20 new classrooms for Sungai Buloh schools to address overcrowding
PETALING JAYA: Twenty additional classrooms will be built in several schools across the Sungai Buloh parliamentary constituency.
Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan said the move was necessary to accommodate the growing number of students, particularly in densely populated areas.
"This initiative involves primary and secondary schools that have recorded more students than their maximum capacity.
"Among the schools receiving new classrooms are SMK Saujana Utama(4), SMK Bandar Baru Sungai Buloh (5), and SMK Sierramas (4).
"SMK Bukit Gading will receive three extra classrooms, while SK Seksyen 6 Damansara will get one.
"Four classrooms will be added at SK Seri Pristina, where student density is particularly high," he told reporters after officiating the Sungai Buloh 2024 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) Excellent Student Incentive Ceremony at the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) Hall here today.
Ramanan, who is also the Sungai Buloh member of Parliament, said the project is in the tender process and declined to disclose the cost to avoid disrupting procedures.
At the event, Ramanan announced Yayasan Bank Rakyat (YBR), in collaboration with his ministry, had allocated RM143,200 for 311 SPM high-achieving SPM school leavers in Sungai Buloh.
"This initiative is part of YBR's ongoing efforts to support national educational development, particularly in appreciating the achievements of outstanding students and motivating them to continue excelling in the future.
"The recipients are students who obtained between 7As and 11As. This recognition serves as a catalyst to reaffirm that education is the key to transforming lives," he said.
"Credit must also be given to the parents and teachers who are the backbone of these achievements.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) directed Air India to remove three company executives from crew scheduling roles - a divisional vice president, a chief manager of crew scheduling and one planning executive - for lapses linked to flights from Bengaluru to London on May 16 and May 17 that exceeded the stipulated pilot flight time limit of 10 hours. The June 20 order cited "systemic failures in scheduling protocol and oversights" and criticised the lack of strict disciplinary measures against responsible officials. The latest action by the aviation authority against the airline is unrelated to this month's crash of an Air India Boeing 787-8 plane that killed all but one of the 242 people onboard but signal heightened scrutiny of the airline. On Thursday, Reuters reported the authorities had also warned Air India for breaching safety rules after three of its Airbus planes flew despite being overdue for checks on emergency equipment of escape slides. The latest order by assistant director of operations at the DGCA, Himanshu Srivastava, said: "Of particular concern is the absence of strict disciplinary measures against key officials directly responsible." In a statement to Reuters, Air India said it has implemented the DGCA order and in the interim, the company's chief operations officer will provide direct oversight to the Integrated Operations Control Centre. "Air India is committed to ensuring that there is total adherence to safety protocols and standard practices," it added. The DGCA stated in its order that Air India had voluntarily disclosed the violations. Air India was taken over by the Tata Group in 2022 and faces many challenges in its attempts to rebuild its image, after years of criticism from travelers for poor service. The Indian regulator, like many abroad, often fines airlines for compliance lapses. India's government in February told parliament that authorities had warned or fined airlines in 23 instances for safety violations last year. Around half of them - 12 - involved Air India and Air India Express. The biggest fine was $127,000 on Air India for "insufficient oxygen on board" during some international flights. 4.8 million Sara recipients use MyKad to buy essential items
GEORGE TOWN: A total of 4.8 million out of 5.4 million recipients of the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (Sara) aid have used their MyKad to purchase basic necessities at registered premises nationwide as of this month. Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying said Perlis recorded the highest usage rate at 94 per cent, followed by 93 per cent in Sabah and Kedah, while Penang recorded 88 per cent. She said the figures reflect the growing effectiveness of the initiative, supported by various awareness and promotional efforts at both federal and state levels. "The ministry will continue to strengthen awareness campaigns to ensure more people benefit from this government aid, which is aimed at easing their financial burden. "We have also significantly expanded the number of recipients from 700,000 to 5.4 million since April," she told reporters during a Sara outreach programme at a hypermarket here today. At the event, Lim met with 100 Sara recipients in Penang as part of the ministry's effort to engage directly with urban communities. She said to date, 3,700 retail premises have registered under the programme nationwide, enabling recipients to shop closer to home. In Penang alone, 190 such premises are available. Lim added that since May 1, the programme was enhanced by expanding the list of eligible items to 14 categories, including household and personal hygiene products, medicines, and school supplies like uniforms and shoes. The maximum Sara aid for 2025 has been raised to RM2,100 from RM1,200 — a 75 per cent increase, she said. Ramanan fetes 311 top SPM students from Sungai Buloh
KUALA LUMPUR: The Sungai Buloh parliamentary constituency, in collaboration with Yayasan Bank Rakyat (YBR), celebrates 311 students who achieved outstanding results in the 2024 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination on Saturday (June 21). Its MP, Datuk Seri R. Ramanan, said the initiative, which involves an allocation of RM143,200, aims to recognise the students' achievements and encourage them to strive for further success. "Today, a total of 311 students with excellent results benefited from YBR's corporate social responsibility programme. This is not a new initiative, but part of an ongoing effort. "In the past, nearly RM500,000 has been channelled to the Sungai Buloh parliamentary constituency service centre through various programmes, including 'Back to School'. We plan to continue these efforts in the coming years," the Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister told reporters here. The students were from 11 schools across Sungai Buloh.
