Big Transfer in Big Tech! Mladen M. Hoyss, previously Software Creative Director at Nothing, is now a part of the Apple Design Team!
He announced the change via an X post himself, simply stating "New beginning at Apple" (plus the Cupertino company logo), and got Carl Pei, his former boss, to congratulate him: Besides the "Congrats dude, proud of you!" praise that Carl Pei expresses, Nothing's CEO takes the opportunity to tease Apple's CEO and says to Tim Cook:In a 2023 interview, Mladen M. Hoyss, then Software Creative Director at Nothing, shared the company's vision for Nothing OS 2.0. He explained that from the outset, Nothing aimed to create a clean, minimal layer over Android – one that stripped away the visual clutter common on most smartphones. Hoyss criticized standard home screens as little more than scrollable pages of corporate logos, arguing that a true "home" should be more thoughtful and meaningful. He also emphasized that Nothing would avoid making overblown promises, focusing instead on building stable, visually refined products. His comments underscored the company's broader goal: to rethink smartphone software by cutting through noise and focusing on purposeful design.

"All the best brother – until our paths cross again", Nothing co-founder Akis Evangelidis said to Hoyss, and the latter responded with "Until we run a marathon together".

Apple sued again over broken AI promises, and this time by its own shareholders

Apple is now facing a new legal challenge, this time from its own shareholders. A proposed securities fraud class action was filed in federal court on June 20, accusing the company of misleading investors about the timeline and capabilities of its artificial intelligence features, particularly those tied to Siri and the iPhone 16. The lawsuit, filed in San Francisco's Northern District of California, claims Apple downplayed how long it would take to deliver the AI upgrades it introduced as part of Apple Intelligence. The plaintiffs argue that these delays contributed to a decline in iPhone sales and a significant drop in the company's stock value. The case, Tucker v. Apple Inc, names CEO Tim Cook, CFO Kevan Parekh, and former CFO Luca Maestri as defendants. According to the complaint, investors were led to believe that Apple Intelligence would be a key selling point for the iPhone 16 lineup, offering smarter and more capable Siri experiences. But shareholders claim Apple did not actually have a working version of those features when it made those announcements during the June 2024 Worldwide Developers Conference. The situation became more complicated earlier this year when Apple reportedly postponed some of the new Siri capabilities to 2026. That initial delay came in March, and was followed by a WWDC 2025 presentation that left many analysts underwhelmed with the company's AI progress. In the months since, Apple shares have fallen nearly 25 percent from their all-time high in late December 2024, wiping out about $900 billion in market value. Apple's broken AI promise prompted this new round of litigation. | Image credit — Apple via Wayback Machine From a consumer standpoint, I think it was only a matter of time before legal action followed. Many users were expecting next-gen Siri features out of the box. Now that the lawsuit is official, Apple may need to move quickly to restore trust. Ideally, that means delivering more AI upgrades sooner, though it's likely the company will now be more cautious about overpromising in the future. Secure your connection now at a bargain price! Want free AirPods or an Apple Pencil? Apple's back-to-school deals are changing

In previous years, Apple handed out gift cards with eligible purchases, which students could use toward apps, services, or accessories. But now, those gift cards are being replaced with specific hardware incentives. For example, buying an iPad can get you a free Apple Pencil Pro, while a MacBook includes a free pair of noise-canceling AirPods 4 or a wireless keyboard. iMac buyers also receive AirPods. Other accessories, like the Magic Keyboard for iPad, are being offered at a discount rather than included for free. This approach may seem like a simple change, but it's a calculated move. By bundling popular accessories instead of generic gift cards, Apple is likely trying to draw users further into its product ecosystem. Accessories like the Apple Pencil Pro are only compatible with higher-end models such as the iPad Pro, iPad Air, or iPad mini. That could nudge buyers toward more expensive devices. In the case of the MacBook, the free accessory options are interesting. A laptop usually doesn't require an external keyboard or trackpad, but by providing one, Apple may be encouraging users to expand their setup later with a Mac Studio or iMac. It's a way to create future demand while offering short-term value. AirPods are also a key part of this strategy. Customers who start using AirPods often stick with them, even after losing them or when the battery wears out. Giving them away for free with a Mac could build long-term loyalty and drive repeat purchases down the line. I think this is a smart move that benefits students, especially those who would likely end up buying these accessories anyway. Many users don't buy a Mac or iPad without pairing it with at least one first-party accessory, and Apple's own products tend to work better with its software and ecosystem. So getting some of that hardware for free rather than having to buy it separately might make the deal more attractive. At the same time, it's clear Apple is being strategic. This isn't just about giving things away — it's about investing in future customers. Secure your connection now at a bargain price!
