The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, left Prince William hanging in a relatable mix-up at the annual Garter Day.
After missing last year's event due to cancer treatment, Kate returned to watch the procession of Ladies and Knights of the Garter through Windsor Castle grounds to St George's Chapel.
Following tradition, the King and Queen were at the back of the procession, donned in white plumed hats and dark blue velvet robes, along with other members of the order including William, Princess Anne and Prince Edward. As Kate and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh are not part of the order, they stood on the chapel's Galilee Porch, a traditional spot to view the spectacle, waiting for their husbands to pass by.
As the elderly Military Knights of Windsor led the procession and slowly passed by, the two women seemed amused by something, sharing a laugh.
However, this meant that when William came into view further up the hill, he kept glancing towards his wife who was engrossed in conversation with the Duchess. And when Kate, dressed in a white Self Portrait dress, finally looked up, William was engaged in conversation with Edward walking beside him, resulting in a missed connection.
Nevertheless, it wasn't long before the couple reunited. After the ceremony in the chapel, they shared a carriage ride back to Windsor Castle, reports the Mirror.
The prestigious Order of the Garter is Britain's oldest and highest order of chivalry, with members handpicked by the monarch in recognition of their remarkable contributions to public service and achievement. The Duchess of Gloucester was invested last year, becoming a Royal Lady Companion.
This year's investitures included Air Chief Marshal the Lord Peach, a retired RAF officer and chair of Nato's military committee, Lord Kakkar, a professor of surgery, and renowned composer Lord Lloyd-Webber, who were all installed as Knights.
Notable Knights of the Order include former prime ministers Sir John Major and Sir Tony Blair, as well as Baroness Manningham-Buller, the former head of MI5 and the Order's first female chancellor. One notable absence from the public procession was Prince Andrew, who, despite being a member, has not participated in the procession for the past four years.
However, he was spotted earlier in the day driving to Windsor Castle, where he reportedly attended the annual lunch and investiture behind closed doors.
Membership in the Order of the Garter is exclusive, limited to 24 Knights or Ladies Companion, in addition to the King, the Prince of Wales, and several "supernumerary members", including foreign monarchs such as the King of Spain and the King of the Netherlands. Individuals are selected for this honour based on their outstanding contributions to public office, national life, or personal service to the sovereign.

Princess Charlotte 'hands back' lavish gift worth eye-watering £36,000

Princess Charlotte was reportedly gifted an incredibly lavish present when she was born back in 2015 - but the then-newborn was forced to give the gift back due to strict royal protocols Princess Charlotte, who is third in line to the throne, reportedly had to return an incredibly lavish gift she received as a newborn. The ten year old princess was presented with a £36,000 item when she was born to her parents, Prince William and Princess Kate, in May 2015. ‌ However, due to stringent royal protocols, she was unable to keep this expensive present. The Natural Sapphire Company gifted the costly baby rattle, which was made from 18ct white gold and decorated with diamonds, sapphires, and rubies to create a Union Jack. ‌ The company explained on their website why they decided to splurge for Princess Charlotte's birth. They stated: "When Kate and William were engaged with the iconic blue sapphire ring that once belonged to Princess Diana, our sapphire ring sales rocketed. Women everywhere wanted to be just as fashionable as Kate. Today, we continue to grow as a business and it is with great joy that we celebrate the birth of a new royal. READ MORE: Princess Charlotte's sweet question to Kate Middleton in carriage decoded by lip reader "We're thanking Kate and William for introducing our company to the world, by gifting a custom-designed baby rattle, fit for their Princess. Baby gifts made from precious metals are a tradition dating back to the 18th century. Our luxury rattle, worth $45,000 (£36,000), is made from 18k white gold; lined with sapphires, rubies, and diamonds to produce the Union Jack flag. "Such a unique gift, unlike any they will receive from well wishes around the world, will surely be treasured." Despite presenting their little royal with such a lavish gesture, it seems Princess Charlotte may have never actually handled the opulent rattle. Reports in 2015 suggested it was seriously unlikely Princess Kate would keep the gift. Kensington Palace could not confirm whether the lavish baby toy was received by William and Kate as a general rule, it said, gifts from commercial companies were not accepted. ‌ Even if the young royal didn't keep the baby shaker, she wasn't left empty-handed. Rumour has it that King Charles presented her with a handcrafted willow rattle, coming in at a more down-to-earth £25 a far less hair-raising item for the tot to tote around, and certainly less of a headache for mum and dad. Last month, Princess Charlotte celebrated her tenth birthday and the royal family marked the occasion with a new portrait. ‌ The heartwarming photo was taken by mum Kate on her iPhone earlier this year during a trip to Cumbria and has been released on her parents' social media accounts today to mark her milestone birthday. Charlotte is pictured on a grassy bank with hills in the background and appears to be taking a break during the walk wearing a camouflage jacket by hunting and shooting brand Jack Pyke and a sturdy rucksack. The image of the smiling princess was posted with the words "Happy 10th Birthday Princess Charlotte!" alongside a heart emoji and a picture credit for Kate.

