
FMPL Season 1 set to ignite Sharjah with cricket, camaraderie, and corporate spirit
Cricket fever is all set to grip Sharjah as FMPL (Facility Management Premier League) Season 1 kicks off on June 13 and 14, 2025, at the DCS You Selects Arena, starting from 5pm onwards. A one-of-a-kind T10 cricket tournament, FMPL brings together leading facility management companies in the UAE for an unforgettable sporting showdown.
Organised by Trendz Events powered by Farnek, FMPL isn't just a tournament; it's a celebration of the companies that work behind the scenes to make everyday living seamless. The idea was envisioned by Karthik Vijayamani, managing director of Trendz Events, who strongly felt it was time to shine a spotlight on these corporate warriors by letting them battle it out where competition meets camaraderie, on the cricket field.
The buzz for FMPL Season 1 was ignited on May 23, 2025 with a pre-launch event held at Korma Sutra Restaurant. The event saw enthusiastic participation from team representatives.
The eight teams ready to turn DCS You Selects Arena into a cricketing battlefield are: Transguard Group, Khansaheb FM, Engie Solutions, Whitespot FM, Al Tanmyah, GECO ME, Serve U, and Clairvoyant Technical Solutions. Team captains proudly selected their jersey colors, which they'll wear with pride as they compete.
Eight teams, three matches per corporate, and ten overs of pure adrenaline, where leading facility management companies clash, not in boardrooms but on the cricket field. Each team will play a minimum of three matches, leading up to the grand finale.
The event was graced by a distinguished panel including UAE national cricket team Captain CP Rizwan; Ahmed Abdeltawab, co-founder O-Gold App; Manish Dhuliya, global sales head SmartCricket Global Ltd; Ajmal Masahir,CEO You Selects Events LLC; Shibu Jacob, CEO of Uniformly Designs; and Vinu Vijayan, CEO of DCS You Select Arena.
The winning team will walk away not only with the FMPL Champion Trophy but also a cash prize of Dh5,000. Let the games begin!

Sanjay Sudhir, Indian Ambassador to the UAE, presented Zayne with the award and said, 'We are celebrating Zayne's achievement and yoga together. Yoga teaches us focus, balance, and discipline. His story inspires all of us.' For the record holder, the recognition was deeply personal. 'Today is also UAE Father's Day, and UAE is like my home,' he said. 'It's a gift for my father. It's a great feeling to receive this award on such a special day.' Hundreds of schoolchildren from various institutions arrived at 5:30pm, eager to participate and learn the ancient wellness practice. Instructors led the crowd through accessible postures, while health experts spoke about yoga's long-term benefits, including helping manage digestive issues and hernia when practised regularly under guidance. Meenakshi Raman, a Sharjah resident who attended with her 12-year-old daughter, said: 'We do yoga at home every morning, but today felt very special. Practicing in a large group like this gives you more energy. You meet others who are also passionate about wellness, and you pick up new techniques.' As Danube Sports World in Dubai, an event was hosted indoors, in collaboration with the Dubai Sports Council. The event welcomed over 300 participants, including families, children, seasoned practitioners, and wellness influencers. The evening's focus was on breathing exercises and deep relaxation techniques. Anis Sajan, Vice Chairman of Danube Group, who is also a regular yoga practitioner, said, 'The breathing session was incredibly powerful. In our fast-paced lives, we forget to pause. Yoga teaches us to breathe right, and that one habit can change your life.' 'Yoga is more than movement. It is reflection, it is grounding, and it is a path to healing, both individually and collectively. With so much happening around us globally, it is essential that we pause, reflect, and come together to heal as a community,' said Sajan. GCC tourism spending projected to hit $223.7 bn by 2034
The Statistical Centre for the Cooperation Council for the Arab Countries of the Gulf (GCC-Stat) has released data showing visitor spending in GCC countries is expected to reach $223.7 billion by 2034. The projections indicate that incoming visitor spending will contribute 13.4 percent to total exports by 2034, according to a statement by the Emirates News Agency (WAM), which cited the Centre's latest analysis. GCC visitor spending jumps 28.9% since 2019 to reach $135.5 billion GCC countries have recorded progress across multiple tourism indicators, with international visitor spending reaching $135.5 billion in 2023. This figure represents a 28.9 percent increase compared to spending recorded in 2019. The region has secured the top position in the Middle East and North Africa's 2024 Safety and Security Index. All GCC member states scored above the regional average of 5.86 points on the index, which operates on a scale from 1 to 7 points. GCC countries have also achieved recognition for passport strength, with all six nations ranking among the top performers in the Arab region for passport power. The Centre's data highlights the tourism sector's growing contribution to the GCC economy, with visitor spending showing recovery and growth following the 2019 baseline period.
