KUALA LUMPUR – A homeless man was sentenced to one year in prison by two Sessions Courts here today for hiding more than RM480,000 in cash belonging to two women, last year.
The sentence was handed down to Marchell Jeff Lee Sin Ket, 39, after he pleaded guilty to two charges before judges Azrul Darus and Hamidah Mat Deril.
Azrul sentenced the accused to a year's jail on the first count while Hamidah sentenced him to eight months jail for the second count.
Both courts ordered the jail term to run from today. A homeless man was sentenced to one year in prison by two Sessions Courts here today for hiding more than RM480,000 in cash belonging to two women, last year.
According to the first charge, Lee was accused of helping to conceal RM314,790 belonging to a 59-year-old investment company owner, which he knew did not belong to him and was used for fraudulent purposes at a condominium unit in Sentul between Nov 18, 2024 and Dec 12, the same year.
For the second charge, he was accused of transferring or concealing RM173,000 belonging to a 49-year-old health product company accounts executive at another condominium unit in Sentul, between Nov 7 and Dec 9, the same year.
Both charges were framed under Section 424 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of five years' imprisonment, or a fine, or both, upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutors M. Saravanan and Raihanah Abd Razak handled the prosecution while the accused was unrepresented.

Tok Singa, 3 other traditional healers jailed for assault causing lecturer's blindness
KOTA BARU: Four traditional medicine practitioners were sentenced to four years in jail by the Sessions Court here today for assaulting a lecturer and causing permanent blindness in his left eye in August 2021. Judge Mohd Zul Zaqikudin Zulkifli handed down the sentence to all four accused, including two known by their aliases, Wea Selamos, whose real name is Mohd Shamsul Izwan Midin, 37, and Tok Singa, whose real name is Muhammad Firdaus Mohd Adnan, 37. The other two accused are Idrees Ishak, 46, and Mohd Eric Mohd Ramli, 39. In his judgment, Mohd Zul Zaqikudin said the defence presented by all four was merely a denial. "As such, all the accused are found guilty and sentenced to three years' imprisonment, effective today," he said. According to the charge, they were accused of voluntarily causing grievous hurt to the victim, Ahmad Shahrill 'Ariff Zainol, 43, which led to permanent blindness in his left eye. The offence took place at a guesthouse on Jalan Sultan Yahya Petra here at about 4am on Aug 5, 2021. All the accused were charged under Section 325 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of seven years and a possible fine upon conviction. Sibu police launch manhunt after rape suspect escapes custody
Buni SIBU (June 22): A 25-year-old Indonesian national remanded in connection with a rape case escaped from Sibu Central police station here at around 4pm yesterday. Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili, in a statement, said the suspect, identified as Buni, was still wearing handcuffs and purple lock-up attire at the time of his escape. 'The suspect was remanded for an investigation under Section 376 (3) of the Penal Code Act for rape. 'We launched Op Kesan immediately, involving all elements to trace the suspect,' he said.
