There are grand store opening events. And then there are JD Sports opening events. The spotlight fell on Manchester's Trafford Centre Saturday (7 June) where over 1,000 shoppers turned up for the opening of JD's biggest ever store (41,000 sq ft), led by eight-time gold medalist athletics superstar Usain Bolt supported by YouTube group Beta Squad.
Describing it as its 'ultimate destination for fresh fits and exclusive flex' the store becomes a blueprint for JD's international retail expansion.
The store follows a revamp and upsize of its previous Trafford Centre location, tripling its size. It also features the largest store front in the global JD Sports store estate spanning 302 feet.
The store also features over 270 digital screens; over 400 sq m of LED; a 104 metre-long digital screen spanning across the bulkhead. It also features special takeover areas from Nike, Adidas, Puma and On Running along with JD brand exclusives including Unlike Humans.
The opening day showcase featured the 'Nike AM95: The Vault', allowing shoppers to buy very-limited-edition pairs of AM95 OG Mandarin and AM95 OG Pink Foam sneakers.
JD Sports CEO Régis Schultz, said the opening was a 'proud and landmark moment', adding: 'We see the world through the mindset of our customer, know what they want and set the trends for them. This opening showcases JD's relentless drive to bring our global customers exceptional retail experiences and differentiated product, backed by our strong brand partnerships.
'At the same time, it's a celebration of our roots – Manchester has been close to the heart of JD's journey since we opened our first store in Bury in 1981. As we continue to expand our footprint across the world, the Trafford Centre store represents the future of JD: bold, forward-thinking, and deeply connected to the communities we serve.'
Marcus Briggs, managing director at Pradera Lateral, Trafford Centre's asset management firm, also said ahead of the opening: 'The anticipation and excitement has been building for this opening of JD's Trafford Centre flagship store. The respective property, marketing and design teams have worked extremely hard to deliver a store of global significance for our Trafford Centre visitors and we are all delighted with the outcome. We really value our longstanding partnership with JD.'

My Wildest Prediction: Second season wrap-up
The second season of My Wildest Prediction has come to an end. Over the last eight months, we have delved into the business world through the words of entrepreneurs, researchers, futurists and experts from around the globe. Our goal has been to understand the challenges facing our economy and society, exploring how they affect our lives now and in the years to come. My Wildest Prediction is a podcast series from Euronews Businesswhere we dare to imagine the future with business and tech visionaries. Among other topics, we discussed work. Some guests, like bestselling author Bruce Daisley, painted a pessimistic picture, predicting that 'work will get worse before it gets better'. Others, like futurist Dom Price, offered a more radical point of view, arguing that we will abandon the productivity myth — the idea that constantly working is the key to success. Overall, our guests agreed that work will become increasingly mobile, with entrepreneur Karoli Hindriks arguing that 'passports will be obsolete' and marketing expert Rory Sutherland saying that people will adopt a nomadic lifestyle. We also explored the future of our cities and our relationship with the environment. Urbanist Greg Clark predicted that by 2080, there will be more than 10 billion people on Earth, with 90% living in cities. Additionally, explorer Bertrand Piccard forecast that hydrogen planes will fly commercially by 2035. And of course, artificial intelligence (AI) was extensively discussed in our podcast and remained a polarising topic. Human resources expert Patty McCord believes 'AI will not be the big scary thing we think', while others like professor Scott Galloway predicted that AI will fuel US domestic terrorism. This is just a glimpse of the predictions shared during our season. Watch the wrap-up and listen to the episodes on YouTube or your favourite audio platforms.

Video of Trump announcing ban on US Tesla production is manipulated
"Trump bans Tesla production in the USA," reads an Instagram post shared June 9, 2025. It includes a video that appears to show Trump saying: "Today I am here to announce that I will be banning the production of all Teslas in the United States of America, effective immediately. As everyone knows, Elon stabbed me in the back a couple of days ago and went crazy on his platform, X." Image Screenshot of the false post taken June 18, 2025 The false clip surfaced after the pair's public falling-out, in which the tech billionaire criticised Trump's so-called "big, beautiful" spending bill on his X account and linked the president with disgraced financier and sex Jeffrey Epstein (archived link). Trump fired back with threats to cancel federal contracts with Musk's companies and warned of "serious consequences" if he sought to punish Republicans who voted for the spending bill. Musk later said he regretted some of his posts, saying they "went too far". The video of Trump's supposed announcement of a Tesla production ban spread alongside similar claims on Facebook, X and Instagram. A reverse image search on Google using keyframes from the false video shows a longer version was published June 8, 2025 on an Instagram called DangerousAi (archived link). The caption says: "Donald Trump BANS Production of Tesla in USA after feud with Elon Musk." Image Screenshot comparison of the clip seen in the false post (L) and on the DangerousAi Instagram page The creator regularly shares clips made with AI on Instagram, Facebook and YouTube (archived here, here and here). His YouTube profile says they are "AI Parody Content", and that he creates the videos using "AI for the voiceover". AFP found no credible reports that Trump has banned Tesla vehicle production in the United States. false video appears to be based on footage from a May 30 press conference at the White House during which Trump thanked Musk for his work as outgoing head of the so-called Department of Government Efficiency (archived here and here). AFP has debunked other AI-generated and manipulated content here.

JD Sports marks "key moment for US growth strategy" with Las Vegas flagship opening
Fresh from opening its biggest store ever in Manchester this month, JD Sports at the weekend opened another megastore, this time thousands of miles away with a flagship on Las Vegas Boulevard. The company said the new store will see 'high heat product and brand pop ups' plus 'on-repeat weekend celebrations with big giveaways and pull-ups from cultural icons'. The near-29,000 sq ft store isn't quite as big as Manchester's 41,000 sq ft. But it's pretty massive and as only the third brand flagship in the US (it had 339 JD stores in total across North America ahead of this opening), the company clearly wants to make an equally massive statement. The retailer said the new location'brings the brand's signature retail experience and curated product mix from the world's most influential sportswear brands, linking global style to JD's iconic retail locations around the world'. And John Hall, MD for JD North America, added: 'Las Vegas is known for delivering next-level experiences, making it the perfect location for JD's next US flagship. We're bringing our customers a retail experience that can't be found anywhere else in the market, serving up the freshest and most desirable product from the biggest names in sports fashion. With our new store, we're building on growing momentum across North America to bring customers iconic experiences as we continue to propel youth culture forward, on every corner of the world.' So what characterises the new store apart from its giant size? It features 'one of the most elaborate digital design capabilities of any JD location, allowing for fully immersive storytelling that elevates the customer experience from the moment they enter the store'. The bold double-height shopfront is 'bringing the Las Vegas energy with one of the largest LED displays in JD's North American portfolio'. Inside, shoppers can expect 'hyped drops and only-at-JD brand moments from global sportswear giants such as Nike, Jordan, New Balance, Adidas, On and Asics'. And there are collections from Supply & Demand, New Era, Von Dutch and Hoodrich 'inspired by the iconic destination'. Plus the retailer is promising 'zero hassle' thanks to the in-store product slide system to deliver stock straight to the shop floor. There's also QR code scanning, mobile checkout and click & collect.
