Jon Jones walks out of interview over Tom Aspinall question: ‘You said something real wild'
Jon Jones ended an interview on Thursday when he was asked what it would 'take' for him to fight Tom Aspinall, a question he deemed 'wild'.
Jones has held the UFC heavyweight title since March 2023, while Aspinall picked up the interim belt in November of that year after 'Bones' suffered an injury. Despite each man having retained his version of the title since then, Jones continues to avoid committing to a fight with the Briton.
In fact, Aspinall this month insisted that the American has retired, and that he himself has a date and location for his next fight.
But speaking on the Full Send podcast on Thursday (19 June), 37-year-old Jones said: 'I don't want to say that I'm retired, because fighting's in my blood.
'Right now, I could [not] really care less about fighting. I've been doing it my whole life at a very high level, and when the itch comes back – and if it comes back – then I'll do it with my whole heart, do it to the best of my abilities.
'I think I will fight again in the future, I think I will fight again. Where the future of combat sports is going, it's going to be amazing when I pop back up, but right now, I'm just focused on so many other things – like family, like building my house, like building this brand.
'Right now, I look around and realise what's true, what's real. I see the way people look at me and the way I make people feel, and it's an extraordinary thing. It's a true blessing. Now my job is to serve that, give that to my fans, be reachable, touchable. Let them know what I have inside. That's who I am right now. I've punched and kicked enough people.
'I think [Tom] is awesome. I think he should go on and have a wonderful career. No, I don't think he needs me. I think when you want something bad enough, if you get it, it can be the worst thing that ever happened to you.
'I love being the ultimate troll. I'm in a spot right now where I'm really enjoying the fruits of my labour, all the hard work that I put in. He's not in a position to excite me, it's just the truth. Because if I whoop his ass, it's going to be the next guy. There's going to be a whole new fanbase of somebody who everybody believes in.
'I've done this my whole adult life. I remember 'Rampage' [Quinton Jackson] fans years ago, Rashad [Evans] fans and Lyoto [Machida] fans; I've literally replayed this story so many times in my life.'
With Jones refusing to commit to a unification bout with Aspinall, 32, fans are bewildered at why the UFC has not stripped Jones of his belt.
'I'm a company guy, and there's a lot of things that's happening behind the scenes, where my job is just to sit and be still and take the punishment. My job for the UFC is to do what's right for the company. I could easily just say I'm not fighting. My job is to chill, and that's what I'm doing.'
At the end of the interview, host Kyle Forgeard asked the former two-time light-heavyweight champion: 'What would it take to fight Tom Aspinall? From the UFC, like what does the UFC gotta do?'
Jones, laughing, replied: 'You said something real wild and off the cuff. I'll see you guys later.' He proceeded to stand and leave.
While some fans consider Jones the greatest fighter in MMA history, his career has been marred by numerous failed drug tests and run-ins with the law. The former 205lb king won the vacant heavyweight title in March 2023, but an injury thwarted his November defence against Stipe Miocic, and Jones was ruled out for a year.
In the meantime, Aspinall won the interim belt and made the rare move of defending it, which he did successfully in July 2024. Jones returned in November and stopped Miocic to retain the regular belt, setting up a unification fight with Aspinall – one to which Jones has never committed, leading fans to urge the UFC to take his title away.
This month, Aspinall told The Independent: 'I want to keep my job, so I don't want to say too much, but I said what I've said in other interviews and stuff... People think I'm joking, but it's the truth [that Jones has retired].
'I'm not the kind of guy to pull any media stunts or anything like that, like... What I'm saying is the truth.'

