ATLANTA — Stink, stank, stunk.
There you have the anatomy of the Mets' three games at Truist Park that followed their equally compelling series last weekend against the Rays.
The Mets were sputtering before Thursday's first pitch was thrown, and following a 7-1 loss to the Braves for a sixth straight defeat, the threat of a lingering stench seemed likely.
It's a team headed into Philadelphia to face Zack Wheeler on Friday with solo possession of first place in the NL East a memory.
The Phillies have won five of six games and ended the day tied with the Mets atop the division.
That the Mets are slumping offensively isn't sounding alarms as much as the recent pitching doldrums.
On this night it was Clay Holmes who turned in a clunker, following an uninspiring Paul Blackburn start, and Huascar Brazoban didn't provide any relief.
It left manager Carlos Mendoza to use Justin Hagenman for 2 ²/₃ innings, removing him from duty on Friday, when he likely would have followed an opener against the Phillies.
4 Matt Olson slides safely past Francisco Alvarez to score a run in the fourth inning of the Mets' 7-1 loss to the Braves on June 19, 2025.

But there is no excusing a lineup that produced only one run over the final 22 innings against the Braves, barely emitting a squeak against Chris Sale and Spencer Strider.

The Braves are still five games below .500, but have to believe their season is alive, especially with a four-game series looming next week at Citi Field.
Holmes couldn't escape the fifth, extending Drake Baldwin's at-bat to eight pitches before walking him with the bases loaded to give the Braves a 2-1 lead.
4 Clay Holmes, who allowed three runs and was taken out in the fifth inning, talks with Francisco Alvarez during the first inning of the Mets' loss to the Braves.

Holmes departed at 104 pitches, and Huascar Brazoban issued a four-pitch walk to Ozzie Albies that further extended Atlanta's lead before Brazoban recorded the final out.
Holmes was charged for three earned runs on four hits and six walks over 4²/₃ innings in a rare sloppy performance that pushed his ERA to 3.04.
It was a second straight start in which Holmes failed to reach the sixth inning.
4 Nick Allen celebrates after hitting a double in the third inning of the Mets' loss to the Braves.

Ronny Mauricio stroked an RBI single against Strider in the second for the game's first run.
Tyrone Taylor singled and stole second before Mauricio delivered with two outs.
It was a needed contribution from the rookie Mauricio, who entered in a 3-for-22 (.136) rut over his previous seven games.
4 Tyrone Taylor high-fives teammates after scoring a run in the second inning of the Mets' loss to the Braves.

The RBI snapped a 15-inning scoreless streak for the Mets, who were dominated by Sale a night earlier.

Angels Make Unfortunate Jorge Soler Announcement Before Yankees Game

Angels Make Unfortunate Jorge Soler Announcement Before Yankees Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Los Angeles Angels beat the New York Yankees on Monday and Tuesday, but it was no thanks to outfielder Jorge Soler. The 33-year-old is just 1-for-9 in the series and is slashing .119/.196/.119 with three RBI over 13 games in June. Advertisement Los Angeles acquired the former All-Star from the Atlanta Braves on October 31 in exchange for right-handed pitcher Griffin Canning. The two-time World Series champion has had a successful career, as his next homer will be his 200th since entering the big leagues. However, he hasn't been close to the player he was in 2019, when he tallied 48 homers and 117 RBI for the Kansas City Royals. The Angels revealed an unfortunate Soler update before Wednesday night's bout with the Yankees, via The Orange County Register's Jeff Fletcher. The Angels won Monday and Tuesday's games by a combined score of 5-0, and they're 6-4 in their last 10. They're now a half-game behind the Texas Rangers for third place in the AL West and two games out of a Wild Card spot. Los Angeles will play New York again on Thursday before hosting the Houston Astros, Boston Red Sox, and Washington Nationals. After that, it will hit the road to face the Atlanta Braves and Toronto Blue Jays before hosting the Rangers and Arizona Diamondbacks. Mets Receive Mark Vientos News After Sixth Straight Loss originally appeared on Athlon Sports. New York Mets third baseman/designated hitter Mark Vientos entrenched himself in the team's lore by slashing .327.362/.636 with five homers and 14 RBI over 13 playoff games last season. However, the 25-year-old hasn't been at that level since. Advertisement Vientos is slashing .230/.298/.380 with six homers and 21 RBI over 53 games this year and has totaled a -0.2 WAR after notching a 3.2 mark last season. The 6-foot-3-inch, 185-pounder hasn't played since June 2 due to a hamstring injury, but he did slash .256/.304/.359 in May. The Mets received an update about Vientos before Friday's road matchup with the Philadelphia Phillies, via Anthony DiComo. New York Mets third baseman Mark Vientos (27).Steven Bisig-USA TODAY Sports "Mark Vientos (hamstring) will continue to play rehab games through this weekend," he reported. "The Mets will discuss his status after that. If all goes well, Vientos could return Monday for the start of the [Atlanta] Braves series." Advertisement The veteran notched a career-high 111 games played last season, slashing .266/.322/.516 with 27 homers and 71 RBI. New York is on a six-game losing streak after getting swept by the Tampa Bay Rays and Braves. The club is tied with Philadelphia atop the NL East ahead of Friday's contest, which starts a three-game series. Rookie right-handed pitcher Blade Tidwell will make his second career start on Friday as veteran hurlers Kodai Senga (hamstring) and Tylor Megill (elbow) rest on the 15-day IL. The 24-year-old gave up six runs on nine hits across 3.2 innings in Sunday's 6-5 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. Angels Make Unexpected Coaching Move Before Astros Game

Angels Make Unexpected Coaching Move Before Astros Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Los Angeles Angels are just two games under .500 and two games out of an AL Wild Card spot entering Friday's slate, but it gets better. They also have a chance to make up ground on the Houston Astros in their upcoming series, who are 6.5 games ahead of them for first place in the AL West. Advertisement Los Angeles is 6-4 in its last 10 contests and just took three out of four games vs. the New York Yankees on the road. The Angels allowed two runs or fewer in three of the contests, which were all consecutive wins before Thursday's 7-3 loss. However, the Angels had to make an unexpected coaching pivot before Friday's bout with the Astros, via The Athletic's Sam Blum. Los Angeles Angels manager Ron Washington (37)© Jerome Miron-Imagn Images "Ron Washington will not manage the team indefinitely, due to a health concern," he reported. "He'll be with the team tonight, watching from the suites. [Bench coach] Ray Montgomery will manage the team tonight and moving forward." This development interrupts Washington's second season managing the Angels. The 73-year-old previously was a coach with the Atlanta Braves from 2017-23 and won the 2021 World Series with them. Washington was an infielder from 1977-89, playing for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Minnesota Twins, Baltimore Orioles, Cleveland Indians (now Guardians), and the Astros. He was also a coach on the Oakland Athletics (now just Athletics) from 1996-2006 before managing the Texas Rangers from 2007-14. He then had a second Athletics coaching stint from 2015-16. Advertisement Southpaw pitcher Yusei Kikuchi (2-6, 3.05 ERA) will start for the Angels against Astros right-hander Hunter Brown (8-3, 1.88 ERA) on Friday.
