Adam Scott rebounds from U.S. Open with 62 Saturday at Travelers Championship

Adam Scott shoots a 62 at the Travelers, rebounding from a draining U.S. Open and leaning on smart recovery habits. CROMWELL, Conn. – Adam Scott sounded and played like a man who was tired this week at the Travelers Championship, posting rounds of 2-over 72 on both Thursday and Friday. Coming off last week's U.S. Open, where he was in contention deep into Sunday afternoon, that's understandable. But the Australian, who turns 45 next month, appeared refreshed Saturday at TPC River Highlands and shot his lowest round of the year, a 62. 'I believe I'm playing this (tournament) well, but you've got to make some putts at the end of the day to shoot a number,' Scott said. 'That was the difference between the first two days and today.' While walking a rain-soaked Oakmont Country Club was wearing on everyone, for Scott, the mental fatigue of grinding and working to win a second career major was more mentally fatiguing than physically hard. 'Sunday last week was a real letdown,' he admitted. 'It was draining — confidence and fatigue, you know? But I knew I had to play this week.' Unlike most of his career, when Scott typically took the week after a major off, the demands of the PGA Tour's signature event schedule have required a shift in strategy — and recovery habits. That means not showing up at the course on Monday or Tuesday unless there's a pressing issue. It also means relying on past experience — this is his fourth appearance at the Travelers Championship in the last five years — and taking it easy in practice rounds. 'It's really about conserving energy and just having a bit of recovery, so that hopefully when you're in contention the next week, there's plenty in the tank still,' he said. Scott's putter, however, is where things turned most dramatically on Saturday. The 2013 Masters champion struggled on the greens Friday, requiring 34 putts to complete 18 holes and making just 40 feet of putts. Saturday, he needed only 25 putts, and the combined distance of those was just over 121 feet. According to the PGA Tour's ShotLink system, it amounted to a four-shot improvement. 'I made one on one (from 21 feet) and freed up a little bit there,' he said. 'You need a trigger to change it. You can't do the same stuff and expect a different result.' That trigger came courtesy of a quick conversation with longtime friend and former Masters champion Trevor Immelman, who offered a subtle cue during a pre-round putting session. 'It wasn't technical. It was more just a feeling of watching the putt roll in my posture,' Scott said. 'I think he liked the idea that I just kind of stayed down in the shot more, rather than just standing up to watch it roll.' That freedom led to one of the cleanest rounds of the day. But finishing at 4 under for the tournament, before the overnight leaders — Justin Thomas, Scottie Scheffler and Tommy Fleetwood — started their day at 9 under, Scott is not going to win this tournament. But in the grand scheme, that's OK for Scott. 'I'm out here for a reason, so I'll try and get the most out of it if I can,' he said. 'I'd rather leave today with the confidence of shooting 62 than mailing it in and shooting 70 or 72 and not really getting anything out of it.' Scott may have arrived in Connecticut with his gauge pointing to 'empty,' and he won't leave with the trophy. But he's heading into the rest of the summer knowing there's still plenty of game — and grit — left in the tank.

Laika Revives PARANORMAN With New Short Starring Anna Kendrick & Finn Wolfhard - Plus a 3D Halloween Re-Release — GeekTyrant

Laika's cult-favorite film ParaNorman is coming back from the dead this Halloween, as fans will get to experience the stop-motion film on the big screen once again, this time in newly remastered RealD 3D. And that's not all. The return comes with the world premiere of a brand-new CG short film: ParaNorman: The Thrifting , featuring the voices of Anna Kendrick and Finn Wolfhard. The announcement came out of the Annecy Animation Festival, and the limited theatrical run is set to kick off on October 23 from Trafalgar Releasing, with U.S. screenings beginning October 25 through Fathom Entertainment. ParaNorman , originally released in 2012 and directed by Chris Butler and Sam Fell, was a landmark film for Laika and was a funny, spooky, heartfelt, and unapologetically weird movie. Laika's Chief Marketing and Operations Officer David Burke reflected on its legacy: 'ParaNorman was a breakthrough film for Laika – emotionally rich, visually daring and proudly weird in all the right ways. Bringing it back to theaters in stunning remastered 3D, paired with a brand-new short film, is an invitation for audiences to rediscover the heart and humor of Norman's world – or experience it for the first time.' The all-new short, The Thrifting , is directed by Thibault LeClercq and written by ParaNorman Butler. It was developed in partnership with Passion Pictures and features Anna Kendrick returning as Norman's sister Courtney Babcock. Joining her is Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard, though Laika hasn't revealed who he'll be voicing just yet. The decision to revisit ParaNorman was fueled in part by the unexpected box office success of last year's 3D return of Coraline. Fathom Entertainment CEO Ray Nutt noted: 'Coraline consumers voted with their wallets last year, resulting in approximately 70% of the record-breaking $34 million+ U.S. theatrical box office coming in 3D. ParaNorman is the ideal, spooky follow-up for audiences.' Trafalgar Releasing's Kymberli Frueh added: 'ParaNorman is a visually stunning, emotionally resonant film that deserves to be experienced in theaters – both in 2D and in vividly remastered RealD 3D.' Whether you're revisiting Blithe Hollow or discovering it for the first time, this Halloween offers the perfect excuse to embrace the ghosts, ghouls, and wonderfully weird world of ParaNorman all over again.

