I'm not sure I like the clue 'Savvy' for AWARE but other than that, this was a reasonably straightforward crossword. I don't know 'Top Chef' so I had no idea Lakshmi's first name was PADMA but I filled that in along with 6-Across to wrap things up. A lot of the other stuff I knew — START on a Nintendo, INDIA as the birthplace of Buddhism, YEAST makes bread rise, etc. — but it took me a minute to come up with POPPY and LIMOS, and OWNIT was one I basically had to fill in with other words. This took me 1:33.
