Alejandro G Inarritu teases 'brutal comedy' with Tom Cruise
Tom Cruise's next movie is a "brutal comedy".
The 62-year-old actor is currently promoting 'Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning' but he's also been busy working on director Alejandro G. Iñárritu's upcoming film, which is tentatively titled 'July' and has just wrapped shooting in London.
The Oscar-winning director teased the film is "insane" and promised audiences will be surprised.
He told The Hollywood Reporter: 'All I can say is it is a brutal, wild comedy of catastrophic proportions. It's insane.
"It's scary and funny and beautiful. I know comedy is not what people expect from me, or Tom, and making this film was terrifying for me, but I don't like to repeat myself, and every film should scare you a little."
The 61-year-old filmmaker praised Tom for his "total commitment" to the role and compared the tone to that of his 2014 movie 'Birdman'.
He added: "I felt Birdman was a comedy, a dark comedy, and this one was challenging like that.
"And Tom makes me laugh every single day. He has this total commitment, this total madness.'
'July' will also star Sandra Huller and the Mexican filmmaker has admired the 'Anatomy of a Fall' actress' work for some time.
He said: "'I've loved Sandra since 'Toni Erdmann'. I met her here in Cannes that year [2017] and have been wanting to work with her ever since."
Alejandro plans to begin editing the film - which will also feature the likes of Jesse Plemons, Riz Ahmed, Emma D'Arcy, Sophie Wilde, Michael Stuhlbarg and John Goodman - "next week" and 'July' is scheduled for release next autumn.
Meanwhile, the filmmaker's breakthrough work, 'Amores Perros' - which starred Gael Garcia Bernal - is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and it still means a lot to Alejandro.
He said: 'Back then, in Mexico, we made maybe seven movies a year.
'There was no real national cinema. If you made one film, that was it. That was your shot. And I poured everything into that film.
"All the contradictions, the rage, the love, the chaos of Mexico City — it's all in there. That's why it's messy. That's why it's alive.'
As well a marking the anniversary with a visual installation set to exhibit in Milan, Mexico City and Los Angeles later this year, 'Amores Perros' will also be rereleased into cinemas.
The director said: 'So that young people can see it on the big screen, not just on one of these [phones]."

In the upcoming movie, the son of Greg (Stiller) and Pam Focker gets engaged to a 'ball-busting woman who seems all wrong for him', played by Grande. The film is set for release on November 25, 2026.

Kacey Musgraves is 'in a lot of pain' after breaking a rib
Kacey Musgraves has broken a rib after suffering a fall in Mexico. The 36-year-old singer has revealed via social media that she's "in a lot of pain" after she recently suffered a fall. Alongside an image of her X-ray, Kasey wrote on Instagram: "Sooo I'm in Mexico with a f****** broken rib. "Wednesday night it was raining and I was running to grab some towels and had an extremely hard fall on some very slick tile I didn't see. Thankful I didn't smack my head but I landed very very hard on my back left ribcage, and I broke rib number 6. "This s*** is no joke. I'm in a lot of pain and doing ANYTHING is extremely difficult but I'm managing and being well taken care of. (sic)" Kacey is currently unable to perform live because of her injury. The singer has also been forced to reschedule the live recording of a podcast. She continued: "There is no physical way I can get on a plane and fly back to Nashville for the @singforscience event with @paulstaments on Sunday at @theryman. I am extremely bummed to have to reschedule as I have been looking forward to this for months but there is literally no other option. I'm so sorry for the inconvenience. (sic)" Kacey released her debut album, Same Trailer Different Park, in 2013, and she's subsequently become one of the biggest names in country music. The singer - who was born and raised in Texas - recently revealed that she loves taking her music overseas and engaging with her international fans. The Merry Go 'Round hitmaker told The Hollywood Reporter: "I'm going to South America, then Asia and Australia. "I'm playing Brazil for the first time. I know the energy and the fans there are unlike anywhere else. I'm playing this massive rodeo [Sao Paulo's Jaguariuna], which is really cool. Rodeo is huge in Brazil. "It's been really cool to see the rest of the world come to love country music, because, really, country is more about a mentality and an attitude versus geography. Geena Davis hails Mission: Impossible's 'great diversity'
Geena Davis loved the "great diversity" of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. The 69-year-old star has admitted to being impressed by the casting choices for the action movie, which saw Tom Cruise appear alongside the likes of Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, Mariela Garriga and Ving Rhames. Geena told Deadline: "Did you see the new Mission: Impossible yet? I noticed the great diversity in there, women left and right, all over the place, and people of colour and it's just normal and natural. But they clearly, in my estimation, put a lot of thought into that." Genna has been trying to make the movie industry more inclusive through her Geena Davis Institute on Gender and Media, which she founded two decades ago. The award-winning actress also oversees the Bentonville Film Festival, and Genna has explained how she approaches the issue of inclusivity. She shared: "In my institute we focus on what's on screen. And in the festival, we take into account both on screen and behind the camera. So, our directors and writers and producers are very diverse as well as [the cast] on screen." Genna thinks it's important that the film industry reflects the wider population. The Accidental Tourist star said: "It just makes sense to reflect the people that are watching the movie. "Ultimately, what I think we're trying to prove is that films with unique voices that represent the population are very commercial. Research shows that the more diversity there is on screen, the more money the movie makes. But people haven't really taken that to heart as much as they could." Walmart - the supermarket chain founded in Bentonville - actually created the Bentonville Film Festival with inclusion as its focus. And Genna has relished the opportunity to lead the festival. The Hollywood star explained: "Each department of Walmart has to come up with their sort of public outreach, public service initiative that they do. "The home video department thought, 'Hey, what if we were to have a film festival for representation, that is about representation?' And they thought that was a good idea. And then I was thought of as someone who might be — they needed to get a Robert Redford or Robert De Niro, or somebody named Robert to be the person fronting it. And they thought of me, and I came here and talked to everybody, and I really wanted to do it." The Oscar-winning actress feels proud of what she's managed to achieve with the festival in a relatively short space of time. She said: "We decided to put it on very quickly, so we only had about five months to put it all together for the first iteration. But we pulled it off and it gets bigger and better every year."
