Air India reduces international services on wide-body aircraft by 15%
Gurugram (Haryana) [India], June 19 (ANI): Air India has reduced its international services on wide-body aircraft by 15 per cent for the next few weeks. The decision comes after the tragic loss of 241 lives on board Air India-171 flight, which crashed in Ahmedabad.
According to an official statement by Air India, the cuts will be implemented between June 18 and 20, and will continue until at least mid-July. The decision has been taken to add to the airlines' reserve aircraft availability to take care of any unplanned disruptions.
Air India has given its passengers a choice to either reschedule their travel without any cost or to be given a full refund, while the airline is attempting to accommodate its international passengers on alternate flights.
The revised schedule of Air India's international services, effective from June 20, will be shared shortly, said the official statement.
Offering condolences to the families of the deceased in the plane crash, the airlines said, in coordination with the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Government of Gujarat, Air India is making efforts to support the family members of the deceased and the injured.
Air India and Tata Group volunteers are deputed in Ahmedabad for coordination with family members for any assistance at the hospitals and for them to travel back to their respective homes with the mortal remains of the deceased, the official statement by the airlines said.
Giving an update regarding the investigation into the crash, Air India said that the investigating authorities are continuing their efforts to find out the reasons for the accident. The DGCA had mandated 'Enhanced Safety Inspection' across Air India's Boeing 787-8/9 aircraft fleet. Out of total 33 aircraft, inspections have now been completed on 26 and these have been cleared for service, while inspection of the remainder will be complete in the coming days.
The statement said, 'As a matter of added precaution, Air India will also undertake enhanced safety checks on its Boeing 777 fleet and, going forward, we will continue to cooperate with the authorities, viz AAIB, DGCA, MoCA to ensure the safety of our passengers, our crew and our aircraft, which remains our highest priority.'
Earlier on Wednesday, Air India and Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran publicly expressed his sorrow over the London-bound Air India flight crash on June 12, finally breaking his silence after the tragedy during an interview with Group Editor-in-Chief of Times Now and Times Now Navbharat, Navika Kumar.
In an exclusive interview on The NewsHour with Navika Kumar, Chandrasekaran said that the airline was doing everything possible to support the victims' families and that there were no words to console the grieving families, but he pledged that the company would stand with them now and in the future as well.
'It is an extremely difficult situation where I have no words to console any of the families of those who died. I deeply regret that this accident happened in a Tata-run airline. And I feel very sorry. All we can do is to be with the families at this time, grieve with them and we will do everything to support them at this hour and beyond,' the Tata Sons Chairman stated. (ANI)

CBI cracks down on Rs 183 crore fake bank guarantee scam, arrests two
New Delhi [India], June 21 (ANI): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) initiated three distinct cases on May 9, in accordance with directives issued by the High Court of Madhya Pradesh, the agency said in a release on Thursday. According to the release, these cases involve a significant financial fraud involving an Indore-based company that submitted forged bank guarantees totalling Rs. 183.21 crores to the Madhya Pradesh Jol Nigam Limited ( In 2023, the company secured three immigration projects in Madhya Pradesh worth a staggering Rs. 974 crores from MPJNL. To support these contracts, eight fake bank guarantees valued at Rs. 183.21 crores were submitted. During initial verification, received fraudulent email responses impersonating the official domain of Punjab National Bank (PNB), falsely confirming the authenticity of the bank guarantees. Relying on these confirmations, MP JNL awarded the firm three contracts valued at over Rs. 974 crores in this matter. The CBI launched a large-scale operation on June 19 and June 20, conducting searches at 23 locations across five states: New Delhi, West Bengal, Gujarat, Jharkhand, and Madhya Pradesh. This operation led to the arrest of two individuals from Kolkata, including a senior manager from Punjab National Bank, the CBI said. Both individuals were produced today before the local jurisdictional court in Kolkata and will be brought to Indore on transit remand, it said. The investigation so far has revealed that a Kolkata-based syndicate has been systematically fabricating and circulating fake bank guarantees to secure government contracts across multiple states. "BRICS currency is a very complex discussion": Brazil's Ambassador to India