TALK OF THE TOWN: 'All roads lead to Eton' as Royals agree on new school for Prince George

Rumours have been swirling for months about which senior school the Prince and Princess of Wales will choose for young Prince George. Now I hear the Royal couple have at long last agreed on their choice, with a well-placed source telling me 'all roads lead to Eton'. Although William and Kate were spotted looking around a number of top schools, Eton and rival Marlborough College were clear front-runners. Eton – the alma mater of Prince William, where fees are more than £63,000 a year – is conveniently near the family home in Windsor. Meanwhile, Kate is known to have flourished at Marlborough, and the co-ed school would allow Princess Charlotte to join her elder brother, right at Trooping the Colour last week. But now insiders tell me there is a 'smugness' emanating from Eton about a forthcoming announcement. 'It was like, 'I know something and the people at Eton know something, but I'm not going to tell you'. That was after William and Kate visited Eton,' says my source. George, 11, is currently at Lambrook School in Berkshire, as are both his siblings, and is not due to start anywhere new until September 2026. Last week, this newspaper revealed two pupils there allegedly sexually assaulted another on a school trip. The Royal children were not involved, and their parents were not thought to be aware of it. Beauty secrets of Diana's nieces Princess Diana's glamorous nieces Lady Eliza and Lady Amelia Spencer never appear at any occasion looking less than flawless – and it was no different at Royal Ascot last week. What's their beauty secret? The 32-year-old twins have revealed they visit top Harley Street cosmetic specialist Alice Henshaw to get Botox and trendy salmon sperm DNA injections under their eyes, at £1,000 a pop. 'They had a combination of anti-wrinkle injections and polynucleotides,' Alice says. The treatment, as championed by Kim Kardashian, is said to help keep the skin elastic. Beauty is pain! Toff's brimming with good ideas Newly married Georgia Toffolo got fed up debunking racegoers' speculation she might be pregnant. 'If one more person asks me why I'm not drinking then looks at my stomach, I'm going to kick off,' the ex-Made in Chelsea star said. She was at Ascot every day in a variety of hats, from this red fascinator, right, to a practical wide-brimmed number. 'The good thing about that is if I see any of my ex-boyfriends, I can tilt it down!' she joked. I spied Piers Morgan waving and yelling 'Your Majesty! Your Majesty!' in a desperate attempt to get a response from the King as he rode past in his carriage on Friday. Sadly, to no avail. Designer Jasper Conran was being a cautious gambler, only betting £20 a race, despite just inheriting half of his mother Shirley's fortune… Is Kate no longer a Foot Fighter fighter? Actress Kate Hudson was said to be furious with Foo Fighters rocker Dave Grohl after he betrayed his wife – and her best friend – Jordyn Blum by fathering a child outside their marriage. So it could have been very awkward when Hudson, left, crossed paths with the musician and his wife at London's River Cafe. But a fellow diner tells me it was all hugs and kisses. Blum is said to have now forgiven Grohl. Has Hudson buried the hatchet too? Everyone likes to make a fashion statement at Ascot – even the King. On Thursday, he wore a new signet ring for the first time in more than 50 years. He was rarely seen without his old one, given to him by his mother in 1969 and bearing the Prince of Wales's feathers. His new ring features a coat of arms similar to that of the Greek royal family – a nod to Prince Philip's heritage. Former tennis pro Annabel Croft is more used to SW19 than Ascot, but on Friday she had the job of picking the best turned-out horse – a mission she relished. 'I'm all about standards, and standards are dropping everywhere. So it's nice we still have standards here at Ascot and at Wimbledon,' she told me. The winner was Mount Atlas, trained by Andrew Balding, brother of Annabel's BBC sports colleague Clare. Hope there was no favouritism! It seems Harry and Meghan are sluggish with their admin. The couple are late filing tax forms for their non-profit body Archewell for the fourth time, missing the May 15 deadline. Not even a 'delinquency notice' from California's attorney-general made them change their ways.

David Beckham's tribute to Prince William as Brooklyn gets closer to Harry and Meghan

David Beckham paid tribute to the Prince of Wales on his 43rd birthday. Fresh from his good news last week on his long-awaited knighthood, David Beckham is keeping in close contact with his friends in the Royal Family. The football star joined a host of tributes to Prince William as he celebrated his 43rd birthday today (Saturday, June 21). Becks took to his Instagram stories to share two heartfelt posts to congratulate the Prince of Wales. The dad of four shared a snap of him and the royal as they laughed together at an event with a caption: 'Happy Birthday Prince William,' adding a kiss emoji to boot. Beckham then posted another picture, this time of him shaking William's hand, with another 'Happy Birthday' caption followed by a love heart emoji. ‌ Beckham's warm wishes for the prince were extended to wife Kate Middleton as the former Manchester United star tagged the official Prince and Princess of Wales account. ‌ Earlier this month David was finally honoured with a knighthood for his services to sport and charity. His good news came amid the kind of family drama his friend William can relate to, after ongoing reports about a rift between David, Victoria and their eldest son Brooklyn, 26, and wife Nicola Peltz. Tensions were only thought to have been made worse last month when Brooklyn and Nicola, 30, were spotted socialising with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The pair, who have just bought their first permanent home together in Los Angeles, were then reported to have met up with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex at their mansion in Montecito, California. According to Mail Online, the two women engaged in a "deep and meaningful" chat and shared a bond after both being branded 'homewreckers' who 'tear apart" their husbands' families. ‌ The couple's decision to rub shoulders with Harry and Meghan, who are also embroiled in a high-profile feud with the Royal Family, has sparked comparisons between the two couples. David and Victoria have been 'blindsided' by the developing relationship, according to the Sun. As we reported previously, they were thought to have been friends with the Sussexes until a row where Meghan allegedly claimed Victoria had been leaking stories about her to the press. ‌ Meghan accused Victoria of 'indiscretion' - resulting in a tense phone call between Prince Harry and David. In his book Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the war between the Windsors, Tom Bower said: "Harry's instability fed Meghan's fears that friends were leaking stories to the media. In particular, she suspected Victoria Beckham of indiscretion. ‌ "Harry called David Beckham to repeat the accusation. Outraged, Beckham's truthful denials damaged their relationship." The Beckhams have reportedly been struggling to cope with the strained relationship with their eldest son, which was further exacerbated by Brooklyn's decision to skip his father's 50th birthday celebrations, leaving David "devastated".
