India's Russia Arms Ties 'Rubs US Wrong Way', Says Official | S-400 Deal Still On
US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick has stated that India's military reliance on Russia 'rubbed America the wrong way' in the past, affecting strategic ties. Speaking at the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum, he said things are now changing as India moves towards purchasing more US arms. His remarks come shortly after Russia confirmed delivery of the final S-400 missile system units to India by 2026. Is India walking a tightrope between Moscow and Washington? And what does this mean for Indo-US ties, BRICS diplomacy, and arms purchases going forward? #s400 #indiaustradetalks #howardlutnick #usindiastrategicforum #indiausdefence #brics #russiaindiaarmsdeal #dollarhegemony #indiausrelations #modibiden #militarygear #indiarussia #usarmsdeal #toi #toibharat

SK Group chairman calls for AI-led growth amid industrial revolution

Seoul: SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won has called for a stronger focus on artificial intelligence (AI) as a new growth engine, urging the group to take a leading role in the AI-driven industrial revolution, the company said on Sunday. "The sustainable survival of companies depends on how they adapt to AI," Chey was quoted as saying during a recent groupwide business strategy meeting. "We should broaden our horizons by applying AI not only in information technology (IT) but also in areas such as electricity, energy and biotechnology." His remarks align with SK Group's long-term strategy to accelerate its "fourth quantum leap" by integrating AI into all aspects of business operations, spanning AI data centers, AI agents, robotics, manufacturing, energy and bio, reports Yonhap news agency. The group previously announced plans to invest 82 trillion won (US$59.7 billion) in AI and semiconductor sectors by 2030. As a first step, SK Group last week unveiled a partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to build a hyperscale AI data center in Ulsan, about 305 kilometers southeast of Seoul. The facility is scheduled to begin operations by 2027 and is expected to create up to 78,000 direct and indirect jobs over time as it scales. The project reflects SK Group and AWS' joint commitment to advancing cloud infrastructure to support AI innovation, the company said. The project brought together key SK Group affiliates, including SK Telecom Co., SK hynix Inc. and SK Gas, combining the group's strengths in ICT, energy and semiconductors. The new data center is expected to enhance the group's capabilities to meet growing demand for generative AI through compute, storage, database and edge computing solutions. "Hyperscale AI data centers are core national assets that can strengthen our geopolitical position amid intensifying global tech competition and trade pressure," the group said. "Given that AI data centers typically operate for decades, this large-scale investment by a global tech giant underscores confidence in Korea's political and economic stability and long-term growth potential."

Jaguar Land Rover to face $2.1billion tariff hit: N Chandrasekaran

Tata Motors-owned British luxury carmaker Jaguar Land Rover faces potential tariff impacts of 1.6 billion pounds (about $2.1 billion) from new US trade measures , Tata Group chairman N Chandrasekaran said. He noted that ongoing mitigation plans aim to reduce this impact to 600 million pounds. "Tariff is a major issue, primarily for JLR," said Chandrasekaran at Tata Motors ' 80th AGM on Friday. "Without intervention, JLR's tariff rate would have gone from 2.5% to 27.5%. With the US-UK trade deal, the 27.5% tariff will drop to 10%. The overall impact even of the 10% will be 1.6 billion pounds. But JLR has taken a lot of steps through which it will be able to reduce the impact to 600 million pounds." This AGM marked Chandrasekaran's first appearance at a shareholder meeting after the Air India flight 171 crash on June 12, having missed shareholder meetings at Tata Consumer Products and TCS. The meeting held additional significance as it was the final AGM for Tata Motors before its division into two listed companies by year-end, focusing on passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles, respectively. Chandrasekaran also assured shareholders that China's export restrictions on rare earth magnets pose no immediate supply concerns, while the company explores alternative sourcing options. Rare earth elements play a crucial role in the production of permanent magnets, which are essential components in electric motors.

Israel-Iran LIVE: Nato official says watching situation closely after US strikes on Iran

The recent joint military action against Iran by the United States and Israel may have been planned well in advance, with signs of close coordination between US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, according to Jonathan Schanzer, a terror finance analyst and former US Treasury official. Schanzer said US-Israel strikes on Iran appeared to have been closely coordinated from early in Trump's second term, marking a potential turning point for West Asia. "Two men (Trump and Netanyahu) have been coordinating closely. The Israelis launched their attack (on Iran) last Thursday night -- they did so on Day 61 after Trump's 60-day deadline... I get a sense that this was coordinated from very early on in the second Trump administration... This is the beginning of a different Middle East because this regime in Iran has cast a dark shadow over the entire Middle East. Since 1979, it has been the single solitary source of so much destruction and just horrific acts that have taken place across the region," Schanzer said.
