ED conducts searches in Chennai; nabs key accused in Rs 68 crore Rs 68 crore red sanders smuggling case

New Delhi [India], May 27 (ANI): The Directorate of Enforcement (ED), Nagpur Sub-Zonal Office, has conducted search operations at two premises in Chennai linked to Abdul Jaffer, who is allegedly involved in large-scale smuggling of Red Sanders to Dubai, the agency said on Monday.
According to an ED statement, the accused exploited his syndicate's clout to replace declared export goods with Red Sanders during transit.

'ED, Nagpur has carried out search operations at 02 premises in Chennai on May 22, 2025, linked to Abdul Jaffer who is involved in large-scale smuggling of Red Sanders to Dubai. During the search operations, various incriminating documents were seized. During the search operation, Abdul Jaffer has been nabbed who was on run since last 4 years. He has been brought to Nagpur under Transit Remand issued by Ld. Jurisdiction Court at Chennai. After that, he has been produced before Special Court (PMLA), Nagpur on May 24, 2025. The Hon'ble Court is pleased to grant ED custody till May 28, 2025,' the ED said in a post on X.
Search operations unraveled several properties in the form of land, building, flat and high-end vehicles acquired by the accused out of Proceeds of Crime which runs into crores of rupees including other incriminating materials.
ED initiated investigation on the basis of a Prosecution Complaint filed by DRI, Nagpur under Section 135 of the Customs Act, 1962 against said Abdul Jaffer and others. ED investigation revealed that he had smuggled out a total of 13 consignments of Red Sanders to Dubai by way of replacing the declared goods i.e. Sponge Iron which was being exported by a Raipur based entity.
The value of total smuggled Red Sanders has been calculated to be Rs. 68.00 Crore (Approx.), which excludes one consignment so intercepted and seized by DRI when it was being attempted to be smuggled. Apart from the above, investigation also disclosed that his name was figured out in several other smuggling cases of Red Sanders which were investigated by other unit of DRI, which attributes that he is a habitual offender in smuggling of Red Sanders.

SSP Firozabad Saurabh Dixit told TOI that police received an alert from an informer that Khan, wanted in murder and robbery cases, was in the area. "Police surrounded the criminal near Nova Factory and asked him to surrender, but he started firing indiscriminately at the cops. In the retaliatory fire, Khan got injured and died during treatment. We have alerted the NHRC about the incident and requested DM Firozabad to launch a probe into it," SSP Dixit said. Sharing details about Khan's criminal record, Dixit further added that he was wanted in as many as five cases of murder, loot, and attempt to murder. "On the intervening night of March 4 and 5, Khan looted and killed Munna Lal Yadav and his wife Mithlesh Yadav (both senior citizens) in Bansi Nagar of Shikohabad. Khan used to target elderly people, and he was currently living in Agra. He would travel from Agra to commit the crimes, police said, adding that he was identified after monitoring footage from 200 CCTV cameras. DIG Agra had announced a reward of Rs 50,000, and the SSP had announced a reward of Rs 25,000 for Raju Khan's arrest. After the incident, an illegal .32-bore firearm, eight live bullets, and 12 bullet shells were recovered from his possession, police said. As per Uttar Pradesh Police data, in the last eight years, the state reported 14,741 encounters, leading to the arrest of 30,293 criminals, while 234 criminals were gunned down.

HYDERABAD: The special operations team (SOT) of LB Nagar, in coordination with Hayathnagar police, busted an interstate ganja smuggling racket and arrested four peddlers, including a railway employee from Maharashtra. The arrested were identified as Vikas Baban Salve (30), Ranganath Yurajn Sadve (36), Sagar Gajanan Khandebharad (29) - a central railway employee - and Amol Narayan Borde (26). Officials seized 166 kg of the contraband worth Rs 50 lakh, four mobile phones and Rs 6,200 cash from their possession. Based on a tip-off, officials set up a checkpoint near Dhananjaya function hall in Hayathnagar and intercepted a car. During the search of the vehicle, the officials found 20 sacks of dry ganja weighing 166 kg. Investigators said they procured ganja from one Maik alias Rahul alias Dass and planned to transport it to Maharashtra via Hyderabad. Salve and Sadve have NDPS cases registered against them in Alair and Bhadrachalam police stations. Non-bailable warrants are pending against them.

Representative Image HYDERABAD: The excise sleuths arrested drug peddlers and seized 22 grams of MDMA and 6 grams of premium cannabis variant 'OG Kush', all worth Rs 1.75 lakh from them at Neredmet. The arrested were identified as Neeraj Kumar, Vinod Kumar and Balaji. Based on a tip-off, the officials intercepted a delivery rider who brought the contraband from Bengaluru and caught two local distributors who were waiting to receive the parcel from him.
