Confluent, Inc. (NASDAQ:CFLT), the data streaming pioneer, today released findings from its fourth annual Data Streaming Report, which surveyed 4,175 IT leaders across 12 countries, including the UAE. The results make it clear that data streaming platforms (DSPs) are no longer optional, they are critical to AI success and broader business transformation. Looking specifically at respondents from the EMEA region, a majority of IT leaders (86%) plan to increase investments in DSPs in 2025.
'From powering agentic AI to enabling real-time fraud detection, data streaming platforms are quickly becoming the fuel for modern enterprises,' said Rey Perez, Chief Customer Officer at Confluent. 'They are uniquely positioned to address today's most pressing data challenges while enabling innovations that drive businesses into the future.'
Across the EMEA region, organisations are embracing AI-powered capabilities at an accelerating pace. Over half (52%) of IT leaders surveyed say they have already established the use of chatbots, copilots, and AI assistants in their operations. AI-enhanced security tools are also gaining traction, with 34% reporting active deployment, alongside 33% who are using AI to improve IT operations.
'In the Middle East, we're seeing a shift from AI experimentation to AI at scale,' said Fred Crehan, Area Vice President Growth Markets at Confluent. 'Governments and private enterprises alike are racing to adopt intelligent systems—but AI without timely, trustworthy data will always fall short. Data streaming platforms are filling this gap, making AI adoption not only faster but significantly more effective.'
Why it matters for AI
Behind the scenes of the region's AI initiatives, one key enabler stands out: real-time, reliable access to high-quality data. In fact, nearly three out of four (73%) of EMEA respondents say data streaming technology is one of the most important enablers of their ability to harness enterprise data for AI. A further 85% agree that DSPs will become increasingly vital in feeding AI systems with real-time, contextual, and trustworthy data—a requirement that is essential for everything from fraud detection and automation to personalized customer experiences.
This strong foundational value is translating into real business results. The majority of respondents report that DSP adoption has had positive impact, either direct or indirect, across several key metrics: 89% say data streaming has enhanced product and service innovation, 83% report reduced business costs and risks, and 83% say it has directly contributed to increased revenue or growth. Time to market is also improving, with 80% citing measurable acceleration.
As a result, 86% of EMEA organisations say they will increase their investment in data streaming platforms in 2025, reflecting growing confidence in both the technology and the business outcomes it delivers. When asked to quantify return on investment, 42% of EMEA organisations report achieving 5x ROI or more, while 37% say they have already doubled their investment. Impressively, 7% report seeing tenfold returns.

Commodities strengthen into midyear as demand for hard assets heat up – Saxo Bank MENA - Middle East Business News and Information

