Woman injured, businessman arrested after road rage assault with pistol grip
GEORGE TOWN: A 41-year-old man has been arrested following a violent road rage incident that left a woman seriously injured after she was allegedly assaulted with what is believed to be the grip of a pistol.
The incident occurred at 2.20am on Sunday along Jalan Kelawei. A police report was lodged at 5.57pm the same day.
Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the 28-year-old female victim claimed she was attacked during an altercation that arose from a road dispute.
Initial investigations suggest the confrontation escalated following a traffic-related disagreement between the victim and the suspect.
"The suspect then allegedly used the grip of a pistol to inflict serious injuries on the victim, specifically to her nose and eye area," he said in a statement.
The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt with a dangerous weapon, and Section 34 of the Arms Act 1960 for unlawful possession or use of a firearm.
Rozak said that at around 9.30am today, the suspect — a businessman — voluntarily surrendered at the Northeast District Police Headquarters.
"Authorities have seized a pistol, a magazine, and a firearm licence booklet in connection with the investigation," he added.

Police also seized a black bag, a silver-black air pistol bearing the inscription Pietro Beretta Gardone V.T., a speed loader, and 30 ball-bearing bullets. The suspect has been remanded for seven days until June 23 to assist in the investigation under Section 33 of the Arms Act 1960 and Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief. Fatal Meru shooting: Cops probing secret society link
KLANG: Police are reviewing several closed-circuit television (CCTV) recordings near the scene of yesterday's fatal shooting in Meru as part of their ongoing investigation into the case. Klang Utara police chief Assistant Commissioner S Vijaya Rao said while there is CCTV footage from the area, the recordings have so far not been helpful in identifying the suspect. "Some footage has already been reviewed, and other nearby CCTV recordings are still being examined," he said when contacted today. Vijaya said police have recorded several witness statements and will call in more people to assist in the investigation. He said possible secret society involvement is still under investigation.
