MLA urges Minister to begin water supply works to Peruru project
Vijayawada: Raptadu MLA Paritala Sunitha has formally appealed to Minister for Water Resources Nimmala Ramanaidu to initiate the process of supplying water from the Handri-Neeva canal system to the Upper Penna (Peruru) Project, a key irrigation initiative in the Raptadu constituency.
In a courtesy meeting at the Minister's camp office in Vijayawada, MLA Sunitha discussed several pressing developmental issues related to her constituency. She emphasized the urgent need to commence works on the Peruru Project, which have been pending due to unresolved land acquisition issues. She urged the Minister to expedite the acquisition process and to ensure compensation for farmers who had previously given up their lands for the project.
She also requested approval for distributary canals under the Handri-Neeva project, aimed at irrigating 1.10 lakh acres as per government plans. She submitted estimates amounting to 17 crore for these works and sought necessary administrative approvals.
Additionally, she proposed the construction of a road and bridge over the Pandameru stream, requesting ₹4.90 crore in funding. Other requests included repair funds for the Kanaganapalli irrigation tank, which was damaged in last year's heavy rains, and financial support for building a protection wall at Nadimivanka.
Minister Ramanaidu responded positively, assuring that these matters were already under review. He said he would issue immediate instructions to concerned officials and also promised to discuss the Peruru Project water supply works with Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu to ensure prompt implementation. This meeting signifies a proactive push by MLA Sunitha for critical irrigation infrastructure development in the drought-prone Raptadu region.

India and Israel almost destroyed Pakistan's nuclear programme until..., Netanyahu was...
(Representational image: freepik) New Delhi: A few days back, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma alleged that the Congress made a 'historic blunder' in the 1980s by allowing Pakistan to become a nuclear power as he claimed that intelligence from R&AW had confirmed uranium enrichment activity at Pakistan's Kahuta facility and Israel had offered operational support, including intel and joint strike planning. The then Prime minister Indira Gandhi initially approved the aerial attack on Pakistan's nuclear plants but called off the operation fearing global repercussions. Later, Rajiv Gandhi abandoned the plan in favour of diplomacy under foreign pressure. Pakistan's Kahuta facility During the late 1970s, Pakistan was rapidly advancing its uranium enrichment programme at Kahuta, near Rawalpindi under then-military ruler General Zia-ul-Haq. Pakistan decided to start its nuclear programme after the humiliating defeat to India in the 1971 war under the then Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. They selected Kahuta for establishing their nuclear weapons plant and for uranium enrichment centrifuges. The key part was played by A.Q. Khan. India's intelligence agency R&AW confirmed Kahuta's role in producing weapons-grade uranium. It was during the early 1980s, The joint Israel-India operation Israel also learned about Pakistan's nuclear ambition and presented to India a proposal to carry out a joint airstrike to destroy the Kahuta nuclear facility. For this, Israel would fly its F-15 and F-16 fighter jets into Indian airspace and use Indian air bases in Jamnagar, Gujarat and Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir for the assault. Indian Air Force's Jaguar deep-strike jets would support the mission. Why did Israel make this offer? Israel's offer to destroy Pakistan's Kahuta nuclear facility came in the wake of its fear of a nuclear weapon falling into the hands of its enemy countries like Libya or Iran who had close ties with Pakistan. Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin even wrote to UK PM Margaret Thatcher in 1979 warning of the threat. Why was the operation aborted? According to reports, Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was inclined to accept the Israeli proposal but the mission was ultimately called off due to domestic and geopolitical reasons, especially the Khalistani movement in Punjab under Bhindranwale. One more factor that played a big role was threat of Pakistan's retaliation which could have led to a direct war. What happened in May 1998? Pakistan became a nuclear power in May 1998 when it conducted five nuclear tests in the Chagai Hills of Balochistan Province. Benjamin Netanyahu was the Israeli Prime Minister at that time. Pakistan had been working on its nuclear agenda under Project-706, the codename of a research and development programme to develop Pakistan's nuclear weapons. Project-706 was started by Pakistani Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto in 1974 after India, under the leadership of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, conducted its first nuclear tests in May 1974.

Jagan played politics even with children's education: MLA Sunitha
Kurnool: Raptadu MLA Paritala Sunitha launched a scathing attack on former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, accusing him of politicizing children's education. She referred to Jagan as a 'psycho' for allegedly using students for political publicity during his tenure. Speaking at the Vidya Mitra School Kit distribution programme held at the Zilla Parishad High School in Raptadu, Sunitha criticized the previous YSRCP government for printing the Jagan's photographs on school kits like bags and belts. In contrast, she praised the current TDP-led government for using the images of great visionaries such as Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on the kits, saying, 'This is about inspiration, not promotion.' On her arrival at the school, students and staff gave MLA Sunitha a warm welcome. She paid floral tributes to the statues of Saraswati Devi and Dr. Radhakrishnan, and participated in the celebrations following the disbursal of 15,000 under the 'Talli ki Vandhanam' scheme to eligible mothers of students. The event featured milk abhishekam (milk anointing) to portraits of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, and Education Minister Nara Lokesh in honor of their contributions to education. Sunitha personally handed over the Vidya Mitra Kits to students and inspected the school's infrastructure, interacting with both teachers and students about their needs. Highlighting the scale of the initiative, she stated that 3,000 students in Raptadu mandal alone were given Vidya Mitra kits. Across Andhra Pradesh, 36 lakh students are receiving these kits, with a budget allocation of 950 crore. She further noted that under the 'Talli ki Vandhanam' program, 6.5 crore was distributed to 5,000 mothers in Raptadu, while 8,800 crore has been sanctioned for 68 lakh beneficiaries statewide. In the first phase, 7,200 crore was already disbursed to 55 lakh beneficiaries. Slamming YSRCP leaders for 'politicizing even small incidents' post-defeat, she cited an example of how an incident involving the abuse of a girl was repeatedly politicized for mileage instead of offering solace.