Ole Hansen, Head of Commodity Strategy, Saxo Bank The commodities sector is closing in on a strong first half of 2025, with the Bloomberg Commodity Total Return Index rising 3% over the past week and up 10% year-to-date—marking its highest level since September 2022. This rally significantly outpaces other US dollar-denominated assets, with both equities and bonds lagging behind. Unlike typical commodity bull runs driven by economic expansion, the current upswing is being fueled by safe-haven demand, geopolitical tension, and renewed investor appetite for hard assets amid macro uncertainty. Broad gains despite macro headwinds The double-digit year-to-date return on the index, which comprises 24 major futures markets, split almost evenly between energy, metals, and agriculture, excluding platinum, the current star performer on 40%, has, as mentioned, been achieved despite heightened economic growth concerns, especially in the US and China, the world's top consumers of raw materials. In the chaotic days that followed Trump's 'Liberation Day' tariff attack on major trading partners, the index suffered a top-to-bottom drawdown of 9% before embarking on a recovery that now has led to a fresh high being reached, and in the last week supported by gains across all three sectors, led by crude oil, fuel products, gold, silver, soybeans, and wheat. Note: besides platinum, the star performer, the bottom three are not included in the BCOM TR Index. In comparison, the S&P 500 trades up by less than 2% and the Nasdaq by around 3% after suffering significant February to April drawdowns of 19% and 23%, respectively. Highlighting the reasons why a diversified approach to commodity trading and investment reduces the overall volatility, making it easier from a risk management perspective to maintain an exposure through peaks and troughs. Precious metal: Safe-haven star performers Precious metals are leading the charge, with platinum, gold, and silver at the top of the performance table. Silver recently broke above USD 37 per ounce, its highest level in 13 years, while platinum is up more than 40% year-to-date after breaking a 17-year downtrend last month. Gold, which back in April hit a record high at USD 3,500, has moved into a consolidation phase while awaiting the next potential bullish trigger. Despite the current lull, bullion continues to attract strong demand from central banks and long-term investors concerned about sovereign debt, inflation risks, and the weakening US dollar. Despite silver's recent period of strength, the gold-silver ratio remains elevated near 91, well above its 5-year average closer to 80, highlighting silver's relative catch-up potential if macro and technical tailwinds persist. Growing concerns around US fiscal sustainability, softening labour market data, and the threat of tariff-driven supply disruptions are reinforcing the case for hard assets. These conditions also strengthen the possibility of a more dovish shift from the Federal Reserve, potentially opening the door to rate cuts sooner and deeper than previously expected. In this environment, gold pushing toward the USD 4,000 mark over the next 12 months is no longer out of the questions. Energy: Geopolitical risk premium returns In the energy sector, prices have rebounded strongly this month, initially buoyed by seasonal summer demand tightening supply. This has helped offset bearish factors such as rising OPEC+ output and macroeconomic uncertainties. What began as a steady recovery—partly fueled by short-covering—turned volatile last week when Brent crude spiked as much as 13%, reaching USD 78.50 per barrel, after Israel launched a prolonged series of airstrikes on Iranian nuclear and ballistic missile facilities. Thereby reducing the chance of a negotiated solution between the US and Iran, which have centered almost exclusively on Iran's rapidly advancing nuclear program, with the core objective of these talks to limit Iran's nuclear activities—particularly uranium enrichment—in exchange for relief from US-imposed economic sanctions. With Iran vowing to respond with missiles and drone attacks and rising fears of US involvement in strikes on Tehran and its underground nuclear facilities, the escalation has once again raised fears of broader conflict in a region responsible for a third of global oil output. Tensions around the Strait of Hormuz—through which over 20 million barrels of oil transit daily—are the main focus. Pricing a market that on balance—without a disruption—should trade closer to or below USD 70 is difficult, which is why the options market is increasingly being used by professionals to hedge the outside chance of a disruption spike, with the cost of buying calls now exceeding puts by a bigger margin than they did after Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine. Agriculture: Biofuel link, weather, and short covering offering support Agricultural commodities continue to trade mixed, with a small 2.3% year-to-date gain in the Bloomberg Agriculture Index being primarily driven by strength across the livestock sector, while the index-heavy grain and soybean sector trades close to flat on the year. However, just in the past week, some strength has emerged with soybeans and corn catching a bid on the back of stronger energy prices, given the crop's role in the production of biofuels, while CBOT wheat touched a one-week high after a slow start to the US winter wheat harvest. Speculators—net short in wheat for three consecutive years—were forced to unwind positions, despite the broader grain complex still showing mixed performance year-to-date. Together with an extended short position in corn, traders of these two crops will look for signs of additional strength, forcing additional short covering from a technical and momentum-driven perspective. Looking ahead: Risks to second-half momentum Finally, it's worth mentioning that while we see the commodity market being in the early stages of a multi-year super-cycle, several obstacles may prevent the sector from achieving a similar return in the second half. The energy sector may turn lower on a solution to the Middle East war, while the global economic impact of Trump's tariff war, especially in the US, may have a dampening impact on the global economic outlook. Inadvertently, if materialise such weakness may drive down the dollar further while triggering a fresh round of US rate cuts, thereby supporting demand for hard assets through a reduction in the cost of holding a non-coupon or dividend-paying asset.

RANSOMWARE ATTACKS TARGETING INDUSTRIAL OPERATORS SURGE 46% IN ONE QUARTER, HONEYWELL REPORT FINDS - Middle East Business News and Information

Honeywell's 2025 Cybersecurity Threat Report reveals energy, manufacturing and other critical industrial sectors face significant escalation in threats DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, June , 2025 – In a growing wave of sophisticated cyber threats against the industrial sector, ransomware attacks jumped by 46% from Q4 2024 to Q1 2025, according to Honeywell's (Nasdaq: HON) new 2025 Cybersecurity Threat Report. The research also found that both malware and ransomware increased significantly in this period and included a 3,000% spike in the use of one trojan designed to steal credentials from industrial operators. 'Industrial operations across critical sectors like energy and manufacturing must avoid unplanned downtime as much as possible – which is precisely why they are such attractive ransomware targets,' said Paul Smith, director of Honeywell Operational Technology (OT) Cybersecurity Engineering, who authored the report. 'These attackers are evolving fast, leveraging ransomware-as-a-service kits to compromise the industrial operations that keep our economy moving.' The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) in the United States defines incidents as substantial if they enable unauthorized access leading to significant operational downtime or impairments. Industry reports show that unplanned downtime, caused by cybersecurity attacks and other issues like equipment failure, cost Fortune 500 companies approximately $1.5 trillion annually representing 11% of their revenue. To develop the report, Honeywell researchers analyzed more than 250 billion logs, 79 million files and 4,600 incident events that were blocked across the company's global install base, finding: Ransomware still on the rise: 2,472 potential ransomware attacks were documented in the first quarter of 2025, which represent 40% of the annual total from 2024. Trojans exploiting industrial access: A dangerous trojan targeting OT systems – – accounted for 37% of files blocked by Honeywell's Secure Media Exchange (SMX). This finding points to a 3,000% spike in the trojan compared to the previous quarter. USB based threats persist: 1,826 unique USB threats were detected via SMX in Q1 2025, with 124 never-before-seen threats – indicating a persistent risk via external media and USB devices. This built on a 33% increase in USB malware detections in 2023, following a 700% year-over-year surge in 2022. The report expanded its analysis to include threats delivered through additional plug-in hardware – known as Human Interface Device (HID) – including mice, charging cords for mobile devices, laptops and other peripherals often used when updating or patching software for on-premise systems. 'With increasingly significant threats and updated SEC reporting regulations requiring the disclosure of material cybersecurity incidents, industrial operators must act decisively to mitigate costly unplanned downtime and risks, including those linked to safety,' Smith said. 'Leveraging Zero Trust architecture and AI for security analysis can speed detection and enable smarter decision making and proactive defense in an increasingly complex digital landscape.' Confluent Unites Batch and Stream Processing for Faster, Smarter Agentic AI and Analytics - Middle East Business News and Information

