Nearing one-year anniversary of arrest, Scottie Scheffler makes peculiar color choice
We're coming up on the one-year anniversary of Scottie Scheffler's outrageous arrest at the 2024 PGA Championship and it almost seems like the milestone has been on the mind of the world's No. 1 golfer this week.
Either that or Scheffler stumbled into the coincidence of all hilarious coincidences Wednesday at Quail Hollow.
Because according to Golf.com's Claire Rogers, when Scheffler arrived for his practice round wearing burnt orange, it was only the second time in the last calendar year he's been spotted sporting the color. The first time was his jailhouse jumpsuit in Louisville.

Now, it's true Scheffler is a Texas native who played collegiately for the Longhorns, so it's not like burnt orange is a foreign color for him. But the timing is just too much to ignore.
Here's hoping he doesn't have to do his warm-up stretches in lockup before any of his rounds this weekend.

FRISCO, Texas — Jenno Thitikul walked off the fifth green after a double bogey in the first round of the KPMG Women's PGA Championship reminding herself to stay patient and that some missed shots are going to happen. 'Majors, you're going to miss anyway,' said Thitikul, who's No. 2 in the women's world ranking. 'A way to bounce back, it's more important.' Haeran Ryu, Rio Takeda and Somi Lee all shot 70. That only hole over par for Thitikul was followed by a par before she made five birdies in a six-hole stretch, with a 60-footer on the par-3 eighth hole in the middle of three in a row. 'My putter went really well,' said the 22-year-old from Thailand, who is seeking her first major title. 'In the front nine we had a lot of breeze going, and more than the back nine, but like (made) putts 7, 8, 9, which boosts the confidence up making the turn to the back nine.' Thitikul, who lives in the Dallas area, needed only 25 putts on the Fields Ranch East course at PGA Frisco. Her makes measured 199 1/2 feet. While Korda said she doesn't feel pain hitting shots, the two-time major champion said she has pain 'just with rotation' of her neck and that it is hard to get comfortable to sleep at night. 'It's better, yeah. Getting better every day, which is nice,' she said. 'Just because I injured it last year, whenever I do injure my neck it takes a little bit longer than normal. ... Just takes me like a week to kind of recover when I tweak my neck now.' It is the seventh and final Signature Event of the 2025 PGA Tour season. Like most Signature Events, this means it is a limited-field, no-cut event. Without a cut, players tend to feel a bit freer while out on the course, and that includes Justin Thomas. Advertisement Thomas has had an up-and-down season thus far. So, this environment at a course he enjoys is just what the doctor ordered. Following an opening round 3-under 67, he fired off a blazing 6-under 64 on Friday. That moved him into a tie with World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler atop the leaderboard. Even more impressive were the conditions with which he played. Wind wreaked havoc on the field, with several top-ranked golfers struggling mightily. Wind gusts were clocked at over 30 miles per hour, with steady winds throughout the day. After his round, he was asked if there was an art to playing in the wind. 'Definitely,' Thomas said. Advertisement 'I just think it's control. I think it's why Scottie is so good in the wind. He hits the middle of the club face about every time. That's a huge part of it, distance control. 'The difference of riding the wind and holding the wind can be a 15- or 20-yard difference in the air in these kinds of conditions… If you're trying to hold one and you ride the wind, that's not good for a lot of reasons. I think it's way more art [compared to a science] because you just have to create and kind of feel out there.' 72 players entered the tournament to begin the week. Si Woo Kim and Jordan Spieth have already withdrawn due to injury. Of the 70 players tackling the TPC River Highlands course on Friday, only a handful played under par. The vast majority had a difficult time in the wind. PGA Tour winners like Sepp Straka, Rickie Fowler, Shane Lowry, and Tony Finau all shot around 10 strokes worse than Thomas on Friday. Even the aforementioned Scheffler had a tough time. He finished 1-under for the day, tied with Justin Thomas at 9-under, atop the leaderboard entering the weekend. 'I see windy conditions, I just get excited because I know it's just extremely difficult, and a couple under goes a really, really, really long way.
