Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar fell off a bicycle during a World Environment Day event at Vidhana Soudha but continued promoting environmental awareness.

A video of Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar falling off a bicycle at the steps of Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru has gone viral on social media on Tuesday.
The clip shows Shivakumar, dressed in a polo shirt and track pants, losing his balance just as he attempts to park his bicycle, tumbling directly onto the steps. Security personnel and others nearby quickly rush to help him back on his feet.
The incident happened shortly after the eco-walk event in Bengaluru, which was flagged off by Shivakumar along with Forest, Ecology, and Environment Minister Eshwar Khandre, as part of the state's World Environment Day 2025 celebrations.

Shivakumar even posted a photo of himself with the bicycle on his official X account, writing: 'In the corridors of power, I chose a cycle – because progress doesn't always need horsepower, just people power.."
During his address at the Vidhana Soudha, the Deputy CM spoke about Bengaluru's reputation as a 'garden city" and highlighted the government's efforts to promote environmental awareness.
The program, originally scheduled for June 5, was postponed due to logistical reasons.
'There is no such Vidhana Soudha in the entire world. Students should come and see Vidhana Soudha. All of us should come and see it. This program could have been held elsewhere. But we have organised a program here to see Vidhana Soudha. This program was supposed to be held on the 5th June. For some reason, it was not possible to do it…The weather here is good. It is raining. I went to Ahmedabad, where the temperature is 40 degrees Celsius by now, but here it is 22," Shivakumar added.
Minister Khandre said the state is working to end plastic pollution and that awareness efforts must become a public movement. 'We have banned single-use plastic, but that has to be transformed into a people's movement. We can make many laws, but laws have to be implemented. We have to seek the support of people and just raise awareness amongst the students. Such programmes will help us," he said.

He mentioned that the forest department has discussed the project's issues. Land acquisition and financial issues related to the construction of a balanced reservoir in Bairagonda, Lakkenahalli, were also discussed in the meeting with the forest department. DK Shivakumar informed that the changes in the project will take place based on the suggestions of the ministers and asserted that he would study everything and raise the issue in the upcoming cabinet meeting. 'Our government's resolve is to deliver Yettinahole water to Kolar by 2027. We have already discussed the issues related to this project with the Forest Department, the land acquisition process, land acquisition and financial issues related to the construction of a balanced reservoir in Bairagonda, Lakkenahalli. Therefore, we visited the site of these works and inspected them. The changes in this project have been made based on the suggestions of the ministers. There are also some technical aspects here. I will study everything and raise this issue in the next cabinet meeting. I am not worried even if other projects are delayed, the CM has directed me to complete the Yettinahole project on priority', DK Shivakumar told reporters on Saturday. (ANI)

Delhi weather today: IMD forecasts heavy rain; orange alert for 8 states

People in Delhi woke to a pleasant summer morning on Sunday with relatively cooler weather. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday issued a yellow alert for Delhi, warning of thunderstorms with lightning and moderate to heavy rainfall. Generally cloudy skies with moderate to heavy rain or thunderstorms are likely, accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph, occasionally reaching up to 50 kmph during storms. The showers are expected to bring the maximum temperature down to 35–37 degrees Celsius, with the minimum likely to hover around 27–29 degrees Celsius. Delhi weather: Weekly forecast Delhi is expected to witness largely cloudy weather over the next seven days, with the IMD issuing a yellow alert for thunderstorms, lightning, and moderate to light rainfall through June 27. Gusty winds between 30–40 kmph, occasionally reaching 50 kmph during evening or night thunderstorms, have been forecast. While the intensity of rainfall may vary, no heatwave conditions are expected during the week. Cloudy skies are likely to persist from June 24 to June 27. Rain improves air quality in Delhi Delhi's air quality continues to show improvement on Sunday, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) slipping into the 'satisfactory' category after remaining 'poor' for several days. The air quality was recorded 'satisfactory' at 9 am on June 22, with an AQI reading of 83, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data showed. According to the CPCB, an AQI between 0 and 50 is considered 'good', 51–100 'satisfactory', 101–200 'moderate', 201–300 'poor', 301–400 'very poor' and 401–500 'severe'. IMD issues orange alert for several states The IMD has issued an orange alert for eight states, warning of intense rainfall activity. The alert covers Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, and Uttar Pradesh. Earlier, on June 21, the IMD had warned of 'heavy to very heavy rainfall' over Northwest India, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and the Konkan-Goa region, with the wet spell expected to continue from June 21 to June 26. "Conditions are favourable for further advance of monsoon into the remaining parts of North Arabian Sea, more areas of Rajasthan, West Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and some parts of Jammu & Kashmir–Gilgit-Baltistan–Muzaffarabad and Ladakh during the next two days," the IMD said.

IRAN BACKS DOWN Before the US involvement, Iran had said it was prepared to negotiate, but only when Israel stopped attacking. Is it still possible? And when the then-supreme leader, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, agreed to the ceasefire, he said it was 'worse than drinking poison". An analytical piece in The Conversation said that 'given the state of Iran's military capabilities, Khamenei, the current supreme leader, might surrender simply to try to preserve the regime. But this would be quite a climbdown as far as he's concerned, and he has been very obstinate in the past". 'The regime is very unpopular, but the Iranian people are strongly patriotic – loyal to their country, if not the regime. Though it's difficult to gauge opinion in a country of 90 million people, a lot of Iranians would not want to be ordered to do anything by the US or Israel, and would rather fight on," it said. While Netanyahu wants Iranians to rise against the regime, aside from Iran's internal politics, Khamenei's regime has plans in place for his successors. 3. US GETS CREDIT According to a poll by The Economist and YouGov released on June 17, 60% of Americans were opposed to joining the conflict between Israel and Iran, with just 16% in favour.
