Whirl-wind performance from O'Brien filly in Musidora
A market drifter before the off, the daughter of Wootton Bassett was sent off at 7-2 in the hands of Coolmore number one Ryan Moore, who was positive out of the stalls and never too far away from the pace.
It was Ralph Beckett's Sandown winner Tattycoram that led the field of Classic aspirants into the straight, but Whirl was hot on her tail, with Moore soon allowing his mount to stride on up the long run for home on the Knavesmire.
The further she went, the better Whirl got as she sauntered to a five-and-a-half-length success over Andrew Balding's Serenity Prayer, who made late ground from the back of the field.

Paddy Power trimmed the winner's odds for the Betfred Oaks to 10-1 from 33-1, but part-owner Michael Tabor suggested she is far from certain to head for Epsom.
He said: 'Ryan said before the race his plan was to bump her out and get a good position and if they caught her, then so be it.
'I don't think anyone expected that (performance) particularly, but Aidan seems to be able to do that, as we know.
'I don't really think that Whirl is an Oaks filly. I think she'd probably get a mile and a half, but over a mile and a quarter, something like the Prix de Diane, I think, would be more suitable, but I haven't discussed it with Derrick (Smith) or John (Magnier) or Aidan, so that's just my thinking.'
On what trip would be most suitable for Whirl, Moore added: 'She's by Wootton Bassett, so you can kind of do most things.
'She was very comfortable stepping up to that trip today and I thought she was impressive.
'She's very straightforward, was always travelling nicely, she didn't do a whole lot in front but she kept responding and I thought it was a nice performance.'
Andrew Balding's wife and assistant Anna-Lisa said of the runner-up: 'What a star she is, she's a lovely big filly. She struggled to go with them early as they went very quick but this is only her second run. To beat the fillies she has beaten is exciting. She's come a long way in a short time.

'I'd imagine it will be the Ribblesdale (at Royal Ascot) next, but I just put the saddle on! We'll all have a good chat tomorrow but there's lots to look forward to.'
Dual Lingfield winner Go Go Boots was third on her turf debut for John and Thady Gosden. Gosden senior said: 'We're delighted with the filly, she ran a very good race. She had a little trouble getting out of a pocket but she's run very nicely.
'She's learned a lot there, that's her first run on grass. That's what's happened this year, she's done two pieces of work on grass and everything else has been on the all-weather.
'We'll see what we want to do over the next few days but we are probably pointing towards the Ribblesdale, that looks the logical thing to do and we couldn't be happier with the run. She showed a great attitude, the second filly is nice and they were a long way clear of the fourth.
'These fillies are having to learn a lot very quickly and she probably got onto the course wondering what was underneath her feet!'

‘A giant of the game' – Willie Mullins adds his tribute to Kevin Prendergast
Willie Mullins has added his tribute to Kevin Prendergast, following the multiple Classic-winning trainer's death on Friday at the age of 92. Prendergast – son of the legendary Paddy 'Darkie' Prendergast – was a hugely popular and respected figure, landing the last of his Classic successes with Awtaad in the Irish 2,000 Guineas in 2016. 'I was sorry to hear about Kevin. He was a tremendous trainer, who always had a word for you,' said Mullins, the reigning champion National Hunt trainer in Ireland and Britain. 'He had an opinion on everything and that opinion was valued by people because he'd been through it, he knew the good days and he knew the bad days. 'He was a tremendous character who will be sadly missed. A proper giant of the game, he did the hard work and he knew everything about the game.' Former trainer Mick Halford, who now represents Joseph O'Brien on racecourses, said: 'Kevin was a master on the Curragh when I started. He was somebody I always looked up to, his horses were always a credit to him. 'He was a great man to talk to, a great man for advice, and for a bit of slagging! 'He was a lovely man and I had a lot of time for him, and he will be sadly missed on the Curragh. 'He led a full life, he was a great example to us all.'

Trawlerman triumph highlights fruitful Royal Ascot for Gosden team
Field Of Gold and Ombudsman had already produced sublime performances in the St James's Palace Stakes and Prince of Wales's Stakes respectively during the first two days of the Royal meeting, but the elusive Gold Cup victory for the Clarehaven team's staying stalwart rubber stamped a stellar five days. Thady Gosden said: 'It's been a terrific week and I think the highlight must be Trawlerman. he's been in the yard five years, he's by Golden Horn and he wears his heart on his sleeve. 'He's the most genuine horse and in his races he will do everything, but when you're with him in person he is a kind, sweet, gentle soul, and for him to run the race he did having coming second last year – what a fantastic result for the horse and for the sport.' The Gosden team finished the week with five winners, the same number as O'Brien, but took the prize due to on extra silver medal they picked up through the week. Gosden Sr has previously won the award twice on his own and praised his son Thady after winning the award for a second time as a training partnership. John Gosden – who registered his 70th Royal Ascot winner this week – said: 'Our week started very strongly with the right races and everyone working at home had the horses spot-on. 'They've run very well since, finishing second and third and second and third, and that of course counts towards winning this when you're at five winners all with Aidan O'Brien. 'Thady has been with me about eight years already – and the rest – so, poor chap, it must be getting a bit annoying! 'But there is nothing like this meeting, it's our Olympics, and it's great to win this. Without him I wouldn't be as on the ball at all. It's been a great combination.'