Conor McGregor links up with Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers in Ibiza days after 'punch' incident
McGregor has been pictured linking up with Celtic manager Rodgers in Ibiza, just days after the former UFC champion was allegedly involved in a nightclub altercation Conor McGregor has been spotted rubbing shoulders with Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers in Ibiza. The UFC star - who previously claimed he has held discussions to become a Celtic shareholder - took to social media on Friday evening to post a photo of himself alongside the Hoops boss, who was cradling a baby in the image. "LEGENDARY DOUBLE CHAMP LINK UP! NEXT YEAR, TREBLE! GOD IS GREAT! @CelticFC @ufc Congrats to the Rodgers family on the new addition to their family," McGregor captioned the picture on his social media platforms. This encounter between Rodgers and McGregor occurred shortly after the latter was reportedly involved in a scuffle at an Ibiza nightclub. The Sun published footage early Tuesday from Pacha nightclub, which purportedly shows McGregor leaning down to speak to an unidentified man on the dance floor. Seconds later, the 36 year old seems to launch two punches. Following the incident, the man was seen hitting the ground, prompting witnesses to share their accounts of what transpired. One eyewitness told The Sun that it seemed there were no repercussions for the ex-dual-weight UFC titleholder. "The guy seemed to fall to the floor, and his mates came to pick him up and get him away," they reported to The Sun. "There [didn't appear to be any] consequences for Conor." Another recounted: "About five people fell to the floor as the guy stumbled back. It was a bit like bowling pins, but the guy was really shaken." They continued: "About a minute later, the bouncers came and got him on the back and took him out of the club. "It was right before close anyway," they added. "There was no messing around; they just removed him. Conor left through the garden a bit later; he didn't look very happy." Since then, McGregor has shared that he was in Ibiza after treating his football teammates to a trip to the Spanish resort. The UFC star has been playing in an over 35's league with his local pub team and celebrated their recent league victory. "To celebrate winning the league I took the @blackforgeinn football squad away on holiday to Ibiza! All expenses paid, VIP's," McGregor posted on social media along with a selection of snaps and clips from their getaway. He elaborated: "LEAGUE CHAMPIONS, BABY! Reach out, link up, join a team! Get active! For the sake of your mental health you will thank yourself! #ibizapartyisland." Three years ago, McGregor stated talks took place with Dermot Desmond about his shares to provide financial backing for the Parkhead side.

Poker Face – Season 2 Episode 9 'A New Lease on Death' Recap & Review
Episode 9 The Murder Episode 9 of Poker Face Season 2 begins with an old woman named Anne and her granddaughter Madeline speaking with a lawyer. They live in a comfortable apartment in NYC, which is affordable due to rent control. Anne tells the lawyer she wants to adopt her granddaughter as her daughter. He quickly realises this is to maintain the rent control, which can only be passed down to a spouse or child. Later, when they're leaving the house, Anne stops by a fruit cart where she meets a woman named Kate. Two weeks later, Maddy comes home and walks in on her grandma having sex with Kate. Anne reveals that they are dating and that she's even asked Kate to move in with them. Kate and Maddy don't get on well, and eventually, the latter pays a tattooed man to find more information on Kate. Sometime later, Maddy confronts Kate with proof that she's faking her identity. Her real name is Amelia, she's been to prison, and even has a few warrants out for her arrest. Maddy accuses Kate of simply being after the rent-controlled apartment. She threatens to tell the authorities if Kate doesn't leave Anne immediately. She allows Kate one day to say goodbye to Anne. They have this argument in the laundry room where Kate notices the washing machine shakes during the spin cycle, enough to drop a can of coke sitting on top of it. The next day, she spills some descaler on the floor below the machine and places a bottle of bleach on top of it. She also messes with the lock on the laundry room door. She then tells Maddy to get her laundry while she 'breaks up' with Anne. Maddy goes down and as the spill cycle hits, the washing machine knocks the bleach to the floor. Mixed with the descaler, it creates a gas that ends up killing Maddy. The Investigation Charlie arrives in New York City, telling her radio friend Good Buddy that she's hoping all the lies will become white noise in the city. He tells her to use his NYC apartment in Brooklyn and she heads to the same building where Anne and Maddy stay. The landlord, Otto, catches her but she claims she's here just to water Good Buddy's cactus plants. She then goes to a nearby store run by a man named Abdul. There, she bumps into Kate, who is trying to scam her way into getting free fruit. Back at the apartment, Charlie is forced to hide from Otto and runs into the laundry room, where she meets Maddy. The laundry door locks them inside and Maddy complains that the landlord never fixes it. She uses her bike tools to break them out. Maddy invites her to watch Jeopardy with her grandmother. The tattooed man from earlier joins them and Charlie learns that he's Ricardo, a librarian who is good at research. Charlie then takes up a remote job as a captcha technician. When she returns to the apartment, she sees the place crawling with firefighters. One of them, a fellow resident in the building named Mickey, tells Charlie about the accident in the laundry room. A woman sitting nearby tells Charlie that the descaler and bleach reacted to produce chlorine gas, which killed Maddy. Charlie goes upstairs to give her condolences