HC reserves order on Anjaneyulu's bail plea
Vijayawada: The high court on Friday reserved orders in the bail petition filed by former APPSC secretary and DG rank officer PSR Anjaneyulu, who was arrested in connection with alleged irregularities in Group I evaluation and is under judicial remand.
The court said it will pronounce orders on Monday.
Arguing on behalf of the police, assistant public prosecutor Sai Rohit said Anjaneyulu is not cooperating with the police, and expressing anger at investigating officers during his questioning in police custody and repeatedly saying that he is responsible for everything. Anjaneyulu has been charged with illegally paying money to a private company and getting the answer sheets evaluated by ineligible persons.
Arguing on behalf of the IPS officer, S Nagesh Reddy said the evaluation was not done at a private place as is being alleged. Only verification of answer sheets was done there. "He has been in jail for the last 30 days and has completed two days of police custody. As the petitioner is suffering from ill health, bail may be granted with conditions," he urged the court.
PVG Umesh Chandra, who appeared for Madhusudhan, another accused in the case, said the petitioner acted according to the terms of the agreement and sought bail with conditions. Considering the arguments, the high court reserved orders for Monday.

An Assam-based Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, Gaurav Upadhyay, has been accused of molesting a minor. A special court in Assam recently ordered the framing of charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and other sections of the IPC against Upadhyay in the six-year-old case. The incident, involving a 14-year-old girl, took place in December 2019, news agency PTI reported. A police case was registered in January 2020. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) probed the case and submitted its chargesheet against the IPS officer subsequently. In its order, the special court said that there were "two incidents of sexual assault on the survivor" by the accused, who was the superintendent of police of Assam's Karbi Anglong at the time of the incident. "The first assault occurred in the SP Bungalow at Diphu [town in Assam]. The second assault took place in the hotel room where the survivor was staying with her mother and brother," the court was quoted by news agency PTI as saying. The judge noted that as Upadhyay was the Karbi Anglong SP at the time of the incident, it occurred within the limits of his jurisdiction and control as a police officer, attracting clauses (i) and (l) of Section 9 of the POCSO Act and punishable under Section 10 of the same law. The court's order reportedly stated that the use of "criminal force to kiss" the victim and "physical contact and advances" by touching her private parts — as stated specifically by the minor in her statement — leads to charges under Sections 354 and 354A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). "In the circumstances, charges under Section 10 of the POCSO Act and Sections 354, 354A of the IPC are hereby framed," the special judge ruled. Section 10 of the POCSO Act deals with the punishment for aggravated sexual assault, while Sections 354 and 354A of IPC are for offences related to assault or criminal force on a woman with the intent to outrage her modesty or sexual harassment Gaurav Upadhyay is an IPS officer of 2012 batch. He hails from Uttar Pradesh. As per his LinkedIn profile, Upadhyay "transitioned into the Indian Police Service borne on Assam-Meghalaya Cadre" in 2012 and "served as Superintendent of Police in four challenging districts, overseeing Crime Detection and Prevention, managing Law and Order, Logistics etc." Upadhyay is currently the additional secretary of the state Transport Department; State Project Director, Assam Inland Water Transport Development Society; and Project Officer, Assam Integrated River Basin Management. Gaurav Upadhyay said in his LinkedIn profile that he also has an extensive experience in the Information Technology sector. "Holding a in Information Technology and an MBA in IT and Marketing from the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, he possesses a solid foundation in both technical and managerial domains," the profile read. It added, "Over a span of nearly six years in IT Multinationals such as IBM, Black Box Corporation, and Dimension Data, he excelled in roles involving account management, market segment analysis, and business development across northern India."

Elderly YSRCP Worker Run Over by Jagan Reddy's Car During Rally
New Delhi: An elderly man was run over by the convoy of former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy during a rally near Eturukur village on the outskirts of Guntur city last week. The incident came to light on Sunday after several videos surfaced on social media, showing that it was Reddy's car that crushed 65-year-old Cheeli Singaiah, a YSR Congress Party worker, to death. According to the Times of India, the rally carried on with people unaware that Singaiah had been crushed under Reddy's vehicle. Jagan was enroute from Rentapalla village in the Sattenapalli constituency to console the family of a party worker who had died by suicide last year. A massive crowd was following the convoy when the incident took place. According to reports, Singaiah had approached the vehicle to shower flowers on Reddy. As the police struggled to manage the crowd, Singaiah was reportedly pushed down in the chaos. While those near the elderly activist raised alarm on realising what had happened, Reddy's security personnel and driver did not stop the vehicle. Singaiah was later rushed to the hospital. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival. According to the Times of India, YSRCP leaders have given a cheque of Rs 10 lakh as ex gratia from the party to Singaiah's family.

Saiyed family buried together on 9th day of tragedy
Ahmedabad: Hundreds from the Khanpur neighbourhood in the walled city joined the Saiyed family on Saturday afternoon to bid a final farewell to four of its members. They parted with the family on June 12 on their journey to England, promising to meet again for another festival celebration. The Saiyed family came to India from England and was returning with their daughter after celebrating the festival of Eid-ul-Adha with family members. All four — Inayat Ali Saiyed, his wife Nafeesabanu, daughter Taskin, and son Vaqi Ali — became victims of a tragic plane crash a couple of hours after family members in Ahmedabad went to the airport for a sendoff. The Saiyed family, consisting of six brothers who live together in one building in the Khanpur area, waited for nine days before all of them were identified after the DNA match, allowing them to bury their dear ones. Inayat's eldest brother, Badesaab Saiyed, said that three bodies were identified two days ago, but Nafeesabanu's DNA matched on Saturday. "It was a feeling of our family members that we should bury all four members together, and therefore we waited for two more days," he said after returning from the burial at the Musa Suhag graveyard. Inayat and his wife lived in Wembley for 19 years. Their son, Vaqi, shifted to England a few years ago after completing his schooling. Taskin joined her parents in the UK to begin a new chapter in her life. She completed her MBBS from the NHL Medical College in Ahmedabad. Her uncle said that she cleared the Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board (PLAB) exam conducted by the General Medical Council and became eligible to practice medicine in England. "She planned to pursue her postgraduation in the UK only. But she was supposed to join a hospital as a doctor there after 15 days. That is why she joined her parents," he said.
