Ex-Mediacorp actress Le Yao makes introspective post after Ian Fang's conviction, Entertainment News

Former Mediacorp actress Le Yao has made an introspective post after Ian Fang was sentenced to jail for sexual offences against a minor.
In an Instagram post today (May 20), the 42-year-old, also known as Zully Le, wrote that celebrity status is a "double-edged sword".
"You want to enjoy the benefits from the limelight but don't set strict standards for yourself? You want to have social influence and make a lot of money, but don't obey the law and be a good citizen?" she added.
"It's impossible to be so greedy as to 'have it all'."
Le Yao wrote that she had recently read some local news that made her emotional. Though she did not mention Ian by name in her post, she later told 8World that it was because of his conviction.
The 35-year-old former Mediacorp actor pleaded guilty to three charges of sexual penetration of a girl under 16. Three similar charges were taken into consideration for sentencing, along with one count of obstructing justice and one count of stalking.
He received 40 months' jail on May 19, with his sentence expected to start in June.
Ian was an acting teacher with a modelling school during the time of his offences, where he was teaching children aged four to 14.
"Every adult is a role model and mentor for the younger generation. Children will look at things naively and believe in their teachers," Le Yao wrote. "Parents also teach them this way: Listen to teachers.
"So as a practitioner in the education industry and a mother, I firmly resist people with bad morals entering the education industry. "
Le Yao pursued a diploma in the Teaching Chinese Language course at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in 2010 and currently teaches at a speech and drama centre.
She added that people may firstly "not have the professional knowledge to teach" but secondly, if they have "bad conduct", they should avoid the industry to "not bring irreparable harm to the new generation of young people".

Le Yao started her showbiz career with Mediacorp after placing as a finalist in Star Search 2001. Her acting credits include The Unbeatables III (2002), Holland V (2003), The Oath (2011) and My Friends from Afar (2017).

BTS member Suga discharged from South Korean military service

K-pop group BTS member Suga finished his military tenure as a social service agent on June 21. PHOTO: AGUSTD/INSTAGRAM SEOUL - K-pop group BTS member Suga was discharged from the South Korean military on June 21 , the seventh and final member to complete the country's mandatory national service amid expectations of the band's comeback from a hiatus. Suga finished his military tenure as a social service agent on June 21 with little fanfare as fans looked forward to his reunion with the rest of the band, a K-pop sensation since it started up in 2013. 'We confirm that Suga effectively completed his alternative service on June 18 by using his remaining leave. His official discharge date is June 21,' BTS' label, Big Hit Music, said in a statement. Unlike with his BTS bandmates, there was no public event planned to mark Suga's release because of overcrowding concerns. The seven members of the group put their global music careers on hold in 2022 to begin their military service, starting with Jin in December that year. South Korea's mandatory national service can be for terms of up to 18 months. Shortly after his official discharge, Suga posted a message on fan community platform Weverse, saying he was 'sorry for the disappointment and concern caused by what happened last year', and also apologising to his bandmates. In 2024, Suga was fined 15 million won (S$14,037) by a court for drunk driving while on an electric scooter. The group is expected to hold its largest-ever world tour in 2026, an NH Securities entertainment analyst said in a report. Entertainment group HYBE, which manages BTS, is closely monitored by securities companies. Details of a reunion have not been released. 'A source of love, joy and kindness': Mediacorp baking show contestant dies aged 35, husband pays tribute, Entertainment News

Michelle Goh, the owner of 2112 Bakery at Bugis, has died at the age of 35 on June 17. The mother-of-two had joined season 2 of Mediacorp baking show 'Creme De La Creme' in 2024, and was placed sixth out of eight contestants on the show. Her husband, who only gave his name as Ken, announced her death in a post on the bakery's social media accounts on the same day. "It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that I share the passing of my beloved wife, Michelle Goh, who left us on June 17, 2025," he wrote. "She was a source of love, joy and kindness, and her memory will forever remain in our hearts. While words cannot express the pain of this loss, we find comfort in remembering the beautiful life she lived and the love she shared with all who knew her." He added in his post that she would be cremated at Mandari Crematorium Hall today (June 21). Michelle's cause of death is unknown and she leaves behind her husband and two young children. Michelle shared that she started her business as a home-based bakery in 2019, after leaving her job as a nail technician, reported 8days. At the time, she was diagnosed with depression and found comfort in baking. She later opened a bakery in Toa Payoh, and subsequently relocated to OG Bugis in December 2024 due to poor business. She also has a rojak and popiah stall at Yew Tee Square, and a snack stall at Bukit Canberra Hawker Centre, which is operated by her mother. It is currently unclear if the businesses will continue to operate. Despite participating in Mediacorp's baking competition show, the exposure did not result in more sales for her bakery and she lost $19,000 from her Toa Payoh bakery, she told 8days. She added that her husband had asked then if she wanted to shutter the business, but she "didn't want to waste [her] efforts" and needed time. In December 2024, Michelle posted a TikTok and Instagram Reel and spoke about her struggles in operating a business. She said tearfully in the Reel: "To be honest, having a business is serving us right, because we could have just gone out and work. But [operating a business] is all about our commitment, passion and being proud of ourselves and making my parents and my kids proud." She added: "I feel good whenever I leave the shop at night. I kept smiling to myself knowing that this is how far [I had come]. But there is too much stress going on." @ Not negative but just real feeling. ♬ original sound - 2112 Bakery [[nid:718794]] Samaritans of Singapore: 1800-221-4444 Singapore Association for Mental Health: 1800-283-7019 Care Corner Counselling Centre (Mandarin): 1800-353-5800 Institute of Mental Health's Mental Health Helpline: 6389-2222 Silver Ribbon: 6386-1928 Shan You Counselling Centre (Mandarin): 6741-0078 Fei Yue's Online Counselling Service: Tinkle Friend (for primary school children): 1800-2744-788

Fan gets three-year ban for racially abusing player on Instagram

A fan who racially abused former Tamworth striker Chris Wreh after the fifth-tier club's FA Cup defeat to Tottenham Hotspur has been banned from attending matches for three years, the Football Association said on Friday. Harry Dunbar, of John Bunyan Close in Whiteley, admitted to sending a racist message to Wreh, who is Black, via Instagram after losing a bet on the match, which Tamworth lost 3-0 to Tottenham in the FA Cup third round on 12 January. Dunbar, 20, was sentenced at Portsmouth Magistrates Court on Wednesday. In addition to the banning order, Dunbar will serve a 12-month Community Order of 200 hours unpaid work and 10 Rehabilitation Activity Requirement days. "We welcome the decision of Portsmouth Magistrates' Court to impose a three-year football banning order on Harry Dunbar," the FA said in a statement. "We hope that this ruling sends a clear message that incidents of discrimination – whether in person or online – will not be tolerated, and that strong action will be taken against perpetrators of this unacceptable behaviour." Wreh refused to play for the National League side following the incident. He wrote on X, two days after the match that though he had the support of manager Andy Peaks, he was "disappointed" the club had not made a public statement condemning the abuse he had suffered.
