Iraq's President rejects judicial intervention on court rulings
Shafaq News/ On Sunday, Iraqi President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid rejected a proposal by the State Administration Coalition (SAC)—an alliance of major Shiite, Sunni, and Kurdish parties—to hold a legal consultation on recent conflicting rulings issued by the Federal Supreme Court and the Court of Cassation. In a letter, Rashid warned that convening such a meeting would undermine the judiciary's independence, emphasizing that involving legal and constitutional experts could open the door to external interference. He recommended referring the matter to the Supreme Judicial Council instead. This objection comes amid rising tension within Iraq's highest judicial body, when nine judges—six permanent and three reserve—stepped down under external pressure, accusing certain government actors of attempting to influence the court for political purposes.

Araghchi: US crossed a red line with attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities
Shafaq News/ Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Sunday blamed the United States for the aftermath of its airstrikes on Iran's nuclear facilities, denouncing the assault as a clear violation of international law. Speaking in Istanbul, Araghchi accused Washington of launching an unprovoked attack on the Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan sites while Tehran remained engaged in diplomatic efforts, charging President Donald Trump with bowing to Israeli pressure and sabotaging negotiations. 'By targeting internationally monitored nuclear sites, the United States has crossed a red line,' Araghchi warned. 'Iran will respond decisively to US aggression and Israeli provocation.' He urged the UN Security Council to convene an emergency session to hold Washington accountable for breaching the UN Charter. 'Diplomacy must stay alive,' he stressed, 'but after this strike, Iran will exercise its full right to self-defense.' Regarding the Strait of Hormuz closure, Araghchi stated that "multiple options are on the table." Meanwhile, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) vowed, in a statement, to target US military positions across the region, condemning the strikes as a 'war crime' carried out in coordination with Israel and pledging to escalate the True Promise 3 campaign, which has already launched 20 waves of missiles and drones into Israel. 'This aggression only strengthens our resolve to advance peaceful nuclear science,' the IRGC declared, cautioning that Iran now holds 'the legitimate right to retaliate using means beyond the imagination of the aggressor alliance,' while promising that any future attacks would provoke responses severe enough to leave perpetrators 'regretting their actions.' The fallout comes after US strikes hit Iran's major nuclear facilities on Sunday—an operation confirmed by President Trump. The Israeli military spokesperson Effie Defrin confirmed close coordination with the US in the recent assault, revealing that Iran had fired 20 missiles earlier in the day—most of which were allegedly intercepted. Israel responded by striking several launch sites.

IAEA calls emergency meeting after US strikes Iran's nuclear sites
Shafaq News/ The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) scheduled an emergency Board of Governors meeting to address the US airstrikes on Iran's Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear facilities. IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi announced the session would be held Monday, without disclosing the agenda. In light of the urgent situation in Iran, I am convening an emergency meeting of the @IAEAorg Board of Governors for tomorrow. — Rafael Mariano Grossi (@rafaelmgrossi) June 22, 2025 In Tehran, Atomic Energy Organization chief Mohammad Eslami urged Grossi to publicly condemn the strikes, accusing the agency of remaining silent in the face of a clear violation of Iranian sovereignty. He insisted Iran would continue defending its rights. Satellite imagery published by The Washington Post revealed heightened activity at the Fordow facility ahead of the attack. On June 19, sixteen trucks were recorded entering the site, several positioned near underground access points. In the aftermath, CBS News reported that US officials contacted Tehran to de-escalate tensions, framing the strike as a limited action not aimed at regime change, with the Trump administration reportedly ruling out additional military operations.
