EXCLUSIVE QB guru who has trained Patrick Mahomes names the shock hidden gem of the 2025 NFL draft
Quarterback coach Quincy Avery, who has trained some of the greatest players in the NFL, believes Max Brosmer could be the 'sleeper' in this year's NFL draft.
The class of 2025 will learn their fate on Thursday, with the Tennessee Titans holding the first overall pick ahead of the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants.
Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders are the most intriguing prospects at quarterback. Miami product Ward is tipped to be taken first overall by Tennessee but there is intensifying scrutiny on Sanders, with some questioning if he will go in the first round at all while others think he will be picked early on.
But Avery, who has worked with the likes of Jalen Hurts, Patrick Mahomes and CJ Stroud, believes teams should not ignore ex-Minnesota quarterback Brosmer.
According to the NFL's own projections, Brosmer is considered only 'an average backup'. He is not among ESPN's top 11-ranked quarterbacks in the class, either.
But Avery believes the 24-year-old, who played at New Hampshire between 2019 and 2023 before joining the Golden Gophers, has everything to 'be really successful in the NFL for a really long time'.
'That's a sleeper I think that a lot of people aren't thinking about,' said Avery, who has watched Brosman train alongside NFL stars and hold his own.
'He's someone I think is going to be really, really successful for a long time, and I think that someone people need to get him on their radar if he's not already.'
Avery cited Brosman's ability to read defenses, adapt on the fly and change play calls.
'I've had an opportunity to see Max Brosman a ton and seeing where he's at mentally - in terms of the things that he was tasked with doing... not only is he executing at a high level, he is mentally at a high level over and over again.'
Avery added: 'There's always somebody who sneaks in later in the draft, who is able to be a really successful quarterback and play for a lot of years.'
Avery has previously been critical of Sanders, claiming the ex-Colorado star would be a 'sixth-round' pick if he wasn't the son of NFL legend Deion Sanders.
The QB guru also suggested that Shedeur comes with baggage because coaches will 'have to worry about' Deion 'trying to take (their) job'.
But Avery believes he may have been too harsh on Shedeur, who he considers 'the toughest quarterback in college football'.

'You see him get hit over and over and over again, and you always see him to get back up. And that is a testament to who he is as a person,' Avery told Mail Sport.
'You know that he's not going to crater in the biggest moments. He's going to be tough enough to stand in the pocket... (and) there are some things that he does really well.'
Avery nevertheless believes Ward may be the only quarterback in the 2025 class with the capacity to immediately 'change a team'.
'All the other guys are going to have to really, really work hard and and be diligent in the little things, in order be successful,' he said.

The striker got married last week but has swapped the chance of sunny climes for Cumbernauld this June Newly wed Hamilton Accies star Oli Shaw has turned down the chance of a honeymoon this summer to make sure he hits the ground running this season, boss John Rankin has revealed. The former Hibs and Kilmarnock striker tied the knot with wife Michaela at the luxury Achnagairn Castle estate in Inverness last Saturday, with Shaw posting images from the big day on his Instagram page. But Shaw has swapped the chance of sunning himself in some exotic destination for Cumbernauld, as the Accies players work up a sweat in pre-season training at their new Broadwood home. The club have upped sticks from New Douglas Park after a fallout with the stadium owners and had a two-year lease at Broadwood approved by the SPFL on Thursday. Shaw, who netted 16 goals in 44 appearances last season, reported for training this week and Rankin heaped praise on Mr and Mrs Shaw for their dedication to Hamilton Accies' bid to make an immediate return to League One. Rankin explained: "To keep Oli at the club for this season is huge. "He got married on Saturday there and I offered him an extended holiday to go and spend some time with his new wife, but he knocked it back. "He said he will go on his honeymoon next year because he wanted to come back in and train. "That sort of commitment from day one is important and it shows the type of character that Oli is. "Oli missed the first few weeks of pre-season last season and I think he's felt he's always played catch up because of that. "But this season he is determined to start the season quickly. That speaks volumes for him, but also the commitment his wife has shown to him. "Most people only get married once so for her to give up her honeymoon this year for Oli to come back and train is huge for us. "Hopefully it helps him start the season well and he hits the ground running. "Oli is happy at the football club and he stressed that to me in the summer. Oli is loving his time here, he loves scoring goals and he loves the players and environment he is working in." With Accies homeless over the summer as they awaited official confirmation from the SPFL to sanction their controversial move to Broadwood, Rankin revealed he had to meet his players in hotels up and down the country to thrash out deals to keep them at the club. A handful have moved on, with the likes of SPFL Trust Trophy hero Reghan Tumilty joining St Johnstone, while skipper Sean McGinty activated a relegation release clause to join Lanarkshire rivals Airdrie. Rankin added: "There were a lot of players who were out of contract and decided to move on, and we wish them all the best. "Some who were in contract and had relegation clauses decided to take them, others didn't. "I met all the players individually when the season finished. Obviously, we didn't have a stadium so we were meeting in various hotels up and down the country. "I had some tough conversations with some players that wanted to stay but didn't want to play in League One, which I totally understand. We are talking good servants to the club. "But there are people who are really committed. Oli is one of them. His goal return last season was a big thing for us."

