IAF aircraft airlifts critically 'ill' army personnel from Kargil
New Delhi [India], June 8 (ANI): An Indian Air Force aircraft successfully airlifted a critically ill Indian Army personnel from the high-altitude region of Kargil to Command Hospital Chandimandir on Saturday morning, authorities said.

On June 4, In the wake of heavy rains and devastating landslides in North Sikkim, the Indian Air Force (IAF) on Wednesday carried out urgent rescue and relief operations in the remote region of Chaten and evacuated 33 stranded people, including two US nationals, from the remote and rain-battered Chaten region of North Sikkim.
In a statement, the Indian Air Force earlier said, 'In response to the devastating landslides in Sikkim, Indian Air Force Mi-17 helicopters rapidly launched Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Ops -- dropping relief supplies, inserting NDRF teams, and evacuating 33 stranded individuals, including two US nationals, from the remote Chaten region.'
However, a prior operation to evacuate 113 stranded tourists from Lachen during the early hours had to be called off due to bad weather. An Mi-17 helicopter carrying nine National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel took off from Pakyong Airport , but was forced to return mid-air because of poor visibility near Mangan and Chaten. Southwest monsoons likely to reach Delhi, Chandigarh in next two days: IMD
New Delhi [India], June 22 (ANI): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday said that the southwest monsoon is likely to reach Delhi, Chandigarh and parts of Haryana, western Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Jammu and Kashmir in the next two days, i.e. by June 24, adding that the conditions are favourable for further advancement of southwest monsoons. The weather department added that the southwest monsoon has advanced over most parts of Himachal Pradesh, the entire Ladakh and Kashmir, most parts of Jammu, and some parts of Punjab. As per the IMD, 'The southwest monsoon has advanced further over most parts of Himachal Pradesh, the entire Ladakh and Kashmir, most parts of Jammu, and some parts of Punjab.' 'Conditions are favourable for the Southwest monsoon to advance further over the remaining parts of the North Arabian Sea, some more parts of Rajasthan and Punjab, some parts of Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi, and the remaining parts of West Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu during the next two days,' it added. The weather department has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall likely over northwest India, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Konkan and Goa during June 22 - 26 with isolated extremely heavy rainfall over Gujarat on June 22 and over Madhya Pradesh on June 23-24 respectively. The IMD added that heavy to very heavy rainfall likely to continue over Northeast India during next 3 days and isolated heavy rainfall thereafter for subsequent 4 days. According to the IMD, in the last 24 hours, as of 8.30 am on June 22, heavy to very heavy rainfall was recorded at some places with extremely heavy falls at isolated places over eastern Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat. It added that heavy to very heavy rainfall was recorded at isolated places over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Bihar, West Uttar Pradesh, eastern Rajasthan; heavy rainfall at isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Gangetic West Bengal, Uttarakhand, eastern Uttar Pradesh, western Rajasthan, western Madhya Pradesh, Konkan and Goa,coastal Karnataka, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam. Thunderstorm accompanied with squally/gusty winds with speed 60-120 kmph at isolated places over Marathawada; 40-60 kmph at isolated places over Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Gangetic West Bengal were also recorded. Monsoon hits Himachal early; IMD warns of rain in Delhi, Maharashtra, Jharkhand
The southwest monsoon has arrived in some parts of Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Punjab. Conditions are favourable for further advancement of the monsoon over the remaining parts of the North Arabian Sea, more parts of Rajasthan and Punjab, parts of Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi, as well as the remaining areas of West Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu during the next two days, news agency ANI reported. The monsoon arrived early—five days ahead of its normal onset date of June 25 in Himachal Pradesh—and is expected to cover the entire hill state by Wednesday (June 25). With the early arrival, several parts of the state have already received rainfall, and the Meteorological Department has predicted heavy to very heavy rains across Himachal over the next 5 to 7 days. Speaking to news agency ANI, Shobhit Katiyar, Senior Scientist at the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Shimla, said, "On June 20, 2025, the southwest monsoon entered Himachal Pradesh. It has already covered districts like Kinnaur, Kullu, Sirmaur, Mandi, Lahaul-Spiti, and Shimla. The remaining districts will be covered by the monsoon in the next 2 to 3 days." "Usually, the monsoon arrives in Himachal by June 25, and in Shimla city by June 22. This year's arrival is a few days earlier, which is still considered within the normal range," he added. Meanwhile, the national capital is likely to witness light rain accompanied by strong surface winds, with the maximum temperature expected to hover around 37 degrees Celsius, according to the IMD. The weather agency has also issued a fresh warning for very heavy rainfall over isolated areas of northwestern Jharkhand, with heavy rain expected in parts of north-central and northeastern districts over the next few days. Mumbai and many parts of Maharashtra are likely to see more intense monsoon rains from June 22, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said. Yellow and orange alerts have been issued for several districts. Mumbai is already dealing with waterlogging and traffic jams, and the coming showers may make things worse. According to the IMD, areas including Konkan, Goa, and the hilly regions of central Maharashtra are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall between June 22 and 25. Air India Express flight to Patna diverted to Varanasi due to bad weather
New Delhi [India], June 22 (ANI): An Air India Express flight from Delhi to Patna was diverted to Varanasi on Saturday due to adverse weather conditions. An airline spokesperson said that Air India Express flight IX1014 from Delhi (DEL) to Patna (PAT) on 21 June 2025 was diverted to Varanasi (VNS). 'Due to adverse weather conditions, one of our flights to Patna was diverted briefly to Varanasi. When the weather improved, the flight resumed and landed in Patna. We regret the delay caused by circumstances beyond our control,' the spokesperson said. Earlier in the week, on Monday, another Air India Express flight from Delhi to Ranchi had to return to the national capital shortly after takeoff due to a suspected technical issue. The airline said the Boeing 737 Max 8 plane was scheduled to land at Ranchi's Birsa Munda Airport at 6:20 PM. After the inspection and clearance, the aircraft continued its normal operations. 'One of our flights returned to Delhi after take-off due to a suspected technical issue. Post inspections and clearance, the aircraft continued scheduled operations. We regret the inconvenience,' the airline spokesperson said. Earlier on Friday, Air India cancelled several international and domestic flights due to increased aircraft checks, bad weather, and airspace restrictions. Affected flights include services between Dubai, Chennai, Delhi, Melbourne, Pune, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, and Mumbai. According to an Air India's statement, 'Air India's international flights AI906 from Dubai to Chennai; AI308 from Delhi to Melbourne; AI309 from Melbourne to Delhi; AI2204 from Dubai to Hyderabad and domestic flights AI874 from Pune to Delhi; AI456 from Ahmedabad to Delhi; AI-2872 from Hyderabad to Mumbai and AI571 from Chennai to Mumbai have been cancelled due to enhanced maintenance and operational reasons.' The airline has offered full refunds or free rescheduling and is helping passengers with alternate travel plans. 'We regret the inconvenience caused to passengers. Our colleagues on ground are making alternative arrangements for them to fly to their respective destinations at the earliest. Full refunds on cancellation or complimentary rescheduling has been offered to passengers,' it said. (ANI)
