16 Naxals surrender in Chhattisgarh citing 'inhumane' Maoist ideology

All 16 cadres, including a woman, turned themselves in before senior police and CRPF officials, here citing disappointment with the "hollow" and "inhuman" Maoist ideology and atrocities by ultras on local tribals, Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan said.The cadres were also impressed by the Chhattisgarh government's 'Niyad Nellanar' (your good village) scheme, aimed at facilitating development works in remote villages, and the state's new surrender and rehabilitation policy, he said.Among those who surrendered, Rita alias Dodi Sukki (36), a woman who was active as member of the central regional committee (CRC) company number 2 of Maoists, and Rahul Punem (18), a party member within PLGA battalion no. 1 of Maoists, carried a reward of Rs 8 lakh each, he said.Besides, Lekam Lakhma (28) carried a bounty of Rs 3 lakh, while three more cadres carried a reward of Rs 2 lakh each, the official said.advertisementOut of the surrendered cadres, nine belonged to the Kerlapenda village panchayat.With their surrender, the place has become Naxal-free, the official said.As per the Elvad Panchayat Yojna of the state government, the village will be provided an incentive of Rs 1 crore for development works, he said.The scheme has been introduced under the new Chhattisgarh Naxal Surrender/Victim Relief and Rehabilitation Policy-2025.It provides for a sanction of development works of Rs 1 crore for those village panchayats which facilitate in the surrender of Naxalites active in their area and to pass a resolution declaring them as Maoist-free.This is the second such village panchayat in the district to get rid of the Naxal menace after the state government recently introduced the scheme.In April, Badesatti was declared Naxal-free after all 11 lower-rung Naxalites from there surrendered before police.All the Naxalites who surrendered were provided an assistance of Rs 50,000 each, and will be further rehabilitated as per the government's policy, the SP said.Last year, 792 Naxalites surrendered in the state's Bastar region, which comprises seven districts including Sukma.Trending Reel

Two more held in Telangana as tribal leader alleges 60 women are missing
ADILABAD: The Kumurambheem Asifabad police on Sunday arrested two more suspects in a human trafficking case, amid allegations that nearly 60 women have been sold to agents from Madhya Pradesh. According to Circle Inspector Ravinder, the arrested individuals were identified as Bashar Ramesh Goud (A7), a native of Dabla village in Mandsaur district, and Soni Jagadesh (A9), a native of Javari — both from Madhya Pradesh. The horrific incident came to light on Friday after a woman, who had been trafficked to Madhya Pradesh for Rs 1.3 lakh, re-established contact with her parents in Vadgondi village, Asifabad mandal. The traffickers allegedly manipulated her Aadhaar records, inserting the buyer's name as her husband. When the updated Aadhaar card was mailed to her Vadgondi address, her family grew suspicious and reported the matter to the police. Six persons, including a constable, were arrested earlier in the case. Reacting to the arrests, Adivasi Hakkula Porata Samithi (Thudum Debba) district president Kotnak Vijay Kumar warned of large-scale agitations across the state if the government fails to take stringent action against those involved. 'It is deeply concerning that many tribal women have gone missing in recent months and have only been traced to other states through Aadhaar card updates. This shows the state's lack of responsibility toward Adivasis,' he said. He claimed that nearly 60 tribal women have been trafficked to other states in the past six months. 'The accused must be booked under the PD Act and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act,' he said. However, the inspector stated that while investigation is ongoing, no specific figures are currently available regarding the number of missing women reportedly trafficked to MP.

KARIMNAGAR: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Sunday alleged that with its never-ending investigation into the 'irregularities' in the execution of Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme, the Revanth Reddy government is trying to shield BRS bigwigs. Speaking to the media here, the BJP leader claimed that the way the investigation is progressing shows that there is a secret understanding between the ruling Congress and BRS. Holding a copy of the National Dam Safety Authority's report on Kaleshwaram, he said: 'Citing non-availability of water, the KCR government shifted KLIS from Tummidihatti to Medigadda. The Central Water Commission reports say between 1986 and 2013, about 168 tmc of water used to be available at Tummidihatti.' 'If the government had gone ahead with the original plan, the project could have been completed at Tummidihatti with Rs 38,000 crore. But the BRS leaders, for the sake of filling their own pockets, escalated the project to Rs 1.2 lakh crore,' he alleged and demanded that the Revanth government prove its sincerity by seeking a CBI inquiry into the scam. 'Revanth Reddy is now acting like a protective shield of KCR. Despite all the corruption allegations and cases being booked against KCR, the Revanth Reddy government is not arresting him,' he added.

Cyber impostor uses Telangana Home Secretary's DP to extort Rs 50K
HYDERABAD: The Telangana State Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) has registered a case against a cybercriminal for attempting to extort money from a 61-year-old businessman by impersonating Home Secretary Ravi Gupta on WhatsApp. According to the complaint, the victim received a WhatsApp voice call on June 19 from a +92 series number, typically associated with Pakistan. The caller ID displayed the name 'CBI Vikram' with the display picture of Ravi Gupta, the current home secretary of Telangana. The call lasted nearly eight minutes. A woman, claiming to be from cybercrime authorities in Canada, informed the businessman that his daughter had been arrested in a drug-related case. When he requested to speak to her, the caller refused, claiming she was undergoing third-degree interrogation, and even played background sounds of people crying to make the threat seem real. The caller then demanded Rs 50,000 for the daughter's release and shared a PhonePe number for the transfer. 'I asked to speak with my daughter, but she kept threatening me. I almost believed her and thought of sending the money,' the complainant said. He eventually disconnected the call and contacted his daughter in Canada, who confirmed she was safe at home. Realising it was a scam, he reported the incident to the police. A case was registered under Section 66-D of the IT Act and Sections 308(3), 318(4), 319(2) and 338 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
