Prayagraj: The tension between India and Pakistan affected travel plans across the country, with the Prayagraj division of the
North Central Railway
witnessing a significant impact. In just two days, over 70,000 reserved train tickets were cancelled, resulting in refunds totalling around Rs 6 crore. However, with India and Pakistan announcing ceasefire, travel industry is optimistic that normalcy would return soon.According to Amit Kumar Singh, public relations officer of the Prayagraj division, as many as 20,458 reserved tickets were cancelled on May 7; 23,131 on May 8 and another 27,534 on May 9 were cancelled from different stations under the Prayagraj division of the North Central Railway (NCR).
On May 9 alone, Rs 2,28,68,102 was refunded against cancellation of confirmed tickets. Passengers are increasingly avoiding travel to border states like Rajasthan, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir and Gujarat due to security concerns following
Operation Sindoor
in wake of the recent terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam. The cancellations were reported from major stations, including Prayagraj Junction, Kanpur, Fatehpur, Mirzapur, Etawah, Manikpur, Aligarh, and Tundla. The impact of the conflict is not limited to domestic train travel.

Tour packages for popular destinations in Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir are also being cancelled. In the last two days alone, over 48 travellers from Prayagraj have withdrawn their bookings for domestic holidays as well as international destinations like Thailand, Maldives and Malaysia. This has resulted in significant losses for travel agents, particularly those catering to summer vacation plans.
Passengers are expressing unease, with many opting to cancel their trips. "I had to go on a pilgrimage to Maa Vaishno Devi after May 20, but I cancelled the ticket in view of the current situation," said Pratibha Singh of Salori.Vivek Singh from Civil Lines echoed similar concerns, stating he had planned a family trip to Manali via Chandigarh but decided it was not safe to proceed. Tour operators confirm the trend, with Sandeep Mishra of Travels Safe saying many travellers initially diverted from Kashmir to other hill destinations. As the situation worsened, those bookings are being scrapped too."Earlier Kashmir packages were cancelled. Now it's Himachal, Ladakh, Uttarakhand and even international packages. Financially, we are hit hard," Mishra said, highlighting the significant impact on the travel industry. The trend of cancelling train tickets is particularly pronounced on trains heading towards Delhi and border states like Haryana, Punjab, Jammu and Rajasthan. Although some trains still have available reservations, the number of ticket cancellations significantly outweighs new bookings.

FASTag annual pass at Rs 3,000: Check out the rules, date, who can apply, and much more
FASTag annual pass: From August 15, 2025, a revolutionary FASTag annual pass priced at ₹3,000 will transform highway travel for private vehicle owners in India. Announced by Nitin Gadkari, this prepaid toll scheme offers up to 200 toll-free trips or one year of unlimited access across National Highways and Expressways. Tailored for cars, jeeps, and vans, the new pass replaces cumbersome monthly top-ups with one seamless payment, promoting cashless travel and reducing congestion at toll plazas. With potential savings of up to 70% compared to regular toll rates, frequent commuters, and long-distance travelers stand to benefit significantly. Ready to streamline your journeys and save money effortlessly? Discover how this pass could redefine your road trips. FASTags annual plan start date Beginning August 15, 2025, the government will offer a new Annual FASTag Pass. You can travel up to 200 miles on national highways without paying additional tolls for just ₹3,000. Rules do apply, though, and every journey is meticulously tallied. What is FASTags annual plan? Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari has launched a new FASTag yearly plan. The new proposal expands on the prior use of the FASTag in several ways. Users can now recharge for at least Rs 3,000 under the new FASTag annual plan, covering 200 trips or a full year, whichever comes first. According to the minister, the new method addresses the "long-standing issues" associated with toll plazas. It is only intended for private non-commercial vehicles like automobiles, jeeps, and vans. Additionally, he promised that the average cost of a toll plaza pass would drop to just Rs 15, saving users at least Rs 7,000 per pass. How does this new system operate? It is scheduled to take effect on August 15, 2025. Let's examine every important aspect of the FASTag yearly strategy. Is FASTags annual plan mandatory? There is no requirement to follow this new FASTag yearly plan. Another plan is to aim for seamless travel and avoid traffic jams at the toll booth. This implies that the FASTag system will not be altered as it currently exists. If they decide not to purchase the Annual Pass, they can still use their FASTag to pay for tolls normally, with fees levied according to the going rates at each toll booth. FASTags annual plan's price As previously stated, the new FASTag yearly plan has a minimum annual cost of Rs 3,000. Upon reaching 200 journeys or a full year of use, whichever occurs first, the pass will automatically return to its normal FASTag functioning. However, drivers can buy a new annual pass immediately if they hit the 200-trip restriction before the year ends. This pass cannot be transferred to another vehicle; it is exclusively associated with the vehicle on which the FASTag is registered. Each crossing is considered a single trip at location-based toll stations, while return trips are recorded as two. One full entry and exit shall be regarded as a single journey in the event of closed toll systems. However, according to a Ministry statement, the pass's cost is subject to change every year, with changes going into effect on April 1. Therefore, beginning with each fiscal year, the minimum pricing will likely rise (or fall). How to activate FASTags annual plan? Only until the vehicle's eligibility and associated FASTag have been confirmed will the pass be activated. After being accepted, the user has to pay Rs 3,000 through the NHAI website or the Rajmargyatra mobile app for the base year 2025–2026. The Annual Pass will be activated on the registered FASTag following payment processing, and the user will get SMS updates regarding the pass. The Annual Pass can be added to an existing FASTag account if it satisfies the requirements, so those who currently have one don't need to purchase a new one. This entails being properly attached to the car's windscreen, being associated with a legitimate registration number, and not being placed on a blacklist. Who can avail FASTag annual pass? Cars, Jeeps, and vans are the non-commercial personal vehicles for which the plan is specifically designed. The vehicle must have a current FASTag to be eligible for the annual pass. The FASTag needs to be properly affixed to the car's windshield. A legitimate Vehicle Registration Number (VRN) should be linked to it. There should be no controversy or blacklisting of the FASTag. To be eligible, users whose FASTag is linked to just a chassis number must update their data with the full VRN. How do you calculate a trip? At toll plazas with a point system: It counts as one trip each time you cross a toll. Traveling somewhere and coming back will be considered two excursions. At closed toll roads (such as highways): One trip is one whole journey (entry to exit). Will you receive alerts via SMS? You will receive vital SMS alerts from the Rajmarg Yatra app using the cellphone number linked to your bank when you activate the pass. Want Australian citizenship? This visa for top talent may get you there
Are you an athlete, academic, artist or entrepreneur with international recognition in your field? Australia has introduced a new permanent residency visa specifically for individuals like you — those with a track record of outstanding achievement in their area of talent.
