Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has confirmed that the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is all set for a major digital overhaul. The changes were expected to rollout between end of May or June. Since there was no activity on EPFO Version 3.0 last month, it is mostly expected that the new rules might kick in from June 2025. Beneficiaries will be able to update their EPFO accounts and mandates using OTP verification and conveniently monitor their pension entitlements or withdraw funds. 3. Integration Of Social Security Schemes

Mandaviya said the government is also considering the integration of various social security schemes, including the Atal Pension Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Bima Yojana, and Shramik Jan Dhan Yojana, to streamline and strengthen pension coverage. Members To Soon Withdraw PF Through UPI And ATM

The EPFO plans to launch a ground-breaking new PF withdrawal method via the Unified Payments Interface (UPI). Labour and Employment Secretary Sumita Dawra had previously told news agency ANI, the ministry has approved NPCI's recommendation, and members may withdraw PF through UPI and ATM by the end of May or June this year. This may also be a good pilot for members of other schemes like the General Provident Fund (GPF) of Govt Employees of the Public Provident Fund (PPF) of Banks.

Jobs data: EPFO adds 19.14 lakh net members in April; female participation, youth hiring see sharp jump
India's formal job market witnessed robust expansion in April 2025 with the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation ( EPFO ) adding 19.14 lakh net members, according to payroll data released by the Labour Ministry on Sunday. This marks a 31.31% jump over March 2025 and a 1.17% increase compared to April 2024. The EPFO enrolled around 8.49 lakh new subscribers in April, up 12.49% from the previous month. The ministry attributed the increase to rising employment opportunities, greater awareness of employee benefits, and the success of EPFO's outreach programmes. Youth dominate new enrolments The 18–25 age group continued to dominate new subscriber additions. Of the total new subscribers, 4.89 lakh (57.67%) were in this age group, reflecting a 10.05% rise over March 2025. In net terms, the age group saw 7.58 lakh additions, marking a 13.60% jump month-on-month. "This trend aligns with earlier data suggesting that most individuals joining the organised workforce are youth and first-time job seekers," the ministry said. More women enter the workforce April also saw a sharp increase in female participation. Around 2.45 lakh new female subscribers joined the EPFO — a 17.63% increase over March. Net female payroll additions stood at 3.95 lakh, with a 35.24% rise month-on-month. The ministry said this reflects a broader shift towards a more inclusive and diverse workforce. Around 15.77 lakh members who had previously exited EPFO rejoined in April — a 19.19% increase over March. These members switched jobs but chose to transfer their EPF accounts rather than withdraw savings, ensuring continued social security coverage. Maharashtra leads among states A state-wise analysis showed that the top five states/UTs contributed 60.10% of the total net payroll additions, amounting to around 11.50 lakh net additions. Maharashtra led the tally, contributing 21.12% of the total. Other major contributors included Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Telangana, each accounting for over 5% of net additions during the month. KSRTC's Davanagere division records uptick in digital payments
Davanagere: The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation ( KSRTC ) achieved notable success in digital payments, collecting Rs 10 crore in eight months through its Davanagere division. This achievement follows KSRTC's intensified promotion of UPI payments since Nov 2024. The organisation aims to collect Rs 1 crore daily through digital means, targeting 50% of all transactions. Passengers embraced the QR code payment system for bus fares, despite initial technical difficulties. The digital payment implementation resolved issues related to small change, enhancing the travel experience and reducing conflicts between passengers and conductors. The Davanagere division also introduced UPI payments via smart electronic ticket machines (ETMs) in Nov. Travellers now complete transactions using applications like PhonePe and Google Pay. Digital payments are more prevalent on long-distance routes with reliable network coverage. Inter-district and interstate services show higher digital transaction rates when compared to urban and rural routes. City passengers display less inclination towards UPI payments for smaller fares. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Sanitize & Smooth Clothes Fast with Philips Steamer Philips Garment Steamers Shop Now Undo Premium service users typically book tickets online in advance. From Nov 2024 to June 15, 2025, the division collected Rs 11 crore via UPI across its three depots: Davanagere Depot-1, Davanagere Depot-2, and Harihar Depot. Monthly collections increased steadily: November (Rs 29.2 lakh), December 2024 (Rs 1 crore), January 2025 (Rs 1.3 crore), February (Rs 1.5 crore), March (Rs 1.6 crore), April (Rs 1.8 crore), May (Rs 1.9 crore), and June (Rs 1.9 crore). The division manages 404 buses with 490 ETMs, including backup units. Occasional technical issues led to payment deductions without ticket issuance, causing disputes. The refund system improved, with reimbursements now processed within 48 hours, reduced from one week previously. Passengers are showing a preference for digital payments, and if a ticket is not printed, the amount is credited to their account within 24 hours. We solved some technical issues, and we are expecting more digital payments in our division, said Kiran Kumar Basapur, KSRTC divisional controller, Davanagere.

India Post helps transform geolocation with DIGIPIN
More than 50 years after six-digit Postal Index Number revolutionised mail delivery in India, the Department of Post has rolled out a 10-digit alpha numeric Digital Postal Index Number (DIGIPIN). 'The DIGIPIN is like online maps but only more accurate. Its geolocation is accurate up to 4 metres as it generates latitude and longitude. While the PIN code covered a large area (average area of around 170 sq. km per Pincode), the DIGIPIN narrows it down to a narrow grid,' Chief Post Master of General Post Office, Hyderabad Circle, Y. Prasad explained. The 10- digit alpha-numeric code represents geographic coordinates, developed by creating a uniform 4x4 metre grid of the country. The DIGIPIN is a collaborative effort of India Post, Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad, National Remote Sensing Centre and Indian Space Research Organisation. 'The PIN code was used for sorting mail. But its usage was limited as many people did not care to write it down and much of the addressing and delivery was down to local knowledge and information. The DIGIPIN is a machine-readable code that can help mail delivery even when drones will be deployed for the purpose,' said Mr. Prasad. With enhanced location accuracy, DIGIPIN is expected to be very useful during emergencies as it can generate precise geographic coordinates ensuring faster response times. However, as the DIGIPIN is a latitude and longitude based grid its use for multi-storeyed building complexes in urban areas is likely to be a challenge. The DIGIPIN is part of the IT 2.0 rollout of the India Post where it will be integrated with mobile devices provided to the staff for carrying out online postal, financial and insurance transactions. In the pipeline is a digital address layer, similar to the UPI ID, which has helped eliminate the recall and use of banking information. The digital address is expected to allow users to generate unique and customised labels (such as username@domain) to represent their DIGIPIN and descriptive addresses and manage this information. Interestingly, the 4 X 4 grid of India encompasses areas in neighbouring countries of Pakistan, Myanmar and Bangladesh and generates the DIGIPIN for areas in those countries as well.