New PGA Tour CEO must focus on television rights as much as LIV golf split

There are likely many reasons that Brian Rolapp was hired as the new CEO of the PGA Tour, and several reasons that he will take over day-to-day operations of the men's tour while Commissioner Jay Monahan slowly heads toward the end of his contract in 2026. In many ways, it seems like Monahan beat the odds by staying in his job so long, two years after his announcement of a deal with the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund caused questioning and even anger from rank-and-file tour members over the proposed deal. Rolapp will have to deal with the continuing efforts to end the split in the game between the PGA Tour and LIV Tour. But pretty high up among those reasons Rolapp has the new CEO job has to be Rolapp's previous position with the National Football League, the unstoppable steamroller of American sports. Rolapp, you see, was most recently the chief media and business officer of the NFL. In that capacity, he was an integral part of media rights negotiations for the league, and we all know that it is media money that pushes the NFL to higher and higher heights each year. Schupak: Can Brian Rolapp make the PGA Tour a 'ham sandwich business' again? That's important because the looming renewal of television rights for the PGA Tour is going to be a priority. Where golf will be seen in the future, or at least how consumers can view the PGA Tour, will be key to the growth of the game in the coming years. The tour's current contracts with CBS, NBC and ESPN run through 2030, contracts that bring in $700 million. Those contracts do not include events like the Masters or the U.S. Open, non-PGA Tour events that have separate deals with the networks. So Rolapp might well focus on two main issues when it comes to broadcast rights deals. First, in an era of spotty ratings, should the deals be renegotiated before the completion of the contracts in 2030? Second, in looking beyond 2030, will Rolapp and the PGA Tour look for something other than traditional television platforms like broadcast television? Anyone who watched the U.S. Open last week knows that at least some of the broadcast hours were exclusively on Peacock, NBC's streaming platform. You could also watch the event on Peacock while the championship was being shown on NBC. Streaming is becoming the new normal in American sports, with Netflix showing NFL games, particularly on Christmas Day, Peacock grabbing NBA games under that league's new deal with NBC and even the PGA Tour having a digital deal to show its tournaments on ESPN+. Other NBA games are moving from TNT this year to Amazon Prime next year. It seems logical that more and more of the PGA Tour's product will find its way behind paywalls as cable continues to bleed subscribers. Yahoo Finance reports cable subscriptions were down by 1.6 million in the first quarter of this year and 6 million since the first quarter of 2024. Options for streaming for the tour include ESPN+, which already works with the tour. Could the tour put its own streaming app together, like other sports and teams are doing? Peacock and potentially Paramount+ are natural partners because of their association with NBC and CBS. We haven't mentioned yet that Comcast, which owns NBC, is spinning off many of its cable networks in the coming year to the highest bidder. Part of that package will be Golf Channel, which shows at least the first two rounds of most PGA Tour events and all four rounds of numerous events, including The American Express in La Quinta each January. It could be that the tour has to negotiate separate deals with Golf Channel once it splits from Comcast. If the PGA Tour found another outlet to show its events, would Golf Channel even exist? It's a lot to take in, especially with just four and a half years left in the current contracts. You know the tour and the networks would rather have a new deal done much earlier, not waiting until the last minute. That is at least part of the landscape that Rolapp will inherit as the first-ever CEO of the PGA Tour. It might not be as front-burner headline worthy as the negotiations with LIV, but in the long term, television rights might be just as important. If the NFL has streaming for its games, it might make sense that Rolapp at least explores that area for the PGA Tour.
