Man arrested, 670 e-cigarettes worth Rs 21 lakh seized
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Commissioner's Task Force, Central Zone Team, along with Saifabad Police apprehended a 28-year-old man involved in the illegal sale of banned electronic cigarettes and seized 670 e-cigarettes worth Rs 21 lakh from his possession.
The police raided a flat located in Prinstancode Apartments, Adarsh Nagar, under the jurisdiction of Saifabad Police Station. During the operation, Akash Sinde was arrested and e-cigarettes of various brands such as Elfbar, Elux, Raya D1, Nasty, and Shisha were seized.
According to police, Akash, originally a resident of Mangalhat, was employed as a caretaker by one Vishesh Agarwal at Prinstancode Apartments, located opposite Grand Bazar, Adarsh Nagar, on a monthly salary basis.
Task Force DCP YVS Sudheendra said that in pursuit of easy and illegal profits, Akash began procuring banned e-cigarettes at low cost from Delhi through a network of agents. He then transported them to Hyderabad, stored them at the said premises, and sold them clandestinely to known and needy customers, primarily targeting college students, teenagers, and youth.
Electronic cigarettes contain Nicotine and harmful chemical-laced flavors, making them highly addictive and injurious to health. The easy availability and appeal of these products are leading to increased consumption among the younger demographic.
The accused, along with the seized material, has been handed over to the Saifabad Police for further legal action.

A four-year-old girl from a family of migrant labourers was found dead on Saturday morning, nearly 17 hours after a leopard dragged her into the forested tea estates of the Anamalai Tiger Reserve (ATR), in what officials described as a rare and tragic incident near Valparai in western Tamil Nadu. The child, M Roshini Kumari, had arrived in the Pachamalai estate area with her parents from Jharkhand just a week earlier. Her father, Manoj Munda, and mother, Monica Devi, were newly employed tea estate workers in the hilly region. On Friday evening, around 6.30 pm, Roshini was standing beside her mother, who was fetching water near their line house, when a leopard emerged from the tea bushes and pounced. The child was dragged away in full view of the mother. 'The family raised an alarm, and local workers alerted the nearest forest office. There was an intense overnight search operation that spanned nearly two square kilometres, involving 40 forest personnel, a sniffer dog named Bairava, drone surveillance, and help from local fire and police departments. But there was no sign of the girl until late Friday night,' said a forest range officer who was part of the team. By 11.30 am on Saturday, Roshini's partially eaten body was discovered 700 meters from her home in a eucalyptus grove. The remains were taken to the Valparai Government Hospital for post-mortem. Officials said the department has been preparing to place 20 camera traps to monitor the animal movements in the area by Saturday evening. Roshini's family will receive Rs 50,000 as immediate compensation, with an additional Rs 9.5 lakh expected to be disbursed on Sunday under Tamil Nadu's human-wildlife conflict relief provisions. Official sources said that no bloodstains were initially found at the site due to light drizzle at the time of the attack, complicating the tracking. A local estate worker claimed to have seen the leopard dragging the child, but the dense terrain and presence of other wildlife made the operation especially challenging. The estate has a number of migrant labourers and their families living there. Many have only recently relocated to Valparai for seasonal work. The official said they have started awareness campaigns and urged families not to allow young children outdoors unaccompanied, especially during early morning and evening hours.

KP, J'khand cops bust Bokaro illegal arms unit
Kolkata: Kolkata and Jharkhand cops, in a joint operation, busted an improvised firearms manufacturing unit in Bokaro in the early hours of Saturday. The Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police, Jharkhand Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and Gandhinagar Police, raided a warehouse in front of Kaberi Marriage Hall at Jaridih Uppar Bazar. Two individuals were caught manufacturing illegal firearms. The entire operation, including exchange of firearms, was being run from the marriage hall. The suspects were identified as Keshav Kumar, 35, from Khagaria, Bihar, and Praven Kumar, 53, from Munger, also in Bihar. Cops recovered an extensive cache of weapons and manufacturing equipment, including six semi-finished pistols, nine pistol bodies, six pistol sliders, and thirteen pistol barrel plates. Additionally, cops seized approximately Rs 1,00,000 in cash and specialised tools used in firearms manufacturing. This marks the 18th successful joint operation by the Kolkata Police STF in neighbouring states in past three years.

Two Pune cops suspended for extorting money from two on Law College Road
Two policemen have been suspended from service for allegedly extorting money from a man and his friend on the Law College Road in Pune city. The two had filed a complaint against the policemen identified as Ganesh Desai and Yogesh Surat, both attached to the Deccan police station in Pune. According to the police, a man was talking to his woman friend in a car on the Law College Road on Tuesday night. Desai and Sutar were on patrolling duty in this area. They allegedly threatened to file a case against the two and demanded Rs 20,000 for not taking the matter to the police station. The two cops allegedly took the man to an ATM centre near Kamla Nehru Park and forced him to withdraw the money. They let the man go after taking money from him. Later, the man and his friend went to the police station and filed a complaint against the two policemen. Senior police inspector Girisha Nimbalkar of Deccan police station conducted an inquiry against the two policemen. The inquiry report was submitted to Deputy Commissioner of Police Nikhil Pingle. Based on the findings of the inquiry, the two cops were suspended from service on Friday. Earlier this month, a case has been registered against a policeman for allegedly extorting money from a Chennai-based teenager who came to Bopdev Ghat area in Pune for taking photos. The teenager had lodged the FIR against the accused police constable and his friend at the Kondhwa police station. Subsequently, the policeman was suspended from service.
