ESPN: Cowboys-Bears tilt named one of NFL's 9 key schedule features
The Dallas Cowboys have one of the league's most difficult schedules in 2025; at least based off of 2024 results. With a strength of schedule of .557, Dallas has the fifth-toughest slate. But it's not their Thanksgiving matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs that drew the attention of Benjamin Solak, nor the two matchups against Super Bowl champion Philadelphia.
Rather, it was their Week 3 tilt against the Chicago Bears that was identified as one of nine key schedule features among Solak's 100 Things to Know countdown to the regular season.
Another good Bears game comes against the Cowboys in Week 3. Former Chicago head coach Matt Eberflus is the new Cowboys defensive coordinator, and expunged coaches often produce strong performances when revenge is on the table.
The Cowboys hired Eberflus, their former linebacker coach, after he was fired from the Bears midseason 2024. Their former linebacker coach went to Indianapolis for several years as their defensive coordinator before taking the lead chair in the Windy City.
Eberflus, 55, had a 14-32 career record with the Bears, who struggled at the QB position before drafting Caleb Williams No. 1 overall in 2024. Now Williams will have a chance to prove his comments about why he never wanted to be drafted by the Bears and Eberflus will look to take his inside intel and use it to his new team's advantage.

Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton has torn right Achilles: Report
Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton tore his right Achilles in Sunday's Game 7, ESPN's Shams Charania confirmed on Monday. The 25-year-old Haliburton sustained the injury in the first quarter of Game 7 of the NBA Finals vs. the Oklahoma City Thunder. Haliburton — who was playing through a calf injury — fell to the floor after trying to push off his right leg and drive to the basket. He pounded his hand on the ground and yelled in pain while on the floor. The Pacers' star was unable to put any weight on his injured leg as he was being helped off the court. Advertisement Haliburton was out to a strong start in the contest, hitting three shots from beyond the arc before sustaining the injury. Haliburton's nine points kept Indiana in the contest. It was 16-16 when he left the game. The Pacers went on to lose the contest 103-91. It was the same leg in which Haliburton sustained a calf injury during Game 5 of the NBA Finals. Haliburton played through the injury in Game 5, but went 0-for-6 from the field, finishing with zero points in the Pacers' loss. He underwent an MRI following the contest. While the injury was supposed to keep Haliburton sidelined for weeks, he vowed to continue playing in the Finals. Haliburton was available for Game 6 and had no minutes restriction for the contest. He played 22 minutes in the game, finishing with 14 points and leading the Pacers to a 108-91 win to force Game 7. He lasted just over seven minutes into Game 7 before the injury. The Pacers quickly ruled Haliburton out for the rest of the game due to a right "lower-leg injury." Later in the contest, Haliburton's father, John, told ESPN his son was dealing with an Achilles injury. Advertisement The Pacers initially seemed unfazed by the injury, and managed to hold a one-point lead at halftime. But the Thunder's defense got its act together in the third quarter, taking advantage of Pacers turnovers to outscore Indiana by 14 points in the frame. That third-quarter outburst by Oklahoma City essentially put the game out of reach for the Pacers. The injury puts a damper on the Pacers' future. While Haliburton showed promise early in his career with the Sacramento Kings, he blossomed into a superstar with the Pacers. In four seasons with the team, he averaged 19.5 points and 10.1 assists. Advertisement Haliburton was arguably playing the best basketball of his career prior to the calf injury. He hit multiple game-tying or game-winning shots in the final seconds of games to keep the Pacers' hopes alive during the postseason. He team would not have advanced as far as it had without Haliburton's heroics. With Haliburton expected to miss some time next season, it will fall on Pascal Siakum and Bennedict Mathurin to keep the team afloat until Haliburton can return. Despite Haliburton's injury, the Pacers still have the sixth-best odds to win the NBA championship next season.

Notre Dame alum Ian Book awaits next chance at the NFL
The former Fighting Irish QB was last with the Philadelphia Eagles. Former Notre Dame quarterback Ian Book remains unsigned for 2025 -- and he's still looking for work. Book was a backup on last year's Super Bowl-winning Philadelphia Eagles squad. Book is back in South Bend and he's been training every day on the Notre Dame campus, keeping himself in shape for any prospective NFL team. He's the winningest quarterback in Fighting Irish history, going 30-5 as a starter. 'I'm a free agent right now,' Book told the South Bend Tribune on Sunday while attending the Golic SubPar Golf Classic fundraiser at Warren Golf Course. 'I'm just waiting for a call. I'm training here at Notre Dame, using the facilities, throwing with the guys.' The 27-year-old has played in just one NFL game. He was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the fourth round in 2021, and he completed 12-of-20 passes for 135 and two interceptions in a game against the Miami Dolphins during his rookie season. Book started in an emergency on Dec. 27. He was sacked eight times in that game. Book has also been with the Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots, in addition to two stints with the Eagles. In addition to attempting to return to football, Book is in involved in a business venture with former Notre Dame offensive linemen Josh Lugg, Tommy Kraemer, Cole Mabry, and Luke Eichenberg. Former Notre Dame lacrosse player Jake Taylor is also involved. Still, Book has a desire to get back to the NFL. 'Hell, yeah,' he said. 'Oh, it's there. I'll give it everything I got this year. Falcons miss out on Pro Bowl cornerback in PFF's 2013 NFL redraft
Pro Football Focus' 2013 NFL redraft has Falcons take different path in Round 1 Back in 2013, the Atlanta Falcons used their first- and second-round picks to add two key members to the secondary. The team drafted cornerback Desmond Trufant in the first round, then landed defensive back Robert Alford in Round 2. While neither player is headed for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, both played key roles during the team's run to the Super Bowl. Trufant made his only Pro Bowl appearance with the Falcons in 2015, while Alford started 76 games during his six seasons in Atlanta. What would have happened if the Falcons went in a different direction during the 2013 NFL draft? Pro Football Focus released a 2013 redraft that has Atlanta missing out on Trufant and taking offensive lineman Justin Pugh. Pugh notched 70.0-plus PFF overall grades in each of his first four NFL seasons, all with the Giants. His career also included a three-year stretch in Arizona (2019 to 2021) during which he earned strong 70.0-plus PFF pass-blocking grades. -- PFF's Max Chadwick, Dalton Wasserman and Trevor Sikkema The Falcons would likely have been okay with landing Pugh, even if the 11-year NFL veteran never made a Pro Bowl during his playing career. However, you could argue the team needed defensive help more than an offensive lineman at that time, and it's impossible to know whether or not the Falcons would have still made the Super Bowl with Pugh. Trufant, who spent his first seven seasons in Atlanta, finished his career with 14 interceptions, 89 passes defended, seven fumbles recovered and six sacks. The Falcons did not bring back Trufant following the 2019 season. He went on to sign with the Detroit Lions in 2020. After his lone season in Detroit, Trufant spent his final year in the NFL playing for the New Orleans Saints and Las Vegas Raiders.