and is surprised to see Kate open the door to Anne's house. Kate doesn't let her meet Anne. Charlie then comes across Otto, who insists he had fixed the lock on the door. Charlie knows he's telling the truth and they go to the laundry room where Otto points out the door has a new handle, a different model from the one he'd bought. While cleaning Maddy's things, Kate finds the paper with her real identity on it. She notices Ricardo's name, since he accessed the information, and threatens him to keep quiet. Meanwhile, Charlie tries to find out from Abdul if anyone bought the new door handle. He has face blindness, so it takes a while but Charlie eventually realises it was Kate. Charlie heads back to the building and tries to speak to Ricardo about her suspicions about Kate. Before he can say anything, Kate (who was eavesdropping) pulls the fire alarm which forces them all to leave the building. Afterwards, Kate returns and is happy that the apartment is basically hers now. But her bubble bursts when she sees Otto showing a new tenant around. Anne reveals that she's too upset because of losing Maddy and wants to move out of the apartment. Kate is frustrated and tries to pressure Anne into marrying her immediately. She runs out to get the forms and when she's back, Charlie is waiting with Anne. She's told her everything. Anne asks Charlie to step into another room and confronts Kate. Kate tells Anne it's all a lie and asks her to go get her laundry while she deals with Charlie. After Anne leaves, Kate pushes Charlie off the balcony. But thanks to Charlie's good friend Mickey — who had laid out an inflatable platform to catch her — Charlie's absolutely fine. In fact, Anne has seen the whole thing and her lawyer, who was hiding in the apartment, has recorded Kate's attempted murder. In Charlie's words, she's cooked. Poker Face Season 2 Episode 9 ends with Charlie helping Anne pack up her things as the new tenant makes plans for redoing the apartment. The Episode Review Poker Face Season 2 Episode 9 is a fun ride, even if it is a bit more straightforward than some of Poker Face's other episodes. This one has fewer twists and turns compared to even last week's episode, which offers a solid plot twist and unexpected reveal at the end. And there are a few details, like the woman who gives Charlie a free coffee, that aren't tied up in the larger plot. Awkwafina feels a bit underused as well. It's still quite an enjoyable episode, though, particularly with that New York aesthetic and how Charlie meets a firefighter who wanted to be a tap dancer and a woman who used to be a journalist but now peels potatoes outside the building. It's also nice to see that Charlie and Good Buddy are still in touch, although we could use some more information about him. The humour is pretty on brand as well and that one joke about Vague magazine will stay with me for a while. All in all, another solid Charlie Cale adventure. Nicolas Jackson apologises for costly red card against Flamengo: ‘So angry at myself'
Nicolas Jackson apologised after his costly sending-off in Chelsea 's Club World Cup implosion against Flamengo. The Senegal striker was shown a straight red card – just four minutes after coming off the bench – for an aggressive studs-up challenge on Ayrton Lucas in Friday's 3-1 defeat in Philadelphia. It came amid a calamitous six-minute spell in the second period in which the Blues also conceded two goals to surrender their half-time lead. It was also Jackson's second dismissal in just four appearances having also been given his marching orders for a forearm crack on Newcastle's Sven Botman in a Premier League match last month. 'I want to say sorry,' Jackson wrote on Instagram on what was a 24th birthday to forget. 'To the club, the staff, my teammates, and all the fans watching, I let you down. 'Another red card… And honestly, I'm so angry at myself. I work hard every day to help the team not to put us in this kind of situation. 'I still don't fully understand how it happened. But one thing is clear: it wasn't intentional. Just a moment in football that went the wrong way. 'No excuses. I take full responsibility. I'll reflect, I'll grow, and I'll come back stronger for the badge and for everyone who believes in me. 'Sorry. Sorry, Sorry.' Jackson's moment of madness, in which he forcefully caught Lucas on the shin, effectively ended Chelsea's hopes of getting back into the Group D contest at Lincoln Financial Field. Enzo Maresca 's side were already reeling after Pedro Neto's well-taken 14th-minute opener was cancelled out by Bruno Henrique after 62 minutes and quickly followed by another goal for veteran Danilo. Wallace Yan wrapped up the scoring seven minutes from time, putting Flamengo in charge of the group and potentially making Chelsea's route through the tournament complicated. Defender Marc Cucurella suggested discipline was an area Jackson needed to work on. The defender told DAZN: 'He is young player, he has a lot of quality, he maybe needs to improve this a little bit. We are here to improve, we are not perfect so it is part of the game.' Maresca did not deny the sending-off was damaging, though he tempered criticism by claiming it was not a clear-cut decision. Maresca said: 'Those six minutes completely changed the dynamic of the game. 'I'm not 100 per cent sure that it's a red card compared to the Newcastle one, but it can be and the referee decided it. 'It's a little bit of a bad moment for Nico in these things. He knows very well that both situations were not something good for the team.' Former Chelsea defender Filipe Luis, now the manager of Flamengo, backed Jackson to bounce back. 'It was a little mistake,' he said. 'It was a clear red for me but it is a small detail for a player who can be one of the biggest strikers in the world.' Chelsea, who now have three points from their opening two games, face ES Tunis in their final group game on Tuesday night (2am Wednesday BST).
