TGSRTC hikes bus pass fare by 20 pc
Hyderabad: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has increased the bus pass fare of all the categories by 20 per cent. The revised fares came into effect on Monday.
Following the recent order, the new bus pass rates are – the ordinary bus pass fare has been increased from Rs 1,150 to Rs 1,400, Metro Express pass increased from Rs 1,300 to Rs 1,600 and Metro Deluxe bus fare hiked from Rs 1,450 to Rs 1,800.
According to TGSRTC, the fees for student bus passes have remained unchanged for the past three years. However, due to rising expenses, the Corporation has decided to revise the charges for both student bus passes and monthly bus passes for general passengers, effective from June 9, 2025.
A senior officer at TGSRTC said that the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) updates the toll tax annually. Each time the toll tax is revised, the state government has authorided TGSRTC under the GO 24 to raise the user fees for passengers. Consequently, the Corporation has modified the toll plaza user charge effective from June 9. However, this increase in toll plaza user charges will not apply since there are no toll plazas on the routes within Hyderabad city.
The Corporation will impose an extra Rs 10 per toll plaza on every passenger who passes through the toll plaza. If a passenger does not pass through the toll plaza, there will be no user charge. Meanwhile, daily commuters have expressed concern over the sharp hike in bus pass rates. Lakhs of students and employees rely on TGSRTC buses every day, and many are now urging the state government to reconsider the revised fares.
The passengers urged the government to reconsider the steep hike to avoid hardship for daily travelers.

Coimbatore Corporation drops plan for multiple STPs along Noyyal
The Coimbatore Corporation has revised its earlier proposal to establish multiple sewage treatment plants (STPs) along the Noyyal river bund. Instead, the Corporation now plans to construct a single STP and divert sewage through interception and diversion systems to existing treatment facilities at Ukkadam, Nanjundapuram, and Ondipudur. According to officials, sewage intercepted at various points along the river will be directed into a well and pumped to the existing STPs. This revised approach is expected to reduce the operational and maintenance costs associated with managing multiple smaller units. Approximately 50 million litres per day (MLD) of sewage is proposed to be redirected through this system. In locations where diversion is not feasible, a separate 15 MLD STP is proposed. The total cost of these measures is estimated at ₹100 crore. As part of preparatory work, the Corporation has completed boundary marking of the Noyyal river and installed boundary stones along the 18.5-km stretch within the city limits. Separately, under the State government's Riverfront Development (RFD) project, Coimbatore is among five cities selected for riverfront enhancements. A proposal for ₹100 crore has been submitted for developing the Noyyal bund stretch from Puttuvikki Road to Nanjundapuram Road. Proposed works include construction of bund roads, retaining walls, parks, walking tracks, and recreational spaces to improve access and connectivity. 'We have submitted proposals totalling ₹220 crore for the rejuvenation of the Noyyal,' said Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabakaran. He added that the river, which also carries sewage from several town panchayats and neighbouring local bodies, will see significant improvement once the project is implemented, benefiting all system tanks linked to it.

Thiruvananthapuram Corporation dstributes electric tricycles
The Thiruvananthapuram Corporation on Friday distributed electric tricycles to Haritha Karma Sena workers to collect non-biodegradable waste from various localities and transport it to the collection and treatment centres. Mayor Arya Rajendran flagged off the tricycles at a function held at the Corporation office. The Haritha Karma Sena members were provided one month of training to use the electric tricycles. The project was implemented with the cooperation of the Kerala Development and Innovation Strategy Council (K-DISC), Social Alpha Foundation, University of Toronto India Foundation and Kerala Institute of Local Administration (KILA). The electric tricycles was one of the novel ideas evolved through the innovation challenge held as part of the Innovations in Sustainable Urban Transition programme.

Coimbatore Corporation plans to develop five new scheme roads
The Coimbatore Corporation plans to develop five new scheme roads to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity across various parts of the city. According to Corporation sources, a 2-km stretch within Wards 91 and 92—from the Saradha Silicate Company junction on Palakkad Main Road to Om Sakthi Temple in Kulathupalayam—will be widened from 20 feet to 60 feet. This road is expected to improve access between Kulathupalayam and Kovaipudur. In Ward 89, a 2-km road has been proposed from Shanti Ashram in Kovaipudur to Sundakkamuthur Government Higher Secondary School. Two residential structures along the alignment will be removed, with alternate housing to be arranged for the affected occupants. Another scheme road in the same ward will connect Sundakkamuthur Main Road with the under-construction Western Bypass over a stretch of 2 km. Once completed, it will offer better connectivity from Sundakkamuthur and Kovaipudur to the bypass. In Ward 100, a 3-km road from opposite Rathinam College on Pollachi Main Road to Chettipalayam is planned. This road will provide a direct route to Chettipalayam Road, helping vehicles bypass central city areas. A 4-km road in Ward 92 will connect Kovaipudur to SIDCO Phase-2 in Sundarapuram, allowing vehicles from Madukkarai, Kuniamuthur and surrounding neighbourhoods to avoid congested junctions such as Aathupalam and Kurichi. Officials said that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is under preparation. Funding for the project is expected to be sourced from the local planning authority.
