Frangieh Challenges Moawad and a Conspiracy Against Lebanon

MTV Lebanon13-03-2025

MP Tony Frangieh considered that "Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, once he secured confidence, "no longer cared about anyone" and cannot deal with the Lebanese as if he were Rafic Hariri."
In an interview with MTV, Frangieh said: "If Salam is with the revolution, that doesn't mean imposing his conditions on everyone, and Sleiman Frangieh did not accept all the temptations for not supporting Joseph Aoun for the presidency."
He confirmed that "the relationship with President Joseph Aoun is good and ongoing, and the doors of the Arab countries were closed to us after Michel Aoun's election; I am surprised at how the Lebanese authorities allowed our Arab relations to deteriorate."
Frangieh also noted that "the appointments that took place today are not encouraging, were not made in a clear manner, and several ministries were offered to us, including the Ministry of Information, but we did not express interest in any of them."
Regarding the municipal elections, he stated: "I am ready to reach an agreement in the municipal elections with Michel Moawad or "sit aside" and leave the choice to the people, otherwise, we will challenge him if he challenges us."
On another note, he considered that "the Syrian regime has made many mistakes, and I call on the new Syrian authorities to strike with an iron fist and protect everyone."
He also pointed out that "there are many gaps in the electoral law, and we have reached a catastrophic outcome, as the principle of justice is not present in it, and we must move away from the logic of exclusion."
On the economic front, Frangieh said: "What led us to this economic stage was a conspiracy against the country, and the Marada ministers objected in the Cabinet to defaulting on the Eurobond payments."

Hezbollah condemns US strikes on Iran

by Naharnet Newsdesk 23 June 2025, 12:12 Hezbollah has condemned the U.S. strikes on Iran in a statement but did not threaten to join in Tehran's retaliation. 'The blatant deceit and deception practiced by U.S. President Donald Trump, driven by illusions of control and arrogance ... confirms that the United States of America, along with the tyrants of arrogance, is a threat to the security and stability of the Islamic Republic,' the statement said. "This proves to the entire world that America is the official sponsor of terrorism and does not recognize international conventions, humanitarian laws, pledges, or obligations,' it added. It also called for 'Arab and Islamic countries and the free peoples of the world' to stand with Iran.

20 dead, 52 hurt in Damascus church suicide bombing

by Naharnet Newsdesk 22 June 2025, 21:58 The United Nations special envoy for Syria denounced Sunday's attack on a church in Damascus that killed at least 20 people as a "heinous crime". Syria's interior ministry said a member of the Islamic State jihadist group was behind the attack, in which dozens of people were wounded. U.N. envoy Geir Pedersen "condemns in the strongest possible terms the terrorist attack at St. Elias Church... which killed and injured civilians who were attending mass", said a statement from his office. "He expresses his outrage at this heinous crime." Pedersen noted that the Syrian interim authorities had attributed the attack to IS, and "calls for a full investigation and action by the authorities," the statement added. Pedersen "calls on all to unite in rejecting terrorism, extremism, incitement and the targeting of any community in Syria". The Norwegian diplomat sent his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and hoped for the recovery of those injured, the statement said. Pedersen, 69, has been the special envoy for Syria since 2018.

President Aoun calls for restraint, constructive and serious negotiations to restore stability to region's countries

President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, considered that the recent escalation of Israeli-Iranian confrontations and the accelerating developments accompanying them, especially the bombing of Iranian nuclear facilities at dawn today, are likely to raise the level of fear of expanding the scope of tension in a way that threatens security and stability in more than one region and country. He added that this calls for "self-restraint" and the launch of "constructive and serious negotiations" to restore stability to the countries of the region and avoid further killing and destruction, especially since this escalation could continue for a long period. President Aoun called on leaders of capable countries to intervene to put an end to what is happening before it is too late, pointing out that Lebanon, its leadership, parties and people, are aware today, more than ever before, that the country has paid a heavy price for the wars that broke out on its land and in the region, and is unwilling to pay more, for there is no national interest in doing so, particualrly since the cost of these wars is beyond what it can bear. Since dawn today, President Aoun has been closely monitoring the military developments resulting from the bombing of Iranian nuclear facilities. He has remained in contact with Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, National Defense Minister Major General Michel Menassa, Army Commander General Rodolphe Haykal, and security chiefs, stressing the need for taking necessary measures to maintain stability in the country.
