Arab states decry Israel's strikes on Iran as threat to stability

Qatar described the airstrikes as 'a blatant breach' of Iran's sovereignty and international norms, warning of the danger posed by continued aggression to regional security and diplomatic efforts. It called on the international community to act urgently and reaffirmed its rejection of violence.

Jordan labeled the attack 'a clear violation of a UN member state's sovereignty,' urging the UN Security Council to act swiftly to prevent further escalation.

Lebanon criticized the Israeli strikes for 'targeting all efforts to preserve regional stability' and urged the international community to act immediately to prevent Israel from achieving its objectives.

Budget gridlock: Iraq unlikely to submit 2025 tables amid fiscal strains

Hussein Munis, a senior committee member, told Shafaq News that the delay is because of 'severe financial deficits, unstable revenue streams, the absence of a coherent economic vision, and the looming legislative elections.' 'The deficit in the budget law has reached nearly 80T IQD (~ $61B),' Munis said. 'This puts the government in an extremely difficult position as it lacks a structured economic strategy to finalize and submit the tables to Parliament.' Earlier, fellow committee member Muin al-Kadhimi anticipated that the budget tables might reach Parliament by early July. At the time, he noted that the Finance Ministry had reviewed its comments on the tables and submitted them to the Cabinet, which was expected to issue a final position. 'The ministry is preparing the final budget tables after receiving feedback from the Cabinet,' al-Kadhimi stated, adding that the draft might be sent to Parliament following cabinet approval. Observers warn that further delays in passing Iraq's 2025 federal budget will directly impact public salaries, infrastructure projects, and essential services. With over half the year gone, some analysts argue that the budget has become a political bargaining tool, especially as elections approach. 'The budget has turned into a political weapon during electoral seasons,' one analyst said, describing the protracted process as 'a tool for leverage between rival blocs—often at the expense of Iraqi citizens.' Legal experts, meanwhile, stress that failure to disburse funds allocated in a ratified budget law could constitute administrative misconduct. They note that legal action could be pursued against institutions obstructing lawful implementation.

Al-Hol exodus: +950 Iraqis set to return home
Shafaq News/ Iraq is preparing to repatriate its largest group of citizens from Syria's Al-Hol camp, security sources revealed to Shafaq News on Saturday. The group includes around 250 families, or nearly 950 individuals, many of them women and children. The transfer was originally scheduled for last week but was postponed due to regional instability following heightened tensions between Iran and Israel. With conditions now stabilized, preparations for the operation have resumed. Earlier today, around 30 Iraqi buses crossed into Syrian territory ahead of the transfer, which is expected to begin on Sunday morning. Notably, Al-Hol camp, located in Syria's northeastern Al-Hasakah province, hosts tens of thousands of individuals, including relatives of suspected Islamic State members. Since 2021, Iraq has carried out repatriation efforts that have brought back more than 15,000 citizens. Returnees are initially processed at Jadaa camp, where they undergo psychological and social rehabilitation programs before reintegration into their communities. The program has drawn criticism from some segments of the local population, particularly in Nineveh, where families of Islamic State victims have expressed concerns over the return of displaced individuals from Al-Hol. Two major repatriation operations were carried out earlier in 2025. In one, 241 families—totaling 865 individuals—were returned under increased security measures. Another, in May, involved the transfer of 223 families, or 832 individuals, from Al-Hol to Iraq. More than 12,600 Iraqi nationals remain at the camp, awaiting future repatriation.
