Governor highlights govt commitment to empowering women
KUWAIT: Ahmadi Governor Sheikh Humoud Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah reaffirmed on Tuesday the political leadership's firm commitment to empowering Kuwaiti women and supporting their contributions across all sectors to strengthen their rights and ensure their active participation in national development. Speaking to KUNA during a celebration organized by the 'Fazaa Al-Dahiya' team in cooperation with Kuwait Oil Company (KOC), Sheikh Humoud said the event reflects appreciation for the efforts and achievements of Kuwaiti women, who play a vital role in building society and advancing the nation. The event was attended by a number of supporting and sponsoring institutions.
Sheikh Humoud noted that Kuwaiti women have stood shoulder to shoulder with men during the most challenging times in defense of the homeland. Today, he said, they are indispensable partners in the ongoing process of nation-building and development. He pointed out that Kuwaiti women have excelled in various fields, holding supervisory, leadership, and judicial positions, actively participating in decision-making, and making significant strides in the private sector. As a result, they have earned advanced positions on both the regional and international stages, and many now rank among the world's most influential women.
The governor praised the efforts of KOC and the 'Fazaa Al-Dahiya' team for shedding light on the accomplishments of Kuwaiti women. He stressed Ahmadi Governorate's readiness to support any initiative that promotes the pioneering role of Kuwaiti women and other active elements in society. Chief Executive Officer of Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) Wadha Al-Khateeb also addressed the gathering, describing the honor bestowed upon her during the event as a tribute to all Kuwaiti women working in the oil sector. Al-Khateeb emphasized that the contributions of Kuwaiti women predate the discovery of oil, and their impact on national development has been longstanding and significant.

She affirmed that Kuwaiti women have made a notable mark in the oil industry, where their rise to leadership roles is remarkable compared to regional and international standards. Al-Khateeb said these achievements reflect the state's confidence in the abilities of both its sons and daughters, demonstrated through the equal opportunities afforded in education and career development based on merit and competence.
She highlighted the importance of the political leadership's continued support for women, which has enabled them to prove their capabilities and contribute meaningfully to national progress, in alignment with Kuwait Vision 2035 — the country's roadmap for sustainable development and global competitiveness. Head of the 'Fazaa Al-Dahiya' team, Sarah Al-Azmi, said the celebration represents a valuable opportunity to empower Kuwaiti women and spotlight their pioneering roles, especially as they continue to attain advanced positions across all sectors. She explained that the initiative falls under the team's 'quality of life' community development axis.
Al-Azmi outlined the celebration's program, which includes three key sessions: 'National Identity,' aimed at enhancing patriotism and strengthening family roles; 'Life Balance,' focusing on empowering women within their families to shape the future; and 'Creating Generations,' a national environmental initiative in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Environment Public Authority, and Ministry of Awqaf, which introduces 24 standards to promote a healthy and sustainable environment. She concluded by expressing appreciation for the continued support of the leadership and sponsoring bodies, underlining the team's commitment to empowering Kuwaiti women and enabling them to achieve greater accomplishments. — KUNA