Confluent, Inc. (Nasdaq: CFLT), the data streaming pioneer, announced new Confluent Cloud capabilities that make it easier to process and secure data for faster insights and decision-making. Snapshot queries, new in Confluent Cloud for Apache Flink®, bring together real-time and historic data processing to make artificial intelligence (AI) agents and analytics smarter. Confluent Cloud network (CCN) routing simplifies private networking for Apache Flink®, and IP Filtering adds access controls for publicly accessible Flink pipelines, securing data for agentic AI and analytics. 'Agentic AI is moving from hype to enterprise adoption as organizations look to gain a competitive edge and win in today's market,' said Shaun Clowes, Chief Product Officer at Confluent. 'But without high-quality data, even the most advanced systems can't deliver real value. The new Confluent Cloud for Apache Flink® features make it possible to blend real-time and batch data so that enterprises can trust their agentic AI to drive real change.' Bridging the Real-Time and Batch Divide 'The rise of agentic AI orchestration is expected to accelerate, and companies need to start preparing now,' said Stewart Bond, Vice President of Data Intelligence and Integration Software at IDC. 'To unlock agentic AI's full potential, companies should seek solutions that unify disparate data types, including structured, unstructured, real-time, and historical information, in a single environment. This allows AI to derive richer insights and drive more impactful outcomes.' Agentic AI is driving widespread change in business operations by increasing efficiency and powering faster decision-making by analyzing data to uncover valuable trends and insights. However, for AI agents to make the right decisions, they need historical context about what happened in the past and insight into what's happening right now. For example, for fraud detection, banks need real-time data to react in the moment and historical data to see if a transaction fits a customer's usual patterns. Hospitals need real-time vitals alongside patient medical history to make safe, informed treatment decisions. But to leverage both past and present data, teams often have to use separate tools and develop manual workarounds, resulting in time-consuming work and broken workflows. Additionally, it's important to secure the data that's used for analytics and agentic AI; this ensures trustworthy results and prevents sensitive data from being accessed. Snapshot Queries Unify Processing on One Platform In Confluent Cloud, snapshot queries let teams unify historical and streaming data with a single product and language, enabling consistent, intelligent experiences for both analytics and agentic AI. With seamless Tableflow integration, teams can easily gain context from past data. Snapshot queries allow teams to explore, test, and analyze data without spinning up new workloads. This makes it easier to supply agents with context from historic and real-time data or conduct an audit to understand key trends and patterns. Snapshot queries are now available in early access. CCN Routing Simplifies Private Networking for Flink Private networking is important for organizations that require an additional layer of security. Confluent offers a streamlined private networking solution by reusing existing CCNs that teams have already created for Apache Kafka® clusters. Teams can use CCN to securely connect their data to any Flink workload, such as streaming pipelines, AI agents, or analytics. CCN routing is now generally available on Amazon Web Services (AWS) in all regions where Flink is supported. IP Filtering Protects Flink Workloads in Hybrid Environments Many organizations that operate in hybrid environments need more control over which data can be publicly accessed. IP Filtering for Flink helps teams restrict internet traffic to allowed IPs and improves visibility into unauthorized access attempts by making it easier to track the attempts. IP Filtering is generally available for all Confluent Cloud users. Now organizations can more easily turn the promise of agentic AI into a competitive advantage. To learn more about the other new Confluent Cloud features, including the Snowflake source connector, cross-cloud Cluster Linking, and new Schema Registry private networking features, check out the launch blog.
