Thief steals hundreds of dollars worth of toys by shoving them down her pants
CCTV footage showed the shocking moment a brazen thief steals around $800 worth of Jellycats by stuffing them down her pants.
The huge haul of Jellycat soft toys was taken from St Peter's Garden Centre, south west of Birmingham, England, after a woman stuffed a 'significant amount' of the stock into her trousers and bags.
Footage filmed on June 7, 2025, showed a woman helping herself to items as she walked through the store, casually adjusting her pants as she went.
Jellycats are uniquely shaped soft toys that are hugely popular right now, thanks to their quirky designs and super-soft material.
Over the past year, the brand has experienced significant growth in popularity.
William Blake, managing director of St Peter's Garden Centre, said: 'We were deeply disappointed by the incident, where a significant amount of stock – over $800 worth of Jellycat toys – was stolen from our store.
'As an independent, family-run business, every loss impacts not just our shelves but the hardworking team behind the scenes.
'Our staff work tirelessly to create a warm and welcoming environment for all visitors, and it's disheartening when that is taken advantage of.
'We're co-operating fully with local authorities and we'd like to thank our customers for the response to the video and all their continued support.'
West Mercia Police said: 'We received a report of theft from St Peter's Garden Centre on June 11.
'Inquiries are ongoing.'
In Australia, stores such as David Jones stock Jellycats, with the department store seeing a massive uptick in sales in previous years.
'We've seen strong demand for the brand and an increase in sales in not only their iconic bunny which they are best known for but also more niche/unique styles,' a David Jones spokesperson told news.com.au last month.
'There has also been a noticeable shift in the consumer who is buying this product, traditionally bought for children we have seen demand from Gen Z thanks to social media driving the trend among this group.'
It comes as Aussies have gone wild for the Labubu craze, a furry plushie featuring a bizarre grin and sharp teeth.
Designed by Hong Kong-born artist Kasing Lung, the product is sold by Chinese toy company Pop Mart following a collaboration with Lung on his story series book The Monsters, released in 2015.
While the Labubu hit the market in Asia in 2019, the toy only took off after Blackpink's Lisa, a popular K-pop singer, was spotted with a $32 keychain-version of the doll attached to her handbag in April 2024.
And in just 12 months, the whole world has become hooked, including Aussies.

Brown was bailed on the condition that he surrender his passport if he was not travelling on tour. His gigs kicked off in Amsterdam on June 8, with his first UK performance in Manchester taking place on June 15. He played in Cardiff's Principality Stadium last night to a sellout crowd. Brown is then scheduled to play at London's Tottenham Hotspur Stadium tomorrow and Sunday. Adele Kelly, the Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS London North, said: 'We have authorised the Metropolitan Police to charge Chris Brown with one count of grievous bodily harm, contrary to section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861. 'The alleged incident occurred in London on 19 February 2023. 'He will have his first court appearance on Friday 16 May at Manchester Magistrates' Court. 'The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against this defendant are active and that he has the right to a fair trial. 'It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.'