Kuwait marks 64th Independence Day
State has made many accomplishments at many levels over the past six decades KUWAIT: Kuwait on Thursday celebrated its 64th independence anniversary, a joyous occasion that marked a new chapter in the northern Gulf state, which took its first steps in the journey of development. The late Amir Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah signed the Declaration of Independence with the British Chief Political Resident in the Arabian Gulf Sir George Middleton, ending the protectorate agreement and paving the way for a journey of development. Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem said: 'On this day of our beloved nation ... On this day we move from one stage to another stage of history, and we fold a page from the past ... and open a new page through this agreement through which Kuwait earned its complete independence and full sovereignty.' Three years after the declaration, a decree was signed on May 18, 1964 merging the national day with the day in which Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem assumed office, making it February 25. Celebrations have been held on that day since 1965. Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem took carefully measured steps for this day since assuming office in 1950, securing independence and paving the way for adopting a constitution. He signed a decree on August 26, 1961 to hold elections of the Constituent Assembly, mandated with writing the constitution. The 183-article constitution was completed in nine months, and it laid the foundations for a sturdy democratic regime, putting the Kuwaiti people on a path of progress and prosperity. On Sept 7, 1961, an Amiri decree was signed specifying the shape and colors of the Kuwaiti flag, the very first flag to be flown following independence. Kuwait has made many accomplishments at many levels over the past 64 years, meeting the aspirations of citizens, playing a major role in regional and international issues, and becoming a global humanitarian center. Kuwait became member of the Arab League on July 20, 1961. The UN Security Council began considering on Nov 30, 1961 Kuwait's application to join the United Nations, and on May 14, 1963, the application was approved and Kuwait became the UN's 111th member. The 15-year reign of Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem, who was dubbed the 'Father of Independence' and 'Father of the Constitution', was peppered with achievements. At that time, Kuwait accomplished 43 laws and legislation, including the nationality law, monetary law, passports law and the organization of government departments. New departments were established to cope with the development of the nation, like public works, health, publication, knowledge, municipality, post and telephone, electricity and water, social affairs, awqaf and radio and television. Kuwait remains on a steady path of preventative diplomacy, crisis mediation and efforts contributing to solving outstanding regional and international issues. — KUNA

Ministers assure key essentials abundant, call to avoid hoarding
KUWAIT: Minister of Social Affairs Amthal Al-Huwailah and Minister of Commerce and Industry Khalifa Al-Ajeel hold a meeting to follow up on the readiness of cooperative societies and stocks of goods. - KUNA KUWAIT: The ministers of social affairs and commerce and industry on Thursday reiterated that essential commodities are available in large quantities and called on the public not to hoard food products. Amthal Al-Huwailah and Khalifa Al-Ajeel said after a meeting to assess the situation and coordination between the two ministries that 'the strategic stock of essential and basic commodities is available in sufficient quantities and that coordination between the two ministries is ongoing to ensure its continuous availability'. The two sides called on citizens and residents not to stock foodstuff or hoard them at home to avoid the risk of spoilage or improper storage, adding there is nothing to worry about as commodities are available for all. The meeting was held within the framework of activating the national contingency plan and assessing field inspections and visits to cooperative societies to ensure their complete readiness amid an intensification in the fighting between neighboring Iran and the Zionist entity. The two ministers also called on local companies and factories to accord priority in supplies to cooperative societies because they are concerned with providing and distributing foodstuff and other commodities, adding that cooperative societies work around the clock to guarantee stability in the market and meet people's dmands. Since the outbreak of hostilities, almost all ministries and departments have been making necessary preparations to ensure that the country is not affected by the fallout of the war. Meanwhile, the supreme commission for citizenship announced on Thursday that it has recommended revoking the Kuwaiti citizenship of several people, but did not release the exact number. The commission however said the revocations were due to holding third-country citizenship, obtaining citizenship by fraud and for the sake of the country's interests. Kuwait has so far revoked the citizenship of over 37,000 Kuwaitis, most of them foreign women who were naturalized after getting married to Kuwaiti men. The commission's decision becomes effective after its approval by the Cabinet.

Kuwaitis evacuated from Iran begin arriving home
KUWAIT: The first group of Kuwaiti citizens evacuated from Iran arrived safely in Kuwait early Saturday morning, as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues its full-scale emergency plan to secure the return of nationals stranded in the neighboring country. The flight, operated directly by Kuwait Airways, landed at Terminal 4 of Kuwait International Airport just after midnight, carrying 334 Kuwaiti men and women. The passengers had been transported overland to the capital of Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, where they boarded the evacuation flight. Deputy Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah received the returnees at the airport. The evacuation is part of Kuwait's proactive strategy to protect its people in light of the escalating conflict between Iran and the Zionist entity, who have traded missiles for nine days. No injuries have been reported among Kuwaiti nationals in Iran since the start of Zionist airstrikes last week, which have killed at least 430 people according to Iranian authorities. 'We thank the governments of Iran and Turkmenistan for facilitating the safe transfer of our citizens," said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
