LATAM Airlines Group to Host 82nd IATA AGM in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil - Middle East Business News and Information
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced that the 82nd IATA Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in June 2026, hosted by LATAM Airlines Group.
'We are excited to accept LATAM's offer to host IATA's 82nd AGM in Rio de Janeiro. The last time the IATA AGM was in South America was in 1999, also in Rio. It will be a great opportunity to take stock of changes over two decades of development that have seen strengthening air connectivity successfully support major world events like the FIFA World Cup and the Olympics. By meeting in the largest aviation market in South America, the AGM will highlight the great potential for aviation to be an even more powerful strategic force driving social and economic prosperity,' said Willie Walsh, IATA's Director General.

His historic flight in 1906 marked a significant milestone in the development of powered flight, not only in Latin America but also the entire globe.

Turkish Airlines and Icelandair Expand Codeshare Partnership - Middle East Business News and Information
Turkish Airlines and Icelandair announced the expansion of their existing codeshare partnership during the 81 st IATA AGM in New Delhi, India. This expansion marks a significant step in strengthening connectivity between two key regions at the crossroads of continents and oceans. Since the beginning of their partnership in June 2023, the two flag carriers have cooperated under a codeshare agreement to offer passengers more seamless travel options. Building on this foundation, Icelandair will introduce direct flights between Reykjavik and İstanbul, starting September 5, 2025, operating twice weekly during the winter season. These new flights will be incorporated into the scope of the agreement, allowing Turkish Airlines to put its marketing code on Icelandair's operations. In return, Icelandair will place its marketing code on select Turkish Airlines flights beyond Istanbul, covering destinations across Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. This extended integration connects Icelandair's transatlantic network with Turkish Airlines' global reach across multiple continents, creating new opportunities for both business and leisure travel. Commenting on the expansion of the partnership, Turkish Airlines CEO, Mr. Bilal Ekşi stated: 'This cooperation goes beyond a commercial partnership. It represents a strategic alignment between two trusted carriers. By launching direct flights between Reykjavik and Istanbul and integrating our networks, we are opening the door to new traffic flows and connectivity options between Iceland, Türkiye and beyond.' Transport Min. Urges Drivers Not to Use BRT Lane
Taarek Refaat The Ministry of Transport has urged drivers again not to use the BRT lane on the left side of the road and to adhere to driving in the other lanes. The Ministry explained in a statement that this is aimed at maintaining the efficiency and sustainability of the new transportation system, reducing accidents resulting from vehicle overlap in the BRT lane, and supporting traffic discipline on the Ring Road. The Ministry indicated that it is cooperating with the General Traffic Department to issue and enforce a deterrent traffic violation for vehicles traveling in the BRT lane on the Ring Road. FAO: Global Food Commodity Prices Decline
Taarek Refaat The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) reported on Friday that global food commodity prices declined in May, driven by significant declines in cereals, sugar, and vegetable oils. According to the FAO's monthly index, changes in the prices of a basket of the world's most traded food commodities averaged 127.7 points in May, down 0.8% from April. The May reading was 6% higher year-on-year, but 20% lower than the peak reached in March 2022, following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine that sparked a devastating war between two of the world's largest grain producers. FAO said its Cereal Price Index fell 1.8% month-on-month, driven by a sharp decline in global maize prices. Strong harvests and ample supplies in Argentina and Brazil, along with expectations of a record crop in the United States, weighed on prices. Wheat prices also declined due to improved crop conditions in the Northern Hemisphere. In contrast, rice prices rose 1.4%, supported by strong demand for aromatic varieties and currency volatility. Also, vegetable oil prices fell 3.7% compared to April, with all major oils declining. The FAO Sugar Price Index fell 2.6%, reflecting concerns about the global economic outlook, weak demand from the food and beverage industries, and expectations of a production recovery next season.
