KUALA LUMPUR - The High Court today allowed an application by Toh Puan Na'imah Abdul Khalid, the widow of the late Tun Daim Zainuddin, for a stay of its ex parte order to freeze assets belonging to her and her family worth GBP132 million in London by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
The assets comprise two commercial buildings located at St Mary Axe and One Crown Court; three luxury residences at Bryanston Square, Bryanston Mews and Lancaster Gate; two residential units in Gloucester Place; and a bank account at CAF Bank Limited (UK), allegedly held under The Ilham Foundation.
Judge Datuk Azhar Abdul Hamid granted the stay after allowing Na'imah's application, who was represented by counsel Datuk Dr Gurdial Singh Nijar.
The court fixed July 9 to hear Na'imah's application to intervene in the main proceedings relating to the freezing of the assets.
On June 3, the same court had allowed the MACC's ex-parte application to freeze the said assets under Section 53 of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLATFPUAA 2001). Toh Puan Na'imah Abdul Khalid - BERNAMA FILE PIX
In a separate High Court today, Judge K. Muniandy fixed Aug 1 to hear Na'imah's application to intervene in MACC's separate ex-parte application to freeze 12 investment accounts in Singapore, allegedly owned by Na'imah, her family and associates, with a total value over RM544 million.
Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Wan Nur Iman Wan Mohd Afzal requested the court to allow MACC's ex-parte application to freeze the said assets, following findings that the assets had not been declared.
"The total value of these movable assets exceeds RM544 million, consisting of investments in USD and pound sterling. Therefore, we request that this application be heard, and these assets be frozen to prevent the risk of disposal,' she said.
On May 22, MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said eight investigation papers were opened based on new information received from external agencies regarding the assets owned by Daim, his family and proxies.
Azam said the latest information indicated that the assets owned by Daim, his family and associates were not declared to MACC during the 2023 investigation. - BERNAMA

Police Bust Cocaine Vape Syndicate Targeting International Market

KUALA LUMPUR, June 23 (Bernama) -- An attempt by an international syndicate to smuggle cocaine in the form of vape cartridges through Malaysia was uncovered when the police managed to arrest four individuals and seized nearly 5,000 cartridges, worth RM 7.2 million, in a raid in Ampang Jaya last Thursday. Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) acting director Datuk Mat Zani @ Mohd Salahuddin Che Ali said the suspects comprise a 57-year-old local man and three Singaporean men, aged between 25 and 46 years old. He said that during the raid at around 11.45 am, the NCID team intercepted a Toyota Vellfire in the parking area of a hotel in the capital and found 10 boxes, containing 4,958 vape cartridges suspected to contain cocaine liquid, with an estimated weight of 9,420 millilitres (ml). "The drugs in question are estimated to be worth RM7.2 million, and the investigation found that the syndicate used Malaysia as a transit point before shipping them via air courier services to international markets," he said at a press conference in Bukit Aman today. According to Mat Zani, initial investigations found that the syndicate involved, believed to have been active since March, rented an Airbnb condominium unit in Ampang for RM300 per day as a location for processing and packaging cocaine cartridges for the overseas market. "Each vape cartridge containing 1.9 ml of cocaine liquid can be sold at a price of around RM1,500 per unit in the international market, considering that this type of cocaine is difficult to obtain in the Southeast Asian region due to its high price and is usually used by the elite," he said. He said further investigations found that one of the suspects tested positive for ketamine, while the other two had criminal records related to drug cases. "In addition to the drug seizures, the police also confiscated various items worth RM2,975 for asset forfeiture actions, bringing the total value of the confiscated and seized items in this operation to RM7.29 million. "This is the first case of cocaine seizure in the form of vape cartridges detected in Malaysia, and we believe this modus operandi is used to deceive the authorities and facilitate delivery abroad," he added.

MCMC, PDRM Reaffirm Commitment To Combat Online Child Sexual Exploitation

PUTRAJAYA, June 23 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) have reiterated their joint commitment to combat the crime of online child sexual exploitation through continuous enforcement and community awareness education. They said in a joint statement today that a total of 1,501 offensive posts involving children were identified up to June 15, 2025, with 94 per cent of them successfully taken down as a result of cooperation with digital platform providers and following public complaints. They added that through special operations, such as "Op Pedo', a total of 13 individuals were arrested and more than 40,000 child sexual abuse material (CSAM) seized from several states. According to the statement, the dissemination, storage or commercialisation of child sexual exploitation content is an offence under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588), which provides for a fine of up to RM1 million, five years' imprisonment or both. At the same time, the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 provides for legal action to be taken against any party who produces, disseminates, buys, sells, shares or possesses such related materials. As a preventive measure, the MCMC has also intensified its Safe Internet Campaign (KIS), which targets students, parents and the community, including an emphasis on the prohibition on the use of social media accounts by children aged below 13. The MCMC and PDRM urged all parties, including parents, educators and internet users, to cooperate in efforts to curb this crime.