Martin was holidaying in Palma before jetting into Glasgow to become Ibrox boss Charlie Mulgrew was in a world of his own on holiday in Palma - until a familiar face strolled past. Sipping his coffee in a packed local cafe, the ex- Celtic star glanced up and did a double-take. In walked Russell Martin - just hours before jetting into Glasgow to take on one of the biggest jobs in football. Having shared a dressing room with him for Scotland, Mulgrew knows Martin well and holds real admiration for what he's achieved in the dugout. The retired defender even came close to working under him after being given the VIP treatment during transfer talks at MK Dons. Mulgrew was blown away by the level of detail and analysis presented by Martin in his signing pitch. And while he might not be the Hollywood name that some Gers fans craved, Mulgrew reckons it won't take long for the ex-Southampton and Swansea City gaffer to win over his doubters. Speaking at the William Hill SPFL Fixture Launch day, he said: "Listen, I'm not surprised [by the mixed reaction] because I know the mentality up here, Celtic and Rangers. "There's a high standard and expectation in the names that were mentioned for the Rangers job. "Mourinho was mentioned at one stage and Carlo Ancelotti's boy, who has coached at Real Madrid and has quite a high stock as well. "I think when you've not looked too much into Russell Martin, then on the surface, it can maybe disappoint people. "I actually met him in Palma the day before he took the job, randomly sitting in a coffee shop. "Palma was absolutely mobbed. I'm sitting in a coffee shop and he came walking in. He was flying back to take the job. "So having met the guy and spent time with him, he leaves no stone unturned. He's absolutely brilliant at his job. "That's the reason, apart from knowing him, I wanted to go and see him. I know he sticks to his style and how he sees the game. I've always been impressed by that. "He tried to sign me when he was at MK Dons as well, so I got an insight into how he wants to play. He was thorough. "What he sent me as a player that he was looking to sign, within days, was a profile on how he sees me playing. He sent me a big PowerPoint presentation of what he saw and what I could bring to his MK Dons team. "It was so impressive, I've never been sent that before. Knowing him, I think he's a great appointment for Rangers." With the success-starved Light Blues now under American ownership, Martin has been tasked with ending more than a decade of dominance by Celtic. Mulgrew - who won five titles at Parkhead - believes his old club are crying out for genuine competition. And he thinks Brendan Rodgers - still reeling from May's Scottish Cup Final defeat - will be keeping an eye on Ibrox activity this summer. Mulgrew said: "It's going to be interesting to see how Rangers go this year. Celtic need that challenge. They're going to be wary of that. "When Celtic have been dominating for as long as they have and a new manager comes in, they'll obviously have a bit of a wariness about what Rangers are going to bring. "I think Brendan Rodgers has been brilliant at keeping that edge there. Apart from the cup final, where I think everybody was shocked at that. "The shock in Hampden was real to the fact that Celtic hadn't been beaten in finals. I think it was Rodgers' first final he'd been beaten in. So every team needs that wee edge. "When I used to be there, you'd always look at Rangers' results. Have they dropped points? Do we need to get three points to go ahead of them or to catch them up? "I don't think it's been like that recently. Rodgers has been brilliant at keeping them on their toes. "But to have Rangers pushing as well, I'm sure, would keep Celtic right on it." Celtic's Treble-busting Hampden loss to Aberdeen took the shine off what had been another memorable campaign both domestically and in Europe. Mulgrew insists the pain of that defeat will only fuel Rodgers heading into the new season. He added: "I think there'll be something definitely inside him. Being the winner he is, it'll be hurting the fact that he never won the Treble. "It takes a wee bit of shine off the season, even though it's mad how Trebles have become so frequent and such a regular thing for Celtic. "The standards are set so high, but he'll have that wee bit in him that'll give him that desire to push on and try and get it next year. But it is a hard thing to do. "It just shows you how hard it is to get a Treble. Every single game you play. It's a team's final, especially when you've got Europe running alongside it. "It was such a good run in the Champions League. It seems so long ago that people forget about it. "But he'll definitely be eager to go and domestically dominate again this year."
