Emirates NBD Partners with iPiD to Enhance Payment Safety with Global Payee Verification - Middle East Business News and Information
Dubai, United Arab Emirates, May 2025: Emirates NBD, a leading banking group in the Middle East, North Africa, and Türkiye (MENAT) region, has announced its partnership with iPiD, a global Know Your Payee (KYP) validation provider. The collaboration will enable Emirates NBD to provide real-time beneficiary validation for cross-border payments. With this solution, customers can verify payee names, IBANs and account numbers in real time, before a payment is made. This will help reduce fraud, prevent transaction failures due to inaccurate details and boost efficiency.
By integrating iPiD's solution, Emirates NBD strengthens its fraud prevention strategy while laying the groundwork for scalable payee verification across global markets. This collaboration underscores Emirates NBD's leadership in embracing innovative and advanced technologies to offer a safer banking experience.

Mohamed Mandour As part of its active participation in the 2025 Islamic Book Fair (IBF) in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, the Muslim Council of Elders organized an intellectual seminar titled 'Promoting Digital Awareness and the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence' during the fair's opening day. The seminar witnessed notable attendance, particularly from youth and individuals interested in the intersection of modern technology with human and religious values. The seminar began with a keynote address by His Excellency Prof. Dr. Muhammad Quraish Shihab, a renowned exegete of the Quran, former Indonesian Minister of Religious Affairs, and member of the Muslim Council of Elders. In his remarks, Prof. Shihab emphasized that Islam does not separate knowledge from ethics, noting that the first revealed verse—'Read in the name of your Lord'—establishes a foundational link between science and moral responsibility. He warned that without a grounding in spiritual and human values, science and technology, including artificial intelligence, could become tools of misguidance rather than enlightenment. He further cautioned against relying on AI for issuing legal or religious verdicts, as the data it relies on may stem from cultural and religious contexts that do not align with Islamic traditions. Dr. Caraka highlighted several ethical challenges associated with AI, including violations of privacy, excessive cognitive reliance on technology, and the environmental impact of server operations. He called for fostering a culture of responsible and mindful technology use and advocated for the development of ethical and intellectual frameworks grounded in religious values. In a remarkable intervention, His Excellency Prof. Dr. Pratikno, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, underlined the need for comprehensive digital sovereignty to confront the challenges of artificial intelligence—starting with the development of localized content. He warned that the absence of local content in AI datasets could distort religious concepts and erode cultural identity. EGPC & Petrobel Begin Production at Zohr 6 Gas Field
The Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation and Petrobel have started production at the Zohr 6 field, targeting 40–50 million cubic feet of gas per day to help stabilise Egypt's energy supply. Jun 20, 2025 The Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) and Petrobel have begun natural gas production from the Zohr 6 field in the Mediterranean Sea, with initial output estimated between 40 and 50 million cubic feet per day starting in June. The new production comes as part of a broader strategy to increase domestic gas supply and reduce reliance on imports, particularly for electricity generation and industrial Zohr 6 field was prepared for operation following the arrival of a drilling vessel in January and the completion of key water leakage mitigation procedures, including chemical injection and well isolation measures designed to ensure production remains central to Egypt's long-term energy strategy. Since the start of its development with Italian energy giant Eni, the field has attracted total investments of approximately USD 39 billion, with USD 13.5 billion specifically allocated to field development. Current production from the Zohr field ranges between 1.1 and 1.2 billion cubic feet per day, accounting for around 30% of Egypt's total natural gas launch of Zohr 6 aligns with ongoing offshore exploration and drilling activity in the Mediterranean. Between July 2024 and May 2025, eight new wells were drilled and another eight evaluated across various offshore blocks. Five new gas discoveries were made during the current fiscal year, which are expected to feed into Egypt's medium-term energy declining output from mature fields has prompted Egypt to import around 1.6 billion cubic feet of gas per day through LNG shipments and regional pipelines, currently meeting 25 to 30% of the country's overall gas demand. The new output from Zohr 6 is part of efforts to reduce that reliance and stabilise domestic energy availability.
