Former Oklahoma coach pokes fun at Texas college programs
Former Oklahoma Sooners head coach Bob Stoops has gotten off to a hot start in early stages of the 2025 season in the United Football League. After defeating the San Antonio Brahmas in their first game, Stoops' Arlington Renegades took down the Houston Roughnecks over the weekend to improve to 2-0.
After the game, which moved Stoops to 2-0 against the other UFL teams in Texas, the legendary head coach was asked about his level of pride in becoming the "UFL Texas State Champion" and getting his second win of the season.
"Oh, you can't get an Oklahoma former head coach to say it," Stoops said with a laugh. "I had my share of wins against Texas teams ... anyway, it's just good to be 2-0, and I didn't even process that it was two of the Texas teams, but so be it, you know. I'm just gonna try and win another one next week."
Stoops' lighthearted jab at some old Big 12 Conference rivals is accurate, as the former OU coach had plenty of success in his heyday against teams like Texas, Baylor, Texas Tech, Texas A&M and TCU, among others. He had a winning record against each of the programs from the Lone Star State, save for a 1-1 mark against Houston.
"Big Game Bob" posted an 11-7 record against the rival Longhorns and dominated the Big 12, winning 10 conference titles in 18 seasons. In the entirety of the league's existence (1996-present), teams from Texas have only claimed nine league titles.
Stoops' hot start in the UFL in 2025 could have him in line to chase down another spring football championship, which he also accomplished in 2023 in the XFL, also with the Renegades.

Jets training camp: Should lack of experience on special teams be a concern?
The New York Jets made changes on special teams last week. General manager Darren Mougey signed kicker Harrison Mevis and released Anders Carlson. As currently constructed, the Jets are slated to enter training camp without a kicker or punter that has played in a regular season game. That's certainly a risk. Mevis most recently played for the UFL's Birmingham Stallions. He was outstanding in the developmental league, connecting on 95.2 percent of his field-goal attempts during the 2025 season (20 of 21). Mevis showcased terrific leg strength by connecting on a 56-yard attempt and was also accurate enough to convert every kick within 50 yards. He signed with the Panthers as an undrafted free agent last year, but was waived during final cuts. Mevis will now compete at training camp with Caden Davis. The Jets signed Davis as an undrafted free agent in April. The former Texas A&M and Ole Miss placekicker was named a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award (best kicker in college football) and was invited to the 2025 Senior Bowl. The situation is similar at punter. It's ironic considering the Jets began last season with two of the oldest (Thomas Morstead and Greg Zuerlein) kickers and punters in the league. Austin McNamara and Kai Kroeger are battling for the punting job. McNamara signed with the Jets in March after competing for the Cincinnati Bengals' gig in training camp last year. Kroeger is a rookie undrafted free agent who punted at South Carolina for five seasons (2020-24). Furthermore, the Jets have an inexperienced special teams coach. Aaron Glenn appointed 35-year-old former NFL safety Chris Banjo. Coach Banjo enters the spotlight after spending just two seasons (2023-24) as an assistant special teams coach with the Denver Broncos. He'll be tasked with preparing inexperienced kickers and punters this offseason.

Mullings, Green earn OU's first individual national titles since 2009
Oklahoma men's track hadn't had an individual national champion since 2009. It got two on Saturday at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Discus thrower Ralford Mullings, ranked No. 2 in the country coming into the weekend, broke a 33-year NCAA championship meet record with a toss of 67.70m on his third attempt. He then broke that record with a throw of 69.31m on his final attempt to beat out world record holder Mykolas Alekna of Cal for the title. Advertisement It was the ninth-best throw ever in NCAA history. Then, triple jumper BJ Green secured another individual title with four jumps that would've each beaten out the other competitors at the event. His best attempt came on his final jump (16.81m) to become the second triple jump national champion in program history. He also earned All-American honors for the second time in his career. Meanwhile, teammate Floyd Whitaker finished second with his best jump coming in at 16.41m. He also earned First Team All-American honors for the first time in his career. The Sooners have a chance to secure at least one more individual national championship on Saturday with Pippi Lotta Enok competing in the heptathlon. As of Saturday she sat in first place with only one event left to go (800-meter run). Enok is looking to secure her second individual national title in the event.

Georgia Predicted to Land Touted Playmaker Days Before Decision
Georgia Predicted to Land Touted Playmaker Days Before Decision originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Georgia Bulldogs have three wide receivers committed in the 2026 recruiting class. Signs point to Georgia landing another commitment at the position this upcoming week. Advertisement On3's Jeremy Johnson wrote Thursday the Bulldogs are the favorites in the recruitment of four-star receiver Craig Dandridge. The coveted wideout will make his final college decision on June 26. "The four-star wide receiver has set a commitment date for June 26. The Bulldogs had Dandridge on campus in the first week of official visits," wrote Johnson. "The Bulldogs checked a lot of boxes for the Cambridge star. RPM favors the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs have a 35.6 percent chance of landing the four-star wideout." Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart© Corey Perrine/Florida Times-Union / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Over the last few days, Georgia's percentages appear to have dropped in the On3's Recruiting Prediction Machine. As of June 22, the Bulldogs hold a 30.9% chance of landing a commitment from Dandridge. Advertisement But Georgia is still in the lead by a significant margin. The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have the second-best odds in the RPM at 18.2%. The Oklahoma Sooners, Tennessee Volunteers and Stanford Cardinal round out the top five for Dandridge. The Clemson Tigers, Florida Gators and Vanderbilt Commodores are long shots. Landing Dandridge would be a significant recruiting win regardless, but it could be particularly key for the Bulldogs right now. Georgia's top 2026 receiver commit, Vance Spafford, may be wavering with his pledge. On3's Jake Rowe reported Friday that Spafford is "unlikely to sign with the Bulldogs" and could stay closer to home on the west coast. Advertisement The Bulldogs also have three-star receivers Brady Marchese and Ryan Mosley committed in the 2026 class. Dandridge is the No. 38 receiver and 26th-ranked Georgia prospect in the 2026 recruiting class according to the 247Sports composite rankings. The wideout is also the No. 237 overall recruit for 2026.
