AMMAN —The Jordanian Pro League took a dramatic turn this weekend as Wihdat edged Hussein Irbid 2-1, handing them their first defeat of the season and tightening the title race with only two rounds remaining.
Hussein Irbid, unbeaten all season, knew that a win would crown them champions. Wihdat, however, had other plans determined to keep their title hopes alive and prove they're still in the fight.
The match opened with high intensity, and in the 36thminute Gueye broke the deadlock for Wihdat, calmly finishing off a well- constructed move. But Hussein Irbid responded almost immediately. Sisa equalised just three minutes later, reacting quickest inside the box to make it 1-1.
Both teams continued to push for a winner, but it was Wihdat who found the breakthrough. In the 82nd minute, 23-year-old Mohannad Semreen latched onto a loose ball near the edge of the area and fired home a low strike past the keeper, sealing the victory.
Though Wihdat secured a crucial three points, the result also marked a historic moment: Hussein Irbid's first league loss this season, after a dominant run of form.

At Amman International Stadium Hussein Irbid booked their spot with a narrow 1-0 victory over 21-time Cup winners Faisali. The decisive moment came in the 75th minute when Sisa, a former Faisali forward, found the back of the net with a clinical finish, capitalising on a defensive lapse to stun his former club. The match was closely fought, with both sides struggling to create clear chances. Faisali pushed forward in search of an equaliser, but Hussein Irbid held firm defensively to preserve their lead and secure a historic victory. In the other semifinal at King Abdullah II stadium, Wihdat edged Al Ahli 5-4 in a penalty shootout after a goalless draw. The shootout was decided when M. AMMAN — Thursday evening will see Faisali vs Hussein and Wihdat vs Ahli at 7:00 pm in the semifinals of the Jordan Cup —the last event on the 2024/25 season football calendar. Faisali and Wihdat aim to reach the final to have a shot at one of the season's titles after Hussein retained the Pro League crown and won Jordan Super Cup while Salt won their first ever title when they snatched the Jordan Football Association Shield. Playing at Amman International Stadium, Hussein will be eyeing their first Jordan Cup title. They are led by Faisali'sex-coach Ahmad Hayel who was dismissed in the final weeks to join Hussein with whom he won his first title as a Pro league club coach owing their win to a last minute draw of Ramtha vs Wihdat who were leading the league by one point ahead of the final day of the competition. On the other hand, Faisali's veteran player and coach Jamal Abu Abed will strive to snatch a title for his club with the aim of competing again regionally next season after Hussein and Wihdat exited the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Champions League (ACL) Two in the Round of 16 this year.
