Man charged with gun, drugs possession in Drogheda
A 28-year-old man has been remanded in custody charged with possessing a loaded semi-automatic pistol, ammunition, drugs and money laundering in Drogheda, Co Louth.
Seán McGlone of Beechwood Drive, Drogheda was brought before Dundalk District Court this morning.
He is charged with possessing a 9mm calibre semi-automatic pistol with a magazine of six live rounds as well as five further rounds of ammunition at his home address on Monday.
He is also charged with having €4,200 worth of cocaine and €480 worth of cannabis for sale or supply.
He is further charged with money laundering in excess of €200,000 via his Revolut account.
Detective Garda Dean Hyland of Drogheda Garda Station gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution.
The court heard the accused made no reply when any of the charges were put to him.
Detective Garda Hyland told the court that Mr McGlone was arrested under Section 72 of the Criminal Justice Act in relation to allegedly enhancing a criminal organisation.
The court was told members of the Divisional Drugs Unit in Drogheda executed a search warrant at a cabin located behind the accused's family home, where he was the sole occupant.
Det Gda Hyland said that the drugs and other drug-related paraphernalia were found in the cabin while two mobile phones and €3,000 in cash were also discovered.
The court was told that the loaded semi-automatic pistol, along with five further rounds of ammunition, were also found.
Det Gda Hyland said that he was objecting to bail on a number of grounds, including the seriousness of the alleged offences and that further more serious charges are likely to be brought against Mr McGlone in the future.
Defence solicitor Seán Allen said his client was entitled to the presumption of innocence and would comply with any bail conditions imposed by the court.
However, Judge Gerard Jones said the accused was present when the firearm and drugs were discovered, and he was refusing bail.
Mr McGlone was remanded in custody to appear before Drogheda District Court on Monday via video-link.
There was no application made for legal aid.
