumers and helps drive growth in the overall hydrogen economy,' the company said in the email. After years of supply chain shortages, buyers now have more negotiating power and choices in selecting a new set of wheels. While CarEdge reports that many Toyota and Lexus models are selling quickly, other makes and models are remaining on lots much longer, creating an opportunity for buyers. This list features vehicles that have garnered positive reviews from automotive critics but are currently offering attractive sales and lease specials. Many of these vehicles are either in their final model year or have been in their current iteration for several years. To generate this list, we consulted publications like Consumer Reports, Edmunds, and Car and Driver for reviews, vehicle specifications, and the latest incentives. We also leveraged automotive manufacturer websites for additional information. Please note that incentives come with conditions and an expiration date for the promotion, so check before purchasing your new car. A Car and Driver Editors' Choice winner, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 EV has an aerodynamic design that enables an impressive all-electric range, making it a great choice for those who need to take longer trips between charges. However, PR Newswire reports that the Ioniq 6 is outsold by its Ioniq 5 crossover sibling by a ratio of 2.5 to 1. This, coupled with the market's shift away from sedans, has led to attractive discounts on the Ioniq 6. For March, Hyundai is offering a lease for $169 per month for 24 months, with $3,999 due at signing on the Standard Range SE model (EPA-estimated 240-mile range), and $199 per month for the Long Range SE (EPA-estimated 342-mile range). Edmunds reports a $7,500 customer bonus cash deal through April 1st. Before incentives, the MSRP on the Ioniq 6 ranges from $38,900 to $55,650. BMW offers a range of impressive EVs, but its most affordable option, the i4, is an electric version of the BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe. According to Car and Driver, the i4 delivers driving dynamics that honor the brand's legendary gas-powered sports sedans. Adding to its appeal, the i4 features a liftback, which enhances cargo-carrying practicality compared to a traditional sedan. A 2025 mid-cycle refresh updates the front and rear styling and adds a few enhancements and trim options to the interior. Given the 2025 changes, you might be able to secure a deal on leftover 2024 models. However, even with the refresh, Consumer Reports has observed an average discount of 7% off the MSRP of the 2025 i4. With a pre-incentive MSRP ranging from $52,800 to $70,700, buyers could save approximately $3,700 to $5,000 on a new i4. Subaru was ahead of the crossover curve with its Outback and Forester and has continued to lean into market demand with the Crosstrek and Ascent. Unfortunately, Subaru announced that its oldest nameplate, the Legacy, will not continue beyond 2025. The midsize Legacy sedan comes with standard all-wheel drive (AWD), offers decent fuel economy, and starts at approximately $26,000 for the base model with the 182 horsepower engine. For those seeking more power, the Legacy provides a turbocharged option that produces 260 hp. According to Consumer Reports, the average savings from the MSRP is $1,541. The Mercedes CLA is a 4-door coupe version of the A-Class sedan, which is no longer sold on our shores. Boasting stunning looks, it's the cheapest model in the three-pointed star lineup. However, Car and Driver reports the well-equipped base trim includes a 10.3-inch infotainment screen, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, automatic emergency braking, a 360-degree camera, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and more. Consumer Reports found a recent average transaction savings of 10% or $4,509 off the MSRP of the CLA. Not only do you get a deal on Mercedes' most affordable vehicle, but you still get the Mercedes dealer experience. Even better, you acquire a vehicle that's different from what everyone else is driving. Before discounts, the CLA's MSRP ranges from $44,400 to $67,050. While its pseudo-replacement, the all-electric ES90, is capturing headlines this month, the internal combustion engines (ICE) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV)-powered Volvo S90 luxury sedan continues to soldier on. Despite being in its ninth model year, the S90's interior and exterior styling are aging gracefully. For buyers interested in PHEVs, the S90 PHEV boasts an EPA-estimated electric range of 38 miles. With 455 hp, this large sedan accelerates to 60 MPH in just 4.6 seconds. Edmunds reports $3,000 in customer cash deals on the S90 through April 1st for qualifying purchases. Before incentives, the MSRP for the S90 ranges from $58,300 to $71,200. Sized similarly to the i4, the A5 Sportback is a four-door hatchback in its final model year before a redesign. According to Car and Driver, the A5 Sportback's standard features include leather seats, three-zone climate control, and a panoramic sunroof. With a large cargo hold and Quattro all-wheel drive, the A5 could be considered a worthy alternative to an SUV for individuals seeking a blend of performance and practicality. Edmunds reports customer cash offers of $3,000 on the Audi A5. The A5's MSRP ranges from $48,840 to $56,950 before discounts. Volkswagen's compact Tiguan SUV is nearing the end of its model cycle, and 2024 models are still available as Volkswagen prepares to launch the third-generation Tiguan this year. Car and Driver highlights the Tiguan's generous second-row seating, spacious interior, and European handling as appealing features of the crossover. Standard heated seats, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Blind Spot Monitor w/ Rear Traffic Alert, and Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking (Front Assist) further sweeten the deal. Edmunds reports a $2,500 customer bonus cash deal available through May 1st. Pricing ranges from $28,880 to $38,880 before promotions. Larger than the compact Escape but smaller than the three-row Explorer, the Edge is a spacious two-row SUV with a roomy cargo area. Consumer Reports praised its handling and braking capabilities, as well as its quiet interior. Although 2024 marked the final model year for the Edge, it is still available for sale. Edmunds reports that Ford is offering up to $5,000 in customer cash on qualifying purchase and lease agreements. The Edge's pre-incentive MSRP ranges from $38,365 to $47,205. Kia's striking EV6 might get more attention, but the brand's entry-level Niro EV is an enticing value. Although Car and Driver reports it charges more slowly than the EV6, the Niro has a 253-mile range, accelerates to 60 mph in 6.7 seconds, and provides 23 cubic feet of cargo space. The well-equipped base "Wind" trim level comes standard with forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking, lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control with a lane-centering feature. According to Edmunds, Kia is offering a $7,500 customer cash deal on Niro EVs, which means an opportunity to get behind the wheel of a brand-new EV for under $35,000. Now in its eighth model year, many competitors of the Volkswagen Atlas have been redesigned more recently. While other three-row midsize SUVs may sport newer designs, not all offer the Atlas's spacious cabin. Car and Driver commends the Atlas for its genuinely functional third-row seat, and choosing the optional second-row captain's chairs still provides six usable seats. While it may lack the styling of the Kia Telluride or the fuel economy of a Toyota Highlander Hybrid, the Atlas is an attractive value for the money. Additionally, it can tow up to 5,000 pounds. Furthermore, Edmunds has discovered $2,500 in customer bonus cash deals for eligible purchases and leases. The Atlas is priced from $39,625 to $54,630 before incentives. Although Audi's best-selling model, 2025 marks the final year of this iteration of the Q5, and the brand is offering generous incentives to move the outgoing model before the third generation arrives. Car and Driver notes distinctive styling, build quality, and standard tech features as highlights of Audi's compact luxury crossover SUV. With Edmunds reporting a $4,000 customer cash incentive offer on Q5s through April 1st, this well-rounded model just became more approachable. Prior to discounts, the Q5's MSRP ranges from $45,400 to $66,700. With rising car prices, being in the market for a new vehicle can be frustrating. Fortunately, there are many practical, fun, high-performing vehicles that can still be acquired at a discount. Depending on availability, these incentives may be extended into April or later. As always, be sure to read the fine print. Some of these customer bonus cash deals can be combined with other promotions, such as owner loyalty offers, for additional discounts.