New Delhi [India], June 21 (ANI): Brazil's Ambassador to India, Kenneth Felix Haczynski da Nobrega said on Friday that BRICS currency is an aspirational objective and not something that will happen in the short term. Ambassador said that BRICS countries have already been trading in local currency and one should not relate this to de-dollarisation. 'BRICS currency is a very complex discussion. An agreement among 11 members of in terms of harmonising their fiscal and monetary policy is very complex. I think this is an aspirational objective, not something that will be reaped in the short term,' he told ANI. Nobrega further said that the idea of BRICS currency is one more 'option' for countries to do business. 'But when it comes to trade in local currencies, this can be envisaged and enforced in the short term... We have already been trading in local currency, and this is nothing new, and nothing really that we should relate to move towards just an option for countries for businesses to do, to engage in trade and investment,' he said. He told ANI that they have a few priorities to look forward in their BRICS chairpersonship. 'The first being reform of multilateral institutions, so that emerging economies like Brazil and India have a voice.' 'You know we have priorities in our chairship. The first is reform of multilateral institutions. This is a founding platform of BRICS. Since its inception, BRICS has stood for the reform of global multilateral institutions so that countries emerging countries like Brazil and India will have more voice, more influence on the elaboration of the rulemaking of international institutions,' he said. Another priority that they have is boosting partnerships in the health sector. 'The second is health. It basically boosts partnerships in public health like development of vaccines, development of medicines to cure, Neglected disease, tropical disease. So this is another another priority,' he said. 'Third priority for Brazil is regulation of artificial intelligence,' he said. 'The third priority is regulation, multilateral regulation of artificial intelligence so that artificial intelligence will be multilateral regulator to the benefit of a larger number of countries. I think this is another one,' he said. He said that fourth priority was financial cooperation and fifth was accommodating new members in the working of BRICS. 'Fourth is economic and financial cooperation. Fifth is what we have called a little bit of updating the way BRICS works because now we have six new members and a number of partner members, so the idea that we could change a little bit, adjust a little bit the working methods,' he said. He further mentioned that they have two members- Russia and Iran which are involved in conflicts and BRICS is trying to find a solution to these wars. 'We have two members involved in conflicts- Russia and Iran. Well, I think it's always the traditional focus of BRICS trying to find a peaceful solution to these wars, to these disputes because BRICS always stood for diplomacy, for peace,' he said. Nobrega said that the developments between Iran and Israel is very dynamic and its solution should be found through diplomatic means. 'Of course the developments on the ground in Iran in this war between Israel and Iran are very quick, very dynamic, so we don't know where we are going to be in about three weeks, but BRICS has a tradition of discussing openly this very, very complex situations and always trying to have one voice in favour of a peaceful settlement of disputes because there is no way out. We have to find through diplomatic means,' he said. He further said that Brazil and India's coordination is very natural in multilateral fora. 'Brazil and India have traditionally coordinated in multilateral fora and also in BRICS. I have worked for BRICS for some years and I coordinated on a daily basis with my Indian colleagues because we have common ideas, common values, common interests, so the coordination is very natural, I would say,' he said. Union Minister Kishan Reddy commences two-day visit to Eastern Coalfields Limited

During his visit on 20 and June 21, the Minister will review operations at the Jhanjra Underground Mine and Sonepur Bazari OCP, inaugurate the Eco Park at Jhanjra named as 'Sindoor Park' to commemorate the recent successful 'Operation Sindoor' and participate in the grand celebration of International Day of Yoga 2025 at the Eco Park, as stated in the release. The Minister will also inaugurate the newly constructed Mahudanga Rehabilitation Site, said the release. Additionally, extending support to local communities, Reddy will distribute appointment letters to candidates under compassionate employment as per NCWA guidelines and provide tricycles to people with disabilities at RN Colony, Sonepur Bazari Area, ECL. As part of his engagement, Reddy will hold interactive sessions with stakeholders across the mining ecosystem, including coal mine workers who have played a vital role in achieving the milestones for the organization.
