Hyundai's Green Engine Testing Technology Saves Over 2 Million Kg Of CO2 Emissions
Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) crossed a major landmark in sustainable manufacturing, having tested over 4.25 million engine units using its innovative cold bed engine testing technology - a process that eliminates the need for fuel, coolant, and water. In a first-of-its-kind approach, Hyundai has replaced traditional fuel-based engine testing with a fully electric, zero-emission system powered by renewable energy. Introduced in 2013, this cold bed testing method uses electric motors and smart sensors to evaluate engine performance, making the process not just cleaner but also more precise. The switch to cold bed engine testing allowed HMIL to prevent over 2 million kilograms of CO2 emissions, aligning with Hyundai's global goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2045. In addition to its environmental benefits, the company estimates operational cost savings of nearly USD 1 million, while also enhancing workplace safety and testing efficiency. Unlike conventional hot testing methods that rely on burning fuel, cold bed engine testing involves placing each engine into a dedicated station where an electric motor rotates the crankshaft. A suite of high-tech sensors then monitors various performance indicators - such as crankshaft angle, engine compression, and chamber pressure - to ensure every unit meets Hyundai's quality benchmarks. All data from these tests is stored digitally, contributing to ongoing research and allowing engineers to track long-term trends for continuous product improvement. The fully automated system is also integrated with Industry 4.0 protocols, reinforcing HMIL's push towards smart manufacturing.

Oman income tax: 5% levy on high earners from 2028; 99% population to remain unaffected
Oman to introduce first income tax for high earners from 2028 (Image credits: ANI) Oman announced the introduction of personal income tax, targeting high-income individuals, as part of a broader fiscal reform initiative under its Vision 2040 strategy. The new tax, first in the history of Oman, will take effect from January 1, 2028, and impose a 5 per cent levy on individuals earning more than OMR 42,000 per year. The measure was formally issued under Royal Decree No. 56/2025 by Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and marks a significant step towards economic diversification. Karima Mubarak Al Saadi, director of the personal income tax project, said that infrastructure, training, and legal frameworks are already in place, reported ANI. She added that awareness and educational guides for individuals and businesses will be rolled out in stages ahead of the law's implementation. All you need to know about Oman's new income tax The new law includes 76 articles across 16 chapters, clearly defining taxable income categories. It also outlines social exemptions for essential expenses such as education, housing, healthcare, zakat, and donations, ensuring fairness and shielding low- and middle-income earners from additional financial burden. According to the nation's tax authority, the exemption threshold has been deliberately kept high to ensure that about 99 per cent of Oman's population remains unaffected by the tax. The primary objective of the new personal income tax is to increase the contribution of non-oil revenues to Oman's GDP, which the government aims to raise to 18 per cent by 2040. To facilitate implementation, Oman is building a modern electronic tax system that will link government databases for accurate income reporting and improved compliance. The executive regulations for the new law will be issued within a year of its publication in the Official Gazette. Other goals include improving fiscal stability, supporting public welfare programs, and enhancing the country's credit ratings. In 2024, Oman collected OMR 1.4 billion in corporate, VAT, and selective taxes. The addition of personal income tax is expected to strengthen the nation's fiscal position and enhance its appeal to global investors. This move also reflects a broader regional shift in the Gulf, where countries are seeking to build more sustainable and resilient economies by reducing dependence on oil income. ‘Yogi ji gave me biscuit, chocolate': UP CM Yogi Adityanath helps young girl enroll in school during Janta Darshan — watch
LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath held a 'Janta Darshan' in Lucknow on Monday, where he met a young girl named Vashi who requested help with school admission. During the interaction, the CM asked her which school she wished to join and the class she wanted to enrol in. He then directed officials to ensure her admission to the school of her choice. Vashi, who met CM Yogi Adityanath, narrated the entire interaction and said, "I met Yogi ji. I asked him to enrol me in a school. He said he would do it." "I have come from Moradabad. He gave me a biscuit and chocolate", Vashi added further. Since becoming the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath has regularly conducted 'Janta Darshan' events to listen to and address public grievances. — ANI (@ANI) Earlier, the CM inaugurated the 91.35-km-long Gorakhpur Link Expressway, constructed at a cost of Rs 7,283 crore. The expressway connects several districts, including Azamgarh, to Gorakhpur. Highlighting the state's development, Yogi Adityanath said that the new Uttar Pradesh is carving out a new identity as the "Expressway State" in a new India. Under the able leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh is taking new heights of development, confidence and glory with the largest expressway network in the country," said CM Yogi. Criticising the previous state government, Yogi Adityanath that the Agra-Lucknow Expressway was only half completed under their tenure. In contrast, he highlighted that during his government's tenure, projects related to six expressways in Uttar Pradesh have been successfully completed. "The work on the Agra Lucknow Expressway was half done. Today, I am happy to tell you that we have completed six projects. You are witnessing the journey of the Purvanchal Expressway. We have been continuously building it since 2021. In 2022, the Bundelkhand Expressway was started. It is 300 km long. The 340 km long Purvanchal Expressway has already been completed, and its connectivity to Patna is about to be completed. Now remember how easy the connectivity from Patna to Lucknow and Lucknow to Delhi will become", CM Yogi said. He stated that the 340 km-long Purvanchal Expressway is set to extend its connectivity to Patna. Referring to freedom fighter Veer Kunwar Singh, he remarked that had the Purvanchal Expressway existed in 1857, India might have achieved independence back then. "When Veer Kunwar Singh, the hero of the first war of independence in 1857, fought the British till Azamgarh to defeat them, there was no connectivity. If this Purvanchal Expressway had been there at that time, the people of Azamgarh would have beaten the British along with Veer Kunwar Singh, and then this country would have become independent in 1857 itself. There was no connectivity at that time", he added.
