Dubai, UAE – A new analysis by Dubai Chamber of Commerce, one of the three chambers operating under the umbrella of Dubai Chambers, has revealed that Indian-owned businesses topped the list of non-Emirati companies joining the chamber in Q1 2025. A total of 4,543 new members from India joined during the three-month period, representing year-over-year (YoY) growth of 4.4% and underlining the vital economic role played by Indian companies as Dubai's largest foreign business community. Pakistan followed in second place, with 2,154 new companies registering as members of the chamber during the first quarter of the year. 1,362 new Egyptian companies joined the chamber, placing the country third among the top nationalities of new member companies. The number of new companies from Bangladesh achieved significant year-over-year growth of 28.5%, with 817 new companies registering as members of the chamber. The United Kingdom ranked fifth with 678 new companies, while Syria secured sixth place on the list with 462 new member companies. Companies from Jordan claimed the seventh spot, with 350 new companies joining the chamber's membership. China ranked eighth on the list, with 347 new Chinese companies registering as members of the chamber. Türkiye secured the ninth spot with 329 new members, while Iraq came tenth with 303 new companies. New Corporate Sectors: In terms of the sectoral distribution of new member companies joining the chamber during Q1 2025, the wholesale and retail trade sector ranked first, accounting for 36.2% of new registrations. The real estate, renting, and business services sector came in second place, representing 35.4% of the total. This was followed by the construction sector in third place at 16.7%, and the social and personal services sector, which ranked fourth with 7.7%. The transport, storage, and communications sector secured fifth place on the list with 7.5%.

Egypt implements solar power, conservation measures at new government hub
Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has reviewed new measures to reduce electricity consumption at the Government District in the New Administrative Capital, where a solar power system has now been activated across all government buildings and connected to the national grid. During a meeting on Monday, Madbouly stated that improving electricity efficiency must coincide with the operation of new and renewable energy projects to reduce reliance on traditional fuels. The meeting was attended by Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat, Deputy Head of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority Maj. Gen. Mohamed Sayed, and other officials. Cabinet Spokesperson Mohamed El-Homossany said the prime minister was briefed on a detailed plan to rationalise electricity use in the ministries and government bodies located in the new district. According to the Ministry of Electricity, the plan includes several key procedures for government buildings. These involve completely shutting off power after official working hours, replacing all non-efficient light bulbs with LED alternatives, and raising employee awareness about the importance of conservation as part of the government's efforts to ensure a sustainable electricity supply. Ahmed Fahmy, General Manager at the Administrative Capital for Urban Development company, confirmed the solar power system is now fully operational. He added that the solar panels undergo routine cleaning twice a month by the district's operations and maintenance alliance to ensure they maintain high productivity. Minister of Electricity Mahmoud Essmat noted that the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company has been directed to implement an urgent action plan to rationalise energy use across the entire sector. He said that public cooperation could significantly lower consumption rates and reduce dependence on conventional fuels. The minister clarified that raising awareness about conservation is a shared responsibility and 'does not mean an inability to provide electricity.' He also highlighted ongoing, round-the-clock coordination with the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources to secure the country's power supply, alongside efforts to enhance other renewable energy projects.

Egypt, China agree to boost economic ties, organise investment forum
Egypt and China have agreed to strengthen economic cooperation in key sectors such as electric vehicles, electronics, and artificial intelligence, and will coordinate to organise an investment promotion forum in Egypt, the Egyptian Investment Ministry said in a Monday statement. The agreement came during a meeting in Beijing between Egyptian Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Hassan El-Khatib and Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao. The two sides agreed to enhance cooperation in several fields, including electric cars, feeder industries, electronics, water desalination, solar panels, and artificial intelligence. They also agreed to collaborate on strengthening supply chains. Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao praised the bilateral trade volume, which has reached $17bn, affirming that China remains Egypt's largest trading partner. He highlighted successful investment cooperation in the TEDA-Suez zone, which has attracted significant Chinese investment, alongside major projects implemented by Chinese firms, including the Iconic Tower and Central Business District in the New Administrative Capital, the electric train, and renewable energy projects. Wang also stressed his keenness to enhance cooperation in e-commerce, infrastructure, and renewable energy. For his part, Minister El-Khatib emphasised the importance of maximising the strategic partnership through joint investments, particularly amid global economic fluctuations. He promoted Egypt's competitive advantages, including its strategic location and numerous trade agreements, which position it as an ideal hub for production and export for Chinese companies seeking access to regional and global markets. El-Khatib said he looked forward to an expected visit by the Chinese Premier to Egypt next month, which he said would be an opportunity to translate agreements into tangible projects. He also noted Egypt's commitment to improving its investment climate and adhering to World Trade Organization rules. During the meeting, El-Khatib reviewed the outcomes of the ninth session of the Egypt-China joint committee held last December and proposed that the tenth session be held in Egypt this year. He stressed the importance of increasing the trade volume to reflect the depth of the two countries' economic ties.
