10 households from each panchayat to get pucca house order on June 12: Minister Rabi Narayan Naik

BHUBANESWAR: The BJP government on Tuesday announced to sanction pucca houses for 10 beneficiaries under Antyodaya Gruha Yojana in each panchayat to mark its first anniversary of coming to power in the state, on June 12.
Panchayati Raj Minister Rabi Narayan Naik said block development officers (BDOs) have been asked to submit a list of beneficiaries within five days. Around 68,000 houses will be provided by the government in the first phase, he said.
The minister said the move represents government's commitment to implementing welfare schemes and improving the lives of citizens.
The Odisha government has approved the Antyodaya Gruha Yojana, allocating `7,550 crore to build 2.25 lakh pucca houses for disadvantaged families over the next three years.
The scheme was launched by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi at Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi district on March 31. The houses will be provided to low-income households which have not been selected under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G).
The government had launched a comprehensive survey on January 24 this year to identify all eligible families who have been left out of the previous housing schemes. The survey has so far identified more than 26 lakh beneficiary households.

'Even while tendering an apology, the MLA mentioned the sarpanch's religion, which is absolutely unacceptable,' Mr. Ramakrishna stated, adding that such behaviour was unbecoming of an elected representative in a democratic and civil society. He said that public officials must act with a sense of responsibility and avoid any reference to caste or religion in their public conduct. 'We demand strict action against MLA Parthasarathi. The government must ensure such incidents are not repeated in future,' he said. It may be recalled that a video from Adoni in Andhra Pradesh's Kurnool district has gone viral, showing the BJP MLA allegedly humiliating a Dalit sarpanch during a public event on June 16. The MLA is seen denying the sarpanch access to the stage and questioning, 'Is he a Christian?' after learning about his caste.

Minister Sivankutty alleges Raj Bhavan behind ABVP protests; BJP accuses CPI(M) of 'violence'

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala General Education Minister V Sivankutty on Sunday claimed that the protests by the BJP's youth and student groups against him, over the 'Bharat Mata' controversy, were aimed at causing riots in the state and were allegedly held on instructions of the Raj Bhavan. Hitting back at the CPI(M), BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar accused the Left party of trying to suppress protests by resorting to violence against the protestors. He warned that if the Left government uses force to suppress protests, it will face retaliation in the same manner. Earlier in the day, Sivankutty told reporters that he has been attacked and his travels obstructed during the last couple of days after he walked out of a programme at the Raj Bhavan where a portrait of 'Bharat Mata' -- as seen in RSS events -- was displayed. He said that as a minister, MLA and a citizen, he has the right to protest against the actions of the Governor at the Raj Bhavan and that is what he did. "The Governor has said that he will continue with it (the portrait) and we have not responded to that," he added.