Metro drivers told to hide money when within Glenorchy bus mall
Tasmania's government-owned bus company has instructed drivers to hide their coin trays when within a major bus mall in Hobart after a series of thefts. Police this week laid charges as a result of investigations into multiple incidents. Police allege two youths stole coins from the money trays of Metro buses on multiple occasions. They also allege after getting off the bus, the youths removed an emergency hammer and damaged a bus window. No one was injured during the incidents. A 13-year-old from Risdon Vale and a 14-year-old from Lutana have been charged over several incidents. In a safety alert issued to Hobart drivers on Wednesday seen by the ABC, Metro addressed "ongoing incidents in the Glenorchy bus mall", instructing drivers between 4-8pm to "pull over at a stop prior to entering the mall" and "remove their cash trays and store them out of sight" while within the mall. The notice also said fares including cash or GreenCards should not be collected while in the bus mall during the given times, and fares could be reversed if customers tap on by mistake. The notice is valid until Sunday. In a statement, Metro Tasmania said it took a risk-based approach when deciding to implement safety controls. "Metro believes that this temporary safety measure is appropriate given the recent incidents in the Glenorchy mall." Rail Tram and Bus Union (RTBU) state secretary Byron Cubit said not enough was being done to improve driver safety. In 2023, the Rockliff government started a pilot program to introduce transit officers on buses, but Mr Cubit said they were never delivered permanently. Mr Cubit said the government's planned implementation of transit officers needed improvement. "When the Liberal government committed to transit officers, they would be privately employed and they would not have that power to detain. The union is also worried about a half-price fare scheme which is soon to come to an end. "If adult fares double on July 1st, the bus drivers are going to cop the brunt of frustration from passengers," Mr Cubit said. Transport Minister Eric Abetz said the RTBU was "central to the security screen trials, being heavily involved in consultation, and is aware that they are being rolled out as quickly as possible". "Screens are being installed as we speak, and have already protected drivers on the job," Mr Abetz said. In May, Tasmania Police unveiled Taskforce Respect, a community campaign involving high-visibility patrols in Glenorchy and surrounds. The task force was established in the wake of a string of incidents involving large groups of youths causing disturbances in the area. Glenorchy Police Inspector Jason Klug said businesses had reported a significant drop in anti-social behaviour while the task force has been active. "Whilst at the moment, its focus is on anti-social behaviour and retail crime, the task force is there and able to adapt to any crime trends or any community concerns that we see.

Chinese student gets life in UK jail for ‘campaign of rape'
WARNING: Distressing content A Chinese postgraduate student convicted of drugging and raping 10 women in the UK and China, and suspected of having attacked more, was on Thursday sentenced to life with a minimum term of 24 years. Police in London say they have evidence to suggest he may have targeted more than 50 other women. Serial rapist Zhenhao Zou, 28 – described in court as 'calculated and predatory' – targeted young Chinese women whom he invited to his London flat for drinks or to study before drugging and attacking them. Zou filmed nine of the rapes with hidden or handheld cameras, but only three of the 10 victims have ever been identified. Sentencing him at Inner London Crown Court, Judge Rosina Cottage said there was 'no doubt that you planned and executed a campaign of rape' that had caused 'devastating and long term effects'. To the world he appeared 'well to do, ambitious and charming' but this was a mask hiding a 'sexual predator', she said. He treated his victims 'callously' as 'sex toys' for his own gratification, and his desire to assert 'power and control over women' meant that he would be a 'risk for an indefinite period', she added. Zou, wearing a dark suit and glasses, listened impassively in the dock to the sentence via a translator. He will serve a minimum of 22 years in jail, after accounting for time already spent in custody. The former engineering student at University College London was found guilty by a jury in March of 28 offences including 11 counts of rape – with two of the counts relating to one woman – three counts of voyeurism and one of false imprisonment. He was found guilty of raping three women in London and seven in China between 2019 and 2023. He was also convicted of three counts of possessing butanediol – an industrial solvent – with intent to commit a sexual offence and 10 counts of possession of an extreme pornographic image. 'Prolific' rapist Victims told the sentencing hearing in impact statements of the psychological damage they suffered including nightmares, self harm and a sense of despair and isolation. One recalled 'wandering like a trapped animal trying to find an exit' after she was attacked. 'What happened that night is etched into my soul forever,' she said, adding that Zou's family was 'very powerful in China' and she feared he would 'seek revenge'. After the sentence, Saira Pike of the Crown Prosecution Service described Zou as a 'serial rapist and a danger to women'. 'His life sentence reflects the heinous acts and harm he caused to women and the danger he posed to society.' Analysis of footage and web chats showed the former student's 'meticulous planning and the horrifying execution of his crimes'. And Pike paid tribute to the 'courageous women' who came forward to report his 'horrific crimes' and whose evidence – combined with his own videos – helped secure his conviction and life sentence. Since he was convicted, and following an international appeal by UK police, some 24 women had come forward to say they might have been sexually assaulted by Zou. London's Met police have said they have evidence to suggest he may have targeted more than 50 other women and urged possible victims to come forward, adding that he had also studied in Belfast in Northern Ireland in 2017. 'Our investigation remains open and we continue to appeal to anyone who may think they have been a victim of Zou,' said Commander Kevin Southworth of the Metropolitan Police.
