Scottish auction house on course to hit record turnover

Since Prime Property Auctions was set up in 2022 by Glasgow businessmen John Morris and Luis Guarin it has seen revenues build consistently, with the current financial year 'promising to be the best yet'.
Turnover at year end October 31, 2024 was £1.5 million which represented 90.5 per cent growth on the firm's first year, at £764,700.
The trajectory for the same time this year is sitting at £2.4m, and is 'buoyed by a strong performance' from the turn of the year.

Prime offers listings on commercial, residential and land and operates throughout Scotland as well as England and Wales from its headquarters in West Regent Street in the centre of Glasgow.
It has a database of more than 20,000 buyers with more than 600 auction lots sold in the UK since 2022.
Mr Morris said: 'When Luis and I started out on this journey our intention was to demonstrate that auction is a route that people can go down for selling property. Not every property is appropriate for auction but it does serve a purpose and is becoming increasingly popular as is evidenced by our strong financial position as we move through our current financial year.
'Our growth has been pretty much organic and based on referrals, which is very pleasing and shows that people put their trust in what we do – and that is selling their property quickly for the price they want.
'We have doubled in size every year but we are not stopping here. We are consistently investing back into the business, including our systems and staff. We have grown steadily since forming and we want to continue that trend.
'With the people we have working for us and the application we all put in, we are confident that is going to happen. This is only the beginning of what is going to be an exciting journey.'

The budget supermarket is expanding its portfolio across Scotland and UK. Aldi is expanding its UK portfolio by announcing a list of 20 potential locations for new stores. Included among them was one much-loved Scottish seaside town. The budget German supermarket has revealed that Largs in North Ayrshire is one of its "priority locations", as it seeks sites for new stores in a multi-million pound investment to bring its budget prices to more people. ‌ According to Aldi, the potential location for a new site should be able to accommodate a 20,000 sqft store with around 100 parking spaces, with access to a main road that offers good access and visibility being desirable. ‌ As the UK's fourth largest supermarket, the discounted retailer currently operates more than 1,050 stores across the UK, with 109 based in Scotland alone. However, the firm has set its sights on expanding even further, as it has invested £650million this year alone into opening new stores, with a long-term goal of 1,500 overall. And Largs, known for its Viking history as well as top class ice cream and fish and chips, appears earmarked for one of the new sites, providing a suitable spot can be found in the town. Jonathan Neale, Managing Director of National Real Estate at Aldi UK, said: "We want to make high-quality, affordable food accessible to everyone, and that means opening new stores in the communities that need them most. "The response from the public has been invaluable in helping us identify where demand is greatest, and where we need to focus our efforts on finding the sites that can become new stores." ‌ It comes after it was announced that four Scottish Aldi stores were set for a "refresh" over the summer months, with the move affecting Inverness, Ayr, Cowdenbeath, and Cupar. The plan would see each store undergo a set of refurbishments and enhancements that would "enhance the customer experience." ‌ Alongside refurbishing the Scottish based stores, the discounted supermarket also announced that it would be expanding even further with 10 new stores this summer across West Yorkshire, the Midlands and London. It also comes after we reported that Aldi has resubmitted plans to Perth and Kinross Council for a £4.8 million new store on Necessity Brae replacing the existing one on Glasgow Road. While the plans were initially approved unanimously by councillors in May 2022 and February 2023, they were quickly quashed by Tesco and the Court of Session in April 26, 2024. ‌ It marks the third time the firm has resubmitted plans, and it came after it had been "inundated" with support from over 800 Perth residents who signed a petition to get the new Aldi. Community pub developed from old school in Perth and Kinross opens

The CornerStone Rannoch will officially open on Sunday, June 22. Formerly known as The Hub, the community-owned bar and restaurant will welcome the Kinloch Rannoch community in for a sneak peak on Saturday afternoon before officially opening to the wider public from 10am on Sunday. Back in September 2022, Rannoch Community Trust was granted planning permission to develop an £830,000 community hub in a former outdoors centre and school. READ MORE: SNP MSP Fergus Ewing to stand as independent at next Scottish Parliament election The consent was branded a 'major milestone' as the trust then sought to secure the remainder of the funding needed to complete the project at the Victorian building on Allt Mor Place. Originally built as the village school in 1840, it closed when a new school was opened in Kinloch Rannoch in 1965. In the 1980s it was transformed into a residential outdoors centre until Perth and Kinross Council deemed it 'surplus to requirement' and closed it in 2019. In July 2020, Perth and Kinross councillors voted to sell the former outdoors centre for £75,000 to Rannoch Community Trust to transform it into a multi-purpose facility for the community. A year later – in July 2021 – ownership of the building and grounds was legally transferred from Perth and Kinross Council (PKC) to Rannoch Community Trust. (Image: The CornerStone) Planning permission for the trust to develop it into a community-owned bar/restaurant was granted in September 2022, under delegated powers. The CornerStone features a social enterprise café/bar, manager's accommodation, office space, a meeting room, an outdoor seating area, new footbridge and a playpark. It will be run by a mixture of both paid and volunteer staff. The building was designed by Perth-based Studio East Architects to be 'as energy efficient as possible'. A spokesperson for The CornerStone said: 'Initially, we will be serving drinks only, until we hook a great chef onboard, so until then you can enjoy local beers on tap and so much more, we can't wait to host you in the heart of our village.' Highland Perthshire ward councillor John Duff is delighted and said it looks 'fabulous'. The Conservative councillor said: 'I am delighted that the aspirations of the community have been achieved and that it will soon have this excellent venue for locals and visitors to come together, relax and socialise. 'The conversion of the former outdoor centre looks fabulous and I applaud the continued efforts of the community to deliver this exceptional facility providing food, drink, meeting and work space. I look forward to visiting the CornerStone myself in the near future.' Rannoch Community Trust was awarded £134,660 from the Scottish Government's Scottish Land Fund Award to cover the purchase of the building, legal expenses and essential repairs. It also received £250,000 from the UK Government's Community Ownership Fund and £308,000 from the Scottish Government's Place Based Investment Programme, which is aimed at supporting community-led regeneration.

Bosses at the pub chain confirmed the plan for closure follows a "commercial decision", the Glasgow Times reports. It will close down in January next year. Staff at the beloved pub will be offered jobs at other Wetherspoon branches. Locals were left gutted by the news and flocked to social media to share their disappointment. One person said: "Aw I'm gonna miss this place. Going to leave a big hole for a lot of people." Another wrote: "Met some nice folk in there over the years. What a shame." A third added: "Nothing left in Cumbernauld." While a fourth commented: "We had some good breakfasts and pitchers there." A Wetherspoons spokesperson said: "We can confirm that The Carrick Stone will close in January. The Sun tries Wetherspoons' new menu "This is a commercial decision made by the company. "We understand that staff and customers will be disappointed with the decision and thank them for their loyal service and custom. "All staff will be offered jobs at other Wetherspoon pubs." It comes after a popular Scottish Wetherspoons pub with a unique history was named among the best in the UK. The Caley Picture House is the biggest in Edinburgh and looks like something from The Great Gatsby. And it has been named in the top 10 best branches across the country.
