England endured at least an hour without wicket on Day 1 of the first Test against India at Headingley in Leeds on Friday. Having won the toss, England decided to bowl against the Shubman Gill-led India.
Their desire to pick up a wicket didn't materialise as KL Rahul and Yashaswi Jaiswal batted resolutely. The right-left combination went after the full length deliveries and were cautious against the balls that were shorter.

The desperateness for a wicket became apparent in the 13th over when a Josh Tongue delivery pinged Jaiswal on the pad. The yorker caught the left-handed Jaiswal by surprise and he was unable to fend it off.
England appealed but were turned down.

Social media users were left baffled by England's decision to go for a review. One said, "England and their obsession with terrible DRS calls... what are they even thinking?" while another questioned why DRS was taken without a consideration. "This DRS only goes to show how diabolically atrocious Stokes and England have been with reviews off late.
That in no way prompted even a discussion, let alone a review. Smith and Stokes have to be much better with these going forward," they said.
India have lined up for the first Test with debutant Sai Sudharsan and new captain Gill occupying number three and four spots in the batting line-up, thus marking the start of a new era.
